Two Cultural Feet

David Holmgren
a seminal PermaCultural Designer,
if there ever has become one,
suggests most people throughout Earth
in this age of globally interdependent communication
feel we have one foot planted
in our original local community/family culture,
and the other foot planted in a more comprehensively dominant
economic and political and sociological culture;
but also maybe both feet together co-arise
in our global ecological enculturation.

More of a mindbody hop
than a cognitive one-legged skip.

I grew to the 18-year mark of emancipation
in a conservative fundamentalist
Republican
Michigan family farm industrializing
mid-to-later 1900s
economic and political and sociological
and ecological and anthropological
and psychological and genderological
and extended family farm as forestological
and embryonic wombological culture
both internally adopted
and externally adapting
by trying on my daily
and nightly
enculturations.

As a child
I could not distinguish between internalized enculturation
and external dominant LeftBrain USA-WhiteEnglishOnly culture
because I felt no incipient dissonance
between these two
external Left
and internal Right,
secular ecopolitical and socio-psychological sacred
hemispheres of footedness,
groundedness,
ego/eco-centeredness.

Then I noticed
that the fantasy of partnering with socio-psychological masculinity
rather than ecopolitical femininity–however lovely–
was mesmerizing,
hypnotic,
wondrously awesome,
happiness and Aquarian beauty and bilaterally sexy
and internally right
yet very much externally wrong.

So which was my true local culture
with integrity
and safety
and love
and faith
and trust,
and which was my dominant MidWest
EnglishOnly
White Straight Male Dominant
extending patriarchal farm businessological culture?

It has taken many years
of self-inflicted therapy
to answer that question Both Left-and-Right
Win/Win polypathically healthy,
rather than Either Left-or-Right
Lose short-term to LoseLess long-term pathologically.

Today,
since the 9/11 of 2016,
when nearly half of U.S. voters
chose to vote for our own domestic terrorism
inflicted against both promised rich
and threatened poor,
both hateful and fearful AlienElitist plutocrats
and hated and feared non-fundamentalist
non-white
non-straight
non-male
non-competitive
non-monoculturing
not-sufficiently-domesticated and under-invested
cooperative Left in solidarity with Right Brained democrats,

It is also true,
an alternative majority fact,
if you will,
that slightly over half did NOT vote
to internalize a domestic version
of global fundamentalist terrorism,
against the greater powers
of polypathic Left/Right bilateral love,
against the principles of Zero-Sum WinWin ecopolitical integrity,
from which my own Left-Right extending farm-as-global-forest ecology
was originally spawned
in patriarchal-matriarchal harmony
Yang with Yin, not dissonantly against
Left-RightBrain Ego/Eco inductive bilateral co-intelligence,

Without, so far as I recall,
quite so much RightFooted stomping
and marching
in military-industrialized
Big RedBook of ViolentCapitalism Squares,
where persuasive enculturation begins
at the end of the longest and fattest gun.

Political Short-Circuits

A problem with fundamentalist short-circuits
is their Left-dominant tendencies
over RightBrain polypathic-polyphonic resonant feelings.

Fundamentalism shrinks Left-RightBrain Both-And
WinWin ecopolitical thinking,
strategizing,
democratizing,
domesticating,
creolizing.

For example,
imagine your nationalistic domestic policies
to pit those who victoriously have
against marginalized and criminalized lepers,
parasites, really,
in your not-so-humble,
vaguely fascist,
opinion,
are not going so well
as you might have Republican conservationally predicted.

You need something
you know everyone, of importance, will champion,
so you point out that transgenderal confusions
are not appropriate to military-industrial’s bottom-line
compete unto death
monoculturing focus.

Transgenders must, then, be an unnecessary economic liability
and political loyalty risk
because they aren’t decisively anything fundamentally patriotic,
much less appropriately straight patriarchal.

Unfortunately,
for the fundamentalist Either-Or nonthinker,
without richly constant and diverse healthy relationships
with any ecopolitically multicultural depth,
what might sound like a political big win
over little inconsequential losers,
breaks down with actual one-on-one experience.

The anti-transgender agenda
breaks down because too many sergeants
and corporals,
lieutenants leaking counter-factuals
to admiring admirals
and generalist generals
about the long history
of incredibly excellent military-industrialized service
individual transgender personnel
in the thousands
have delivered in the past,
unlike a dysfunctional bicameral Congress
and a sociopathological White House.

Transgender co-intelligence
tends to understand
cooperative media economies
and political persuasion.
That’s a bicameral nest of honey bees
you don’t want to fundamentalistically mess with,
because they will make you look politically stupid
and economically bereft of moral integrity.

It’s rather like believing health-assurance climates
of care-receiving
and for mutual healthcare-giving
is just a Democratic women’s eco-survival issue
when your own nationalistic patriarchal prostate
is growing in a cancerous viral,
self-imploding,
wu-wei.

Global HealthCare Standards

Health care standards
are climate care constants
and resilient variables.

Health care and receiving constants
across cultures and diverse species
of plant and animal,
and perhaps even mineral, lifespans,
each and all declare
mentoring mutual health is positive,

Yang and bilateral, or even multilateral, Yin,
squared and cubed
and fractal and octaves
of resilient variable sounds
and light,
space and changing interdependent times.

And absence of Golden Rule
mutual health wealth resilience,

So,
if health care and receiving
is ecopolitically good for One,
it is therefore resiliently good for All,
regardless of age,

animal or plant lifespans

health care constant development
across resilient multigenerations.

