Natural rules
are also sacred therapies

toward investing in general Welfare

on our one Planet
with our Plants
for mutual loving predation of Yang
and matriarchal-yin beloved prey
victims
our shamed and blamed criminalizations
and marginalizations,
boundary issues of being in wrong places
with non-therapeutic intent
during bad Apple times,
when this most perfect EarthTribe Welfare
encounters climates of pathological risk.

If the proposed public sector administrator
cannot run on a therapeutic record of cooperative ownership
and democratically evolving development
committed to clear health care giving and ecotherapeutic receiving

as against Whatever health care and receiving laws
and restorative justice rules
currently in ego- and eco-therapeutic place,
as being mostly against the Opposition’s Whatever here

for our more perfect generic Welfare

Rights of Justice

When criminal justice
is not also decriminalizing mercy
it is also not social
or even economic justice.

When political power
is not also self with other empowering
then it is also anti-social
and not sustainable economic power.

When sacred lives
are not also profanely natural ubiquitous loves,
then we are also idolatrous
and not ecologically informed
by Earth’s economically regenerative rights
and wrongs.

Boredom.

Basic Attendance,
like everyday naked birthday suit Positive Psychology,
wu wei squeezed in between boredom and bliss.
A “wear your everyday stay-at-home comfy clothes”
way of balancing
Yin’s manic excesses of sensory-cognitive relational internalization
and
Yang’s monocultural excesses of ego-conscious totalitarian supremacy,
each and all very nice in mutual moderation,
but really not sustainable for Business As Cooperatively Usual
ecopolitical
everyday mundane purposes
in extreme dualistic polarities.

Basic Attendance
neither grasps for ego’s supremacist Win
though others Lose happiness,
nor despairs of ego’s ephemeral,
shame-filled absence of efficacy,
lack of interest in whatever Earth offers
as a mix of nutrition and pathology
in too-slow times
of ego’s under-investment in actively imagined love fertilization,
wanting what grows healthiest for right now’s appropriately wealthy cooperative attendance
within and yet toward Earth’s multicultural ecopolitical balancing voices.

Our authority to label behavior with criminal over-yanged intent
might better also include yin’s within responsibilities
for concomitant disabling/ennabling ecopolitical outcomes for all concerned,
for therapeutic intent,
as ecologically harmonic
within/without healthy communication practices
and sometimes ego-disjunctive disciplines.

What is good for goose, also good for gander,
but what is bad for gander
should not also feed the goose.

Therapeutic Justice

When passion plants a permacultural seed,

then justice flourishes a polycultural flower.

 

These two words, permaculture and polyculture, grow holistic significance for our physical, and mental, cultural and spiritual health.

 

Permacultural, as I intend it this morning, refers to Yang’s power for cooperative sustainability of natural systems; power that is universally comprehensive consciousness. Permacultural wisdom is rooted in ancient Golden Rules and Ratios as balanced proportion and right relationship between ego and eco, between self and partners, family, tribe, environment.

 

Polycultural gardens and landscapes,

whether natural-exterior or human natured-interior,

are positive outcomes anticipated,

designed,

beloved by Permaculturalists.

 

The opposite  of  polycultural paradise

we might describe as:

  1. monocultural (not multiculturally therapeutic)
  2. monopolistic and dominating (not mutually cooperative governance, economics, or ecologic)
  3. monochromatic (not polymorphically natured, gened, generated, evolved, not full octave frequencies of color and harmony).

 

Permacultural development is to Yang’s force and power.

as Polycultural outcomes are to Yin’s therapeutic flex and flow.

 

 

And so it is that in this our permacultural parable, we reach back to through all Four Seasons in our UU ReGenesis Community’s polycultural co-passion story.

One winter of discontent, about 1000 years from now, and more, and less, the Universalist Prophets of Justice turned rather coldly upon the Unitarian Mystics of Warm Compassion.

