Succeeding Days

How old was I
when each succeeding year
each successive year
became each falling year,
each failing year?

How old was I
when each year fell away
as did each month and week and day,
both succeeding less
and failing more
resigned to fade out play?

How old is just right maturity
of days falling off
away?

My calendar begins with clearly given rebirth dates,
succeeds toward organic dusk conclusions
on a day and week and month
within a year not yet quite fully numbered
and yet already fading toward some numeric memory
for those who remain succeeding
more than failing
through days and nights of fears
and faith
our wins outweigh these latticed losses.

A Declaration of Interdependence for Our Times

Months ago, I put up my last post, on the topic What are we for? In the interim, there have been ample new opportunities to find yet more things to be against. Attacks on access to healthcare. Arrests and deportations of immigrants. Military engagements abroad of questionable value and wisdom. Dramatic reversals of the country’s longstanding commitment to provide for a cleaner and healthier environment. Serious suspicions that the electoral process itself was materially influenced by foreign agents working in concert with people closely connected to Mr. Trump. In an epoch when the shallowness of the consensus around common values has become evident and when there is no longer broadly shared understanding about what may be taken as true, it is no surprise that currents of fear, outrage and despair are running strong. ReCreating MaryJuanita

I noticed that one of the Kennedy patriarchs,
probably a Joseph or John or Ted
or Tim or Matthew or Mark or Luke,
Why do they all begin to look and sound the same to me?
Anyway, one of these informed and educated and good guys
responded to decriminalizing ingestion of THC,
cautioning us regarding potential public health hazards.

While I share some of these bleary and yet specific concerns,
Mr. Kennedy and I do seem to view these potential pathological influences
through two quite different frames of reference.

He approaches dangers of THC influence
in contrast to a population that would otherwise presumably ingest
organic goat’s milk and wild honey.

I see the prospects for a THC cooperative addicted society
in pleasant contrast
to our current alcohol degenerative indigestion
addicted to bipolar competing ecopolitical disculturation.

From a public health perspective,
given only a choice between THC or alcohol decriminalization,
the evidence of history appears to vote
for the more regenerative THC.

Now,
if we could addict honey bees to THC pollen,
and goats to voraciously forage on marijuana fibers,
and we became the land of goat milk and THC honey;
that, I suppose,
would be so much more
our healthier wealth of opportunity.

Vistas of Love

When I imagine my iconic vistas of love,
I watch a sunset
red and yellow,
purple and pink,
bruised lavendar and darkening grey
until pointing jagged mountain peaks
turn to black understoried landscape
plunging against gravity
toward slowly emerging sea
of glittering stars
strobeless yet twinkling pinpoints
of light’s long poignant memories.

When I imagine this vista
I also see
through my velvet brown-skinned manchild’s deep autumnal eyes
starting back and forth,
side to side,
without capacity or need for language
to absorb Earth’s dusky light and pine-soaked scent
turning up toward dancing brights,
’til dawn’s epiphany of grey,
then nearly violent, love.

When I imagine iconic eros vistas
and feel internal agape
conjoining philos,
appearing nowhere
except together,
like Yang strong bright
and Yin flow night.

What if we were song,
sacred litany?

What if,
What if we were dance,
gracefilled choreography?

What if we were energy,

Naked trees
joining navels
from native mother to nurture mother
down through speciating generations

What if we became tireless time,
reorganizing space?
Irreplaceable climates
within humid organic history.

I am not your place

with authority to displace
or responsibility to replace.
I am not my face.

We are designed to fall apart,
even with unlikely careful wear.
So what?
No excuse to surrender
to daily worn out deaths.
Well excused to rise this day
ready for each dusk
without anticipation

It’s just us