Ultimately,
health care systems,
like climate care systems
and cooperative networks,
from and form single nondual co-arising payer systems
of regenerative cooperation,
interdependently resilient
EarthTribe Elder co-investors
in pay-wealth-forward priorities
of WinWin 0-sum principles
like Gaia Hypotheses
and WinWin Game Theories
cooperating in bilateral BiCameral Minds
with HealthCare and Receiving
mutually loving interdependent Bodies.

Stable Diversity

Nature loves diversity
just as air abhors a vacuum.

Stability lives in staged apposition with diversity
as Yang predicts Yin,
as time moving stably forward
predicts time imagined more diversely
as the history of regeneratively slow-evolving Earth.

Stability, without conjoining diversity,
is a highly subjective attribution
when blanketed across a lifespan,
when covering a generation of interdependent lifespans,
even when defining a genetically stable species
across many re-stabilizing generations.

What is stable within a life
is what is reliably conserved,
like a heart beat,
and breathing,
digesting and eliminating,
consumer and producer functions,
economic and political forms of conserving balance,
cooperative survival of the best interdependence
more than competitive Win/Lose frictions,
or all thoughts and feelings of stability
disappear.

Conserving stability over a lifetime
is a highly subjective attribution,
perhaps too broad and sweeping,
too global and universal
too totalitarian
too elitist biased
to be more microscopically accurate
across any one lifespan.

For example,
the growth rate of an infant
could not be stably conserved
throughout an eight-decade human life span,
nor could the constant two-year old questions, Why?
conserve stability
in a four-decade middle-age climate
of chronic crisis
about half-empty ecopolitical ego-stability.

Adolescent adventures in gender-related competitions
over multigenerational cooperations
could not stably conserve
a marriage
or a nation
or a planet
across a regenerative trans-speciating lifespan
of co-domesticating creolization,
democratization of shared wisdom,
health,
wealth.

I wonder if conserving stability
of bilateral mind,
and centering on stability with diversity body
more likely matriarchal than patriarchal,
oriented toward health and safety
across eight positive WinWin regenerations,
at eight-decades of humane life,
facing immanent individual ego-death,
could already be conservatively stabilizing
in the bicameral mindbody
of an infant child,
or even a stuck in adolescent competitions
patriarchal-dominant
nation?

Corn and Bean and Squash diversity

reducing competitive domesticating relationships
to favor cooperative democratizing trinities,
of Spirit and Body and Bilateral Flowing UnSquashed Minds.

These corny holonic domesticating resources
enjoy differentiated cultural climates,
Diverse partners prevailing
through multicultural nutritional landscapes
up and out,
down-rooting and inward feeding feeling
as outward bleeding
into each Other’s Common-Space
and side-by-side solidarity reforesting times.

People of the Corn
and beans and squash,
co-domesticating temporal WinWin differentiations,
preoccupying Earth’s global climate
in different times of day and night,
months and years,
transgenerational eras and stages
of mutual democratization
into trust
bean-sprouting
within interdependent pumpkin patches.

People of the Corn
invite diverse beanish vertical needs
and polypathic squashy tendril outputs
in different revolving stages
of our mutual domestication,
integrity empowered
through deep nutritional gardens
and forests of time,
like climates of Earth,
organically democratizing solidarity.

People of sacred wild Cornucopias
found ourselves politically atoned
through competing to survive
in Earth’s stroking strumming climates

I’m not sure
if nature’s spiritual voices,
if Earth’s cultural songs and dances,
are merely subjectively interesting
nutritional creolizing metaphors,

Then
man domesticated with woman,
and only stupidly against.

When domestication is negative,
it pits a dipolarity against itself,
like a body against a bitchy mind,
a Yang pitbull of LeftBrain dominance,
enslavement,
violent commodification of domesticity as oppression,
political, and sometimes biological, rape,
terrorism,
denialism of our other cooperative half,
nihilism,
chaos,
entropy winding down Earth’s dis-incarnate
thoroughly domesticated
absence of accessible wilderness energy.

Which brings us back to historic domestication,
stage two,
domestication of energy,
fire,
nutrition,
flow of water,
passive heat radiance of light,
plants and animals, for agricultural revolutionary domestication,
electricity and oil and gas and coal,
for industrial revolutionary domestication of energy.

Domestication with,
as opposed to against,
can only unfold for both short-term
and long-term multigenerational productive success,
as an initial love cooperation,
a mutual nutritional promising hunt and gathering
of vulnerability and trust-building,
necessary for a long-term extended family domestic garden,
but also for a national domestic ecopolitical reforestation
of regenerative continental models
and ecotherapeutic health-maps,
mutually cooperative responsiveness,
solidarity of polypathic responsibility
to authoritatively reweave narrow ethical and aesthetic ecological threading co-relational ways
of domesticating polycultural balance,

To absorb domestication’s economic and political and psychological values
when nondual co-arising,
and disvalue when dualistic Yang and Yin compete
oppose
deny WinLose suboptimizing suppression
into self-and-other domestication
when appositional WinWin enlightenment with flow
into mutual healthy wildness
of Earth’s primal cooperatively peaceful revolutions
is slow and steady growth
ours for positive value
Earth care-giving as also care-receiving
dipolar domestication of love climates
our Yinmind-Yangbody landscaped selves.

An individual ego’s superego nature
and a national culture’s domestic eco-natured polypathic forest
are equally concerned with intergenerational diversity flow
of dipolar trusting deductive-inductive truths,
of domesticated wildness,
and equally concerned with economic power
and co-equally concerned with Yang/Yin political productivity.

Educators,
and parents,
and therefore politically powerful leaders,
of environmental Earth-logical sciences and arts,
and natural-spiritual religious and secular enculturing history
too often reinforce Yang monoculturing obsessions
with prevailing fast-growth measures of powerful domestic productivity,
while ignoring ecologically deep domesticating-creolizing reforestation

Domestication,