“What happened to Truth, Justice, and the American Independent Way of Freedom; low risk, high yield economic and political life? Why do you overheat all your passion and love and ecological empathy, then serve it wholesale to every suffering, angry, self-medicating, felon and victim of violence and poverty, every socialist and sexual deviant, and those relentless feminist tyrants of chaos and public self-flagellation?”

“You Unitarian Mystics are way over the top, placing too-soft mercy where we need a more tough-love prophetic universal truth voice for justice. As much as you don’t like to hear this, may we most prophetically remind you that justice, like investment, trickles down from entitled power authorities and wealthy depositors from whom more is expected.”

So, as was their practice, these suffering ReGenesis Community Yin-Mystics of too-great compassion went off to hibernate this harsh dark justice, to decompose this permacultural puzzle of the thrival of the economic fittest, and yet also fattest. How could it be that competing weapons of bloated wealth are more powerful than our compassionate Gaia Goddess of ecological “why can’t we all just play cooperatively”  wisdom?  How could an omnipotent benign Unitarian Hostess give birth to litters of runtish parasites without giving them at least a flat playing field for winning more positive outcomes than the dinosaurs?

Having posed their question, the yin-mystics sang their langorous liturgical prayer:

[sung slowly and quietly first verse, building toward passion, second verse]

Twinkle twinkle litte star

how we wonder when you are.

Did you used to be more bright?

Is there still time to touch your light?

Following gratitude for winter’s metamorphic suffering and chronically stressed tough-love teachers,

Grandmother Moon responded with polycultural wisdom of waxing and waning hope for spring’s new life:

 

“When winter’s suffering composts in each person,

compassion grows more inclusive and diverse,

richer, more fertile root systems,

arguing with rather than arguing against,

struggling with rather than struggling against.

 

Composted in the family,

co-passion will optimize wealth of nutritional values for all senses, feelings, awareness;

Composted in the neighborhood and your local cooperative economy,

and political platforms, policies, plans,

co-passion will positively slow-growth multiply;

Organically composted throughout the nations,

cooperative ownership and lifestyles could optimize economic and sociotherapeutic regenerativity,

recreating cooperative Win-Win cultural assumptions

from that old-school pre-millennial Win-Lose competitive economics,

permaculturaling our wealth of nations;

Composting Earth’s natural systemic information,

co-passionate comprehensive consciousness grows Universal Justice.”

According to the individual’s compassion, the individual practices integrative justice;

According to the family’s compassion, the family practices inclusive justice;

According to the Beloved Community’s investment in downstream cooperative compassion,

the community practices ecological justice with and for communities

both upstream and downstream.

How do I know Earth Rights and Wealth of Justice evolve this way?

Earth’s natural flow and function is my compost,

as Her regenerative flow and function is your Elder.”

 

During the subsequent long warm summer days

of maturing gardens and wisdom,

the ReGenesis Community’s Universalist Justice Prophets of the Unraveling Future

and Unitarian Compassion Mystics of Reweaving Cultural Herstory,

stewed this steamy stone soup compost.

 

Each prophet and mystic, Yanger and Yinner, Universalist and Unitarian,

shares his and her struggles with injustice and need,

we sing our segregating sexual, racial, ecological, economic, political, historical and cultural hurt and disappointment,

we dirge our painful risks of exposure,

and anger about harm and violence to and with all Earth’s nature.

including every “my nature matters” message and slogan and sign of impending flying apart, rather than investing in flying together.

We decompose our chronic sub-optimizing economies of impoverishment,

our wants and hopes with literally evaporating faith in anthrocentric future prospects.

We grapple for life fully lived in the future,

at least as well as now.

 

These are gratefully shared

within our families and cooperative residences,

within our diverse ReGenesis committees and projects,

commissions and vocations,

within our PTA education-as-if-life-mattered consumer co-ops,

and our public policy production and vocation industries,

our homeless shelters, prisons, rehab centers, and asylums.

