Not Your Negro

Last night I was mesmerized
by James Baldwin
in a documentary
“I Am Not Your Negro”
in which Baldwin reflects on
Medger, Malcolm, and Martin
who were shot in that order
within six years of each other,
all under age forty,
by guns newer nationalistic leaders of the NRA
would most likely celebrate
for sale and use to hate,
retaliate
for sins of last-class birth.

One picture stands out
among several shocking views.
A Birmingham Alabama protest placard
stating
INTEGRATED SCHOOLS
AND MARRIAGE
IS COMMUNISM.

Both Marx and Engels
would have been surprised to read this,
but perhaps such an obvious display of ignorance
merits no alternative definition,
or even grammar,
having more to do with economics
than monoculturing misuse of supremacist politics.

So allow me
this one much belated try.

Communism is an evolutionary theory
of economic development
assuming competition between those who own
and those who do not
will inevitably lead
to falling aristocracies of hoarded wealth,
regardless of race, color, creed,
gender,
gender preference,
religion,
language,
whether you vote blue,
or red,
or green,
much more black and white not together.

Communitarianism
is a cooperative evolutionary experience
in which co-investment between and among co-owners
leads to optimal quality improvement
of healthy wealth outcomes,
regardless of race,
gender,
creolizing mutually enculturing
as above.

Democratic whole Earth system healthy politics,
both sacred and secular varieties,
support communitarian wealthy co-investing economics,
and vice versa.

But,
neither competitive totalitarian communism
nor cooperative subsidiary ownership
and responsibility
and authority of communitarians
is defined by racial integration,
or libertarianism either, for that possibly unrelated matter,
although these might agree
that continuing freedoms for segregation
and its fossilizing maintenance
prolongs and builds higher walls
between those who have most,
those who have nothing,
and those who worry about joining the latter
by waving placard ignorance
for the former,
too busy hoarding their money
within gated communities
to actually show up,
while quietly financing
our most avid absence of integrity supporters.

Enforcing segregation of races
works about as well as
forced separation of food-chain species,
where eventually everybody starves separately
rather than feeding off
and on
each other
together,
more like an actually healthy community.

What I Want

What do I want out of life?

I want in,
where love still flows
fertile and strong.

I want to live fully on this Earth
with others
who need not ask
what I want
because we all grow in confidence
our answer is shared,
our univocal choice
for becoming integrity’s potential
together.

Do you believe
these different gender identities
and preferences,
those of different ages, places, times, species,
those who look far different,
those who smell worse or better
than you do this day
would answer any differently?

I think not.
I feel not,
for then I would despair
of humanity as integrity’s portion of Earth’s nature
as intrinsic to this glorious organic architecture,
Earth’s healthy grace
becoming polyphonic Promise.

by Eddie S. Glaude, Jr.
but continue reconstructing this title
“Hypocrisy in Only White.”

Because
when I let my memory
look back to my own self-interests in history
as archaeological digging and prying and discovery,
adventure and curiosity
of my internal ecological development,
I reweave back
through still on-going matriarchal lines
that include,
are shared with,
anyone capable of reading
and comprehending
these words of regenerating memory.

Back
to darker
denser
richer genes and memes
of cooperative to still thrive today,
saving competitions for survival moments.

Back to
better to prey together
side by side

This Golden Rule

Home Shopping

I am house shopping
with the required Buyer’s Agent,
also a fairly tolerant friend of mine.

She likes to drive
although not gifted with any sense of direction,
until we hurriedly arrive,
then she beelines into the ubiquitously requisite lock box
as if by smell.

Meanwhile
I visit current occupants,
the trees first and foremost,
then bushes
flowers,
occasionally, to my grateful surprise,
an entire garden,
or even just one vegetable,
a tomato plant,
a humble gang of shaded herbs.

I ask them how it is here
in their home.
I like to taste their soil
for signs of pregnancy
but who knows what contaminants
might fester here.
And my real estate agent,
although a friend,
finds it unseemly
for me to put my mouth around
what I probably won’t buy.

She, too soon,
coaxes me away from my greet and meets
with shade-givers
and grasses,
the edible and ornamental neighbors
of the “big house,”
to explore the darkness of plumbing
and electrical systems,
attics and basements,
kitchens and bathrooms…

Her list of boring things to look at
and too often smell
in a bad way
feels endless
in comparison to too brief introductions
outside,
speaking with,
listening for,
hoping and faithing and loving with
any signs of life
among these large majority of property historians,
co-investors,
cooperative care-givers and receivers.

Eventually,
it becomes our time to aimlessly wander around
in search of yet another lock box
on our life For Sale list.

I say goodbye to the trees
and shrubs,
my occasional edible
and more popular ornamental hosts,
far too soon
to ever learn
if they would choose me
or not
to become with them.

I feel like I do
on election nights
when winners and losers are announced
by statistical projection
before votes are actually counted
from all us co-investors;
and long before registered voters
have listened to trees
still standing in our yards,
on our farms,
in our fertile forests,
to learn their quieter discernment
of which candidates produce more healthy cooperative outcomes
and which more toxic competitions
within these diversities
of Earth’s wealthy nature.