 

Our Autumn Perennial Harvest Report begins, “True justice is no more anthro-centric than ego-centric. No more ego-centric than Left-brain dominant.

 

“Perhaps our permacutural justice opera is sung in a difficult and challenging key, but it cannot be a song if there is no full-octave key accessible within each, and equitably shared by all.”

 

“Compassion seeds suffer and burst, struggle and strain, first within our dark winters,

toward ego-Left and eco-Right balanced root systems,

seeking peace-filling integrity of justice for ourselves,

and then others,

our interdependent co-passionate mentors and messiahs,

and then Earth Herself, with all nature’s species and Tribes,

within all revolving time,

advocate for all generations of life.

 

Universal Justice expands up and out Yang from Unitarian compassion roots,

Yang from Yin,

mutually consuming and productive cycles of becoming fit to thrive together.

as Left to Right hemispheric balance,

as West to Eastern cultural wisdom,

as space from time’s unfolding,

rhythm from rhyme’s iconic order,

rational logic from eco-logically informed systemic function,

reconnecting wisdom.

 

Left from Right

as regathering nature from regifting Elder spirits,

as belonging grows from longing to reconnect,

as July’s bloom emerges from January’s gloom.

 

 

“Communication of justice,

to be communication at all,

must be a cooperative enterprise;

not a competitively punishing exercise in dominatrix.

 

Information about rights and wrongs,

to be informing,

to be formational at all,

to have integrity,

to become integrative,

Unitarian,

must be a transaction between cooperative subjects with a shared nutritional growth objective.

 

Life, to be fully lived,

and not decadent, diseased, dissonantly restrained, victimizing and violent,

to avoid rushing madly toward flat-line economic segregating death

while still breathing bad air

and beating bad blood;

This polycultural kinda “beloved” justice emerges from cooperative co-passionate vocations

with and for and of all Earth’s Tribes, species, trees and forests and oceans.

Polycultural justice equivalently loves all Earth’s mutually grateful, resonant, seasons and generations,

including summer’s heated gratitude for the suffering sadness of winter,

Polycultural justice invites all Earth’s Past and Future Redeemer Regenerations to Universally Permacultural Life.”

ReGenesis Project

It does appear we are all agreed that Earth and all inhabitants thereof are in a critical climatic and/or cultural transition. 
Within this transition, I see both degenerative and regenerative trends. These seem to ecologically and economically align along competitive v. cooperative optimization strategies, as these might appear in Systems Theory, Information Processing Theory and Praxis, and Ecological Sciences including Evolutionary Theories within NeuroSciences, Theoretical Physics, Positive Psychology, Multisystemic and Integral Therapy, Game Theory, and Mathematics–Group Theory.
Our optimal diapraxis as a Species would notice our currently emerging positive deviant paradigms; subcultures such as New Economics, cooperative politics, cooperative healthcare, cooperative vocations, intentional cooperative communities, cooperative residences, green-culture, Permaculture, Occupier, Gaia University, Food and Economic and Climate, Cultural, Earth Justice Advocacy and Investment/Divestment Policy Design.
It seems prudent to understand these shared core values as richly therapeutic seeds to plant strategically, within our more persistently dissonant and nihilistic, perhaps increasingly autistic-trending, culture.
Current pathological cultural, political, and economic trends:
  • continue under-investing in long-term lowest risk cooperative investments,
  • actively resist positive pro-life momentum, thereby turning away from Positive Deviant stories [because they are too dissonant, distant, frightening, dark, dismal to be believed while continuing to rest comfortably at night about our great-grand-children’s future prospects] with themes like Loss of Living Populations Diversity, trending toward flat-line, and, my personal favorite, Yes, Martha, The Sky Really is Failing.
So, we might respond to cooperatively positive opportunities presented by this Transitional Point/Era and Generation by mentoring cooperative investment in each other and those around us, culturally, politically, and economically.
And, we might sing and dance, share, design, develop, grow, fertilize, feed, harvest, regenerate more positive and polycultured narratives and gaming strategies within ourselves, our families, our communities, our ecosystems, cousin species, nations, and Earth.
A possible name that has been on my mind is ReGenesis Project.
Euler argued that our shared cognitive metrics evolve out of the primal dust of function, that a vector, a point, functions as a primal crossroad of two or more lines. In a tree’s primal architecture, and according to Julian Jaynes’ view of the relationship between our Left and Right hemispheres, the lower reverse-hierarchical root system provides the neural nutrients for what we productively deduce in our “above-ground” branches, and leaves, and flowers, pollinating regenerative potential for sustaining future generations.
 
I seem to be sitting firmly on a surf’s edge fence. On one side I am exhausted and want to retire to build a small eco-balanced forested habitat for myself and my diversely challenged, medically complex family, where we can grow each other’s therapy, as removed as feasible from competitive social and economic pathologies indigenous to weakened and limp ecological rationality within our not-so-humane natural culture.
 
On the other hand, I feel inspired to find out if NCDD, Tellus Institute, Gaia University, Work That Reconnects, Naropa University, BigBrothers-BigSisters, Kittering, Schumacher Foundation, Americorps/VISTA, Salvation Army, and/or the burgeoning U.S. cooperative network of technical assistance and loan providers might like to combine their wisdom in a council platform called Interhelp.com, that might allow us to prepare an interactive cooperative investment plan, including a mutual assets report and expense budget, to help reforest our habitat with a rich polycultural global ecosystem of diversely composted wealth for sustaining life with mutual gratitude, with grassroots leadership from those who are most marginalized, and at greatest risk of living without satisfactory fulfillment.
 
This surf’s edge fence sitting feels co-respondent to this Winter Solstice season. Maybe that’s why I feel inclined to hibernate my way through this particular crossroad.

Regenerative Systems indigenously share a Positive Teleological strategic assumption, which could also be framed as Reverse-Positive Tree-ological.

An obstacle, regarding hierarchical binary and ecological analogical tree design, to producing Win-Win cooperative strategic incentives, could be resolved by imaging the tree’s root system, rather than the above-ground branches and production end of a business that starts as the increasingly diastolically condensing of nutrients from diverse individual root “strings” if you will.

At the lowest level of our digital universal population are all the individual people, or individual households, which might be better if we want this game to include positive family values, which might include the value of working together so that everybody in the family feels heard, understood, and included.

At the next level might be neighborhoods or smaller community deliberation processes which cannot achieve at least (0)-sum positive/negative ecological value balance until every constituent household has achieved at least (0)-sum positive/negative ecological value balance.

And so it goes, to the level of larger urban area or bioregion, also not able to “Win” (0)-sum positive/negative ecological value balance until each constituent community has done so.

We might next have a letter for nations, and then for all nations, no one of which will ever achieve (0)-sum positive/negative ecological nutrient well-being value balance until every nation has done so.

Competitive, egocentric characters and corporations have no place to hide in this strategy; we will all recognize each other in our desire to do our part to help us win, together.

“Ecological” refers both to economic and natural-systemic environmental “ground of all being” positive teleological values.

“Teleological values” are those that hold together Original Meaning of global historic evolution, ethologically translated through the multisystemic analogies of future purpose, Buckminster Fuller’s (0) Core Vector Synergetics, David Bohms’ Implicating Physical Frequency Order, Gregori Perelman’s (and friends) (0) soul universal theorem in Group Theory.

In other words, we tend to find our therapeutic future abundance by minimizing pathological cultural trends; which I think is probably true of any good conversation at any level of this reverse-hierarchical Win-Win Tree Game we are already playing through Co-Intelligence found in the plasmatic ground of our Being.

Reducing Poverty by Increasing Sustainability and Justice

There are three human-species level “scars” resulting from the de-valuation of women, intrinsic to the development of science as deductive specialization, industrialization, imperialism, and capitalism:

Scar 1: The de-valuation and displacement of aboriginal communities, discounted as un-civilized.  The cultural normalization of “empire-building” was at the cost of active disdain for women-led internal civic cultures in organically balanced communities.

Scar 2: Slavery was, and remains, the male-dominated ownership of de-valued aboriginal and organically-based human communities, later reduced to individual victims, usually women, disrupted by force and used as fuel for commerce.

Scar 3: The emergence of post-industrialized “child welfare” systems de-valued the relationship between our species’ nurturers and their children. The taken-by-force disruption of families is a recent artifact of so-called “civilized” societies and an act so blind to the intrinsic value of the caregiver/child relationship that it is unknown within healthy tribal communities.

These three “Species Scars” are driving forces to what David Korten and others call “The Great Turning.”

We are an industrializing species that has de-valued nurturing and care-giving to such an extreme imbalance that we actually call the deliberate disruption of dysfunctional families “child welfare;” although this is currently trending toward child “well-being.”  Mounting scientific evidence, including neurological, cognitive, learning theory, psychological, sociological, and economic, reveal that severing the primary caregiver/child attachment bond is an injustice, usually to women, and always to children, in every industrialized society on the planet. Disrupting families is intrinsically harmful to both children and primary caregivers with life-long sub-optimization repercussions for themselves, and often for those around them.  In the U.S., and in Connecticut, more specifically, we are seeing a rapid transition from a short-term outcome policy monopoly, the “child welfare” system, to a long- and short-term outcome paradigm, the child well-being system (https://www.childwelfare.gov/well-being/).

The core of child well-being policy, including the recruitment and training of care-providers for special needs kids, would optimize wellness outcomes by giving consistent priority to re-investing in the primordial relationships within families, regardless of dysfunction/disabilities. In this policy context, the relationships of greatest consideration are those between caregiver and children. Nurturing caregiver/child relationships is essential bedrock for optimizing wellness outcomes. This suggests moving in the direction of “zero-tolerance” for the disruption of families. What might this look like?

When neglect/abuse is confirmed, the child-specific training and resources that are currently invested in recruiting alternative caregivers would, instead, be invested within the family, without disruption. Where criminal intent is a factor, well-trained mentors would be introduced into the family environment, beginning with emergency support and sustained through the crisis, gradually withdrawing in-home support as wellness develops and becomes self-sustaining.  This form of intervention is largely presaged by the evidence-based “Homebuilders” program (http://www.cebc4cw.org/program/homebuilders/).

The large majority of traumatizing disruptions pertaining to the challenges of raising kids, especially special needs kids, are economically related. That is, if the same level of public-dollar support for at-risk/neglected children were available to the primary caregivers (often bio-parents, but not always), perhaps as administered by a Parent Mentor on a transitional basis, remaining needs could be addressed through family skills-training. “Child-specific” training is already standard operating procedure for foster care providers committing to a special needs child. Under the scenario of children remaining with their currently dysfunctional parents, any child-specific training that a Parent Mentor would require would be simultaneously delivered to the bio-parents, as a transitional team.

Community-based Family Intervention Therapy:  Creating Sustainable Well-Being Community Project Teams

Part of any dysfunctional family intervention plan could include their joining, or starting, a multi-generational “sustainable well-being community” Project Team, composed of family, friends, neighbors, but also seeded to assure cohesive potential and the development of inclusively effective communication skills. Advantages are particularly acute for families that include special needs kids. With 20% of our kids now having mental health issues, with a trend that projects as few as 60% of our kids graduating from high school, with the doubling of High-Functioning Autistic Spectrum and Attention Deficit in recent years, perhaps optimized family therapy design should begin operating under the reasoned assumption that all kids are at-risk, and the entire generation under 18 might best be thought of as a Transitional Generation.  The end of the fossil-fuel economic base, with concomitant environmental challenges, and the burgeoning information-based economy are highly relevant to projects aspiring to create well-being environments WITH young people, and future generations after them.

Multi-generational Project Teams could have self-advocacy, STEM, environmental, financial literacy, planning skills, budgeting, nutrition, and other potential well-being outcomes at the individual, family, and community levels.

Enhanced stability and reduced volatility optimally improve long-term academic, social, health, and economic prospects.  Regardless of the category of caregiver services delivered, it is the enhancement of affectively confluent living and learning environments that most efficaciously improves long-term outcomes.  This has been demonstrated through empirical studies at Yale University (see especially Aaron Antonovsky, salutogenetic effect in the medical sociology literature); Harvard University (see especially Shawn Achor, Positive Psychology in their Psychology Department); and the primary efficiency of retaining richly-confluent (low stress) inductive triggers in the affective neural network to optimize learning in the Universal Design for Learning (UDL, www.cast.org).

For an interesting and practical synergetic model to help achieve long-term sustainable outcomes for at-risk kids and families, with inclusive and emergent benefits for local community and bio-regional systems, see www.socialcommunicationfoundation.org.

As a program development Thought Experiment, imagine that Connecticut had , in addition to the current menu of excellent child well-being programs and services, state-wide outcomes you might realistically hope for from a youth-led “Well-being Development Corp.”  This Development Corp might be associated with the Department of Children and Families, an existing state-wide DCF contractor, or child advocate office, as an affiliated partnership, with its own Advisory Board, to include at least 50% High Functioning Socially Challenged young people, up to age 30.  The Development Corp’s responsibility is to resource Sustainable Well-being Community Project Teams, as outlined above, but also as volunteer sprouts.

For example, within the past three months I have talked informally to individuals, ages 11 to 60, interested in well-being community projects including converting suburban/urban commercial and residential acreage to organic edible and ornamental garden landscapes, saturating a metropolitan region with murals covering cinder-block exteriors, developing a High-Functioning Challenged Communicator STEM Learning Center, designing gaming apps for edible landscape and mural design, creating an on-line gaming/networking state-wide hub for connecting well-being community projects into a synergetic whole.   “Resourcing” Well-being Community Project Teams would include:

Short-term therapeutic facilitation for building inclusive project teams.  Facilitators would be skilled in effective communication across the great socially-challenged v. socially-integrated boundary.  This is an essential first step to optimize a mutual learning group (and family) culture.

  • environmental, economic, health, education, and family well-being support systems.

Financial Implications

Short-term Revenue Prospects:

Any list of prospects cannot be both concise and exhaustive.  There are many potential in-state and national first-tier prospects:  youth , workforce, and economic development; socially challenged technological and other therapeutic interventions; child, family, community well-being; and STEM learning facilitation.  Smaller, and with long-term trends predicted to go downward, revenue potential comes from the in-state private sector.  Larger, and more resilient, funding prospects are national, including private and public sectors.  Looking only at the national public sector, germane grant programs are easily, even somewhat redundantly, found with the National Science Foundation, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Department of Education, and the Department of Housing and Urban Development.  Again, this list is not intended to be inclusive, although the National Science Foundation may be construed to include the others mentioned, and several more.

Long-term Revenue Prospects:

Re-investing in the primary caregiver/child relationship could re-direct dollars from the following federal and state expenditures, with a slow, long-term trend of decreasing cash outlay, in contrast to the current faster trend upward:

Current systems experiments with Medicaid and CHIP, inspired by prevention and well-being outcome improvement (e.g. Health Care Round Two Innovation Grants), could lead to a much more long-term perspective on the prudent use of insurance reimbursement.

School nurse positions could be paid through CHIP/ Medicaid/private insurance to function as the health and wellness case manager for not only the children in the school, but for their family units as well.

Insurance paid school-based nursing could include supervision of primary caregivers choosing to provide their own in-home health care to their medically complex and special needs dependents.  To illustrate, instead of paying $30/hour for a nurse to monitor/medicate my son for 40 hours/week, Medicaid could pay me $12/hour for 40 hours to monitor/medicate my son, with monthly on-site supervision through the school nurse Medical Home service.  Both short- and long-term health outcomes optimize when primary caregivers choose to provide their own medically-supervised family prevention and maintenance care.  For lower-income caregivers, the option of $12/hour for self-care, rather than bringing in a home health-care aide, could make it economically feasible to choose the self-care option.  Further, it would be interesting to know how many home health-care aides are leaving their own medically complex dependents, young and old, to take care of other people’s dependents, only because the current home-care services discriminate against self-provider care.

Medicaid/CHIP/private insurance reimbursement to the agencies of Social Workers serving at-risk kids, needing tangible goods for their well-being, such as school uniforms, backpacks, school supplies, summer/after-school enrichment, beds, toiletries; all on a last-resort basis.  Covenant to Care for Children’s 26 years of experience with providing these goods through at-risk kids’ Social Workers (in child welfare, school, hospital, community-based agencies) amply demonstrates that guaranteeing every child, at all times, what is needed for well-being and full development costs pennies on the long-term dollar, even when outcomes are compared only at the individual level (omitting spin-off values at the family, community, social, and global levels).

For families that choose homeschooling, sharing savings to the school system with the family would reduce overall costs of public education, environmental costs for transportation and building large, burgeoning school structures.  Homeschooling also improves learning outcomes, and perhaps long-term resiliency, for the entire family.  With fingertip access to a wealth of information and cultural expression from across the planet and universe unsurpassed by the best universities in the world twenty-five years ago, and the rich social/cultural development of homeschooling networks,  the arguments against this huge financial savings become more anemic with each passing month.  At least for lower-income caregivers, shared savings to the school system are a re-investment in a household economy that will promote higher well-being and learning for the entire family unit.

Extensive research points to the enormous cost, and lack of wellness, resulting from the break-up of caregiver/child relationships. When neglect/abuse is confirmed, the child-specific training and resources that are currently invested in recruiting alternative caregivers would, instead, be invested within the family, without disruption.  To ensure, and optimize, the well-being of vulnerable children and families requires a system adaptation that does not itself cause negative experiences that “color how future experiences are understood” (from the DHHS Request for Proposals, p. 2, Diligent Recruitment of Families for Children in the Foster Care System).  Programs like Homebuilders, and many more well-being preservation program designs, if fully optimized over the long-term, are predicted to result in more temporary crisis-intensive expenses rather than long-term subsidies.  Further, long-term special needs support would more cost-effectively benefit high-risk families, rather than a foster-care provider.

Diligent efforts to bring limited child welfare resources into high-risk families, without disruption, also responds to civil rights and justice concerns.  The Multi-Ethnic Placement Act (MEPA) explicitly prohibits a discriminatory fee structure.  The existing foster care recruitment paradigm provides remuneration that is made available to any qualifying adult except the current caregivers, despite any evidence that this same level of remuneration would significantly change the well-being potential for the intact family. This looks like a class action suit waiting to happen, and legal wrangling has demonstrated a profound inability to optimize long-term sustainable well-being outcomes.  It is to be avoided, especially when there is a cost-effective alternative immediately at hand.

Communication and Well-being System Design

This all reminds me more than just a little bit of Robert Norton and David Brenders enthymematic perspective, in Communication & Consequences:  Laws of Interaction, 1996, Lawrence Erlbaum Associates.  Norton was my Honors Thesis Advisor at the University of Michigan, now happily and privately consulting in Australia.  Sometimes when I listen to Catherine Hogan talk about her “Inclusion Teaming” process, I wonder what would happen if every kid grew up in a family with adults that learned, and practiced, the principles of enthymematic communication.  Perhaps my sustainable well-being community would have already arrived, wherever I choose to live.
