Cooperative Therapeutic Analysis

I’m sure it was Rob Brezsny, again,
who first pointed out to me
that Western psychoanalysts give priority to pathologies within family relationships,
while Eastern analysts, more embedded in philosophies of interdependence,
begin with what nurturing health dynamics we can find
within those same family relationships,
for it is these,
after all,
that we want to bring forward into our love development,
so we need not worry so much,
so we might in fact de-fuse the ballistics of repressive anger management,
suppression of fears about our inevitably mortal failures
with a healthier positive ecopolitical consciousness
of cooperative evolutionary natural norms and outcomes.

Family and more extended environmental paranoia pathologies
are the warp weaving through our mutually co-arising pronoia norms
of a healthy individual, family, and a functioning/dysfunctional society
enculturing future generations in how to deep learn from Earth’s goods
and deep learn what climate and landscape and relational pathologies
teach us about when and where healthy economics
negatively deviated from optimally wealthy,
multiculturally regenerative,
ecologics,
our enculturation of sacred ecopolitical
cooperatively interdependent
therapeutic interelationships,
evolving revolutionarily away from overly competitive LeftBrain dominant
Business As Usual as if this were always negative,
rather than, more helpfully, notnot yet positively balanced
toward a more multiculturally sustainable family, individual, and global eco/bio/geosystem.

Evolutionary acclimation of a species,
of a society,
of a family,
of an individual,
proclaims our interdependent historical enculturation.
Comprehensive pronoia analysis already recognizes
all living nature’s history witnesses and records internally metaphysical climates,
sensory feelings,
and physical exterior landscapes,
nondually co-arising reiterative revolutions together.

What feels like a profound pronoia revolution inside
our whirlwind of great paradigmatic enculturing climatic storms,
when analyzed from outside,
is also the new normal pro/para-normed day to day coop/(0)-sum compete acclimation balance,
karmic evolution of who we have become up to this day,
to be reviewed this time-empty dream-feeling ruminating night
of timeless from-within RightBrain decomposition
of LeftBrain from-without analysis of personal as environmental ethology,
purpose messages speaking from DNA’s recombinantly interdependent string of enculturing history,
separating out cognitive/affective dissonance
from cognitive/affective LeftRight confluence,
healthy primal relationship of ecopolitical thermodynamics.

Metaphysical thought,
like physical reality,
is measured with and against the cause/effect lattice network of time.
To know another is to sense another.
The essence of movement that we sense
we exegetically cognize as ecologically ethological ecopolitical
cause-effect-recause linear, but also cyclical,
regenerative up to some tipping point
analysis exploring risks of decompositional imbalance
of future healthy ecopolitical resource distribution and consumption
across our passage of health-devouring and pathology-absorbing time.

Abstractions of metaphysical analysis
work more symmetrically geometrically balanced and harmonic,
more rationally,
for group and game and evolutionary reiterative patterned-rhythmed models.
And with these
we forget our own, and other’s, and Elders’ compassionate hearts and mindbodies as health v pathology bicamerally enculturation biosystems,
each of us with a far too real-time passion for healthier,
more cooperative rules of legal and moral and ethical
and nutritional and healthy and fertile ecopolitical play.

Ego, in bilateral ecosystemic principle,
a self-regenerating (0)-sum economic and politically empowered nutritional flow potential Empty soul,
decomposer,
processor of time’s evolution toward health
and away from global pathologies
AND
yet each ego also interdependent
within this WinWin healthywealthy organic purpose
within Earth’s healthy regenerate fertile deep learned meanings
of light with dualdark cosmology,
of uracil and thymine with double-binding cytosine
of positive ionic iconic c-squared light function with reverse double-binding dipolarity,
accessible to analytical decomposition of both reason and feeling,
empathic trust of pronoia,
understory to dyspeptic distrust of paranoia.

But, what is written across each natured mind
is also spoken midway across each hearted body,
that this fractured interdependent wholeness of Earth,
and our Ego-identity within these healthing/pathologizing subclimates of Earth,
is all together fully implicated within our (0)-sum organic ecopolitical analysis
of healthy ethological regenerativity,
actively hoping for fertile climates of and for positive solidarity outcomes,
predicated within our implicating (0) mindbody
inherited from Elders also doing their best
with interdependent-Left as empty/holonic-Right
bilateral-bicameral children of ecobalancing temporal climates,
pronoia normed landscapes and health-climates,

Gaia’s Humane Rights to/for/of Healthy Climates

In 1968,
a time of great concern for healthy human civil rights
for and of women as well as LeftBrain culturally dominant men,
Gregory Bateson invited a Symposium
not quite a finished Symphony
proposing Moral and Aesthetic Structure of Human [Climate] Adaptation.

He closed his invitation to show up as follows
[with my own updating Earth Climate Rights commentary in brackets]:

We have perhaps what Sir Geoffrey Vickers has called
an ‘ecology of ideas.’
[a health v pathology ecology,
climates of and for ideas,
learning and unlearning climates for therapeutic adaptive/maladaptive purposes].

If it be true that certain people are specially gifted
in the [polypathic multicultural] art of acting upon complex [eco]systems
with [empathic trust/mistrust balancing] homeostatic
or ecological
characteristics,
and that these people do not [co]operate
by spelling out the interaction of all relevant [health/pathology] variables,
then these people must use some inner [health of] ecology
of ideas as an [ecosystemic] analogic model.
(By ‘ideas’ I mean thoughts, premises, affects,
[feelings, attendance, listening, relational, empathies]
perceptions of self, etc.)

But if this [empathic trust/mistrust] skill is, in some sense,
really an art [of ego/eco-listening]
then it is possible that the inner ‘ecology of ideas’ is a close synonym
of what might also be called aesthetic [affective-cognitive] sensibility [and dissonance].

These notions suggest, finally, that there may be another approach
to the problems of a Theory of
[Therapeutic EarthRights-HumaneRights] Action.

As I write this, on November 5, 1968, the nation is voting to choose a President
and the voters are faced by alternative candidates–
none of whom even claims to have either [ecological] aesthetic
or [ecopolitical] biological insight
into the [empathic healthy trust] affairs of a large [cooperative] nation.

Be that as it may,
I suggest that before we proceed to a consideration of theories of [therapeutic] action,
we should devote some time to the question of aesthetic [ecosystemically healthy-wealth] determinism [favoring power-with over power-over resolutions]
for the following reasons:

a. It is conceivable that there is a whole other order of determinative [health/pathology] factors,
to ignore which would be as fatal as to ignore the homeostatic [co-empathic trust/mistrust] aspect of biological [nutritional-digestive] systems.

b. It is possible that the aesthetic [truth-as-beauty, symmetry, affinitive proportion] approach,
with its special emphasis upon [natural] patterns
and the [emergent] modulation of [ecotherapeutic] patterns,
may be a natural development out of mem-theory
and 0-graphs [fractal, 4D binary bilateral metric information prime empty-climate, vacuum of nutritional information, ‘wallpaper’ or dialectally folding/unfolding landscape group/game theory reiterative-revolving systemic]

c. It is possible that the [co-empathic] aesthetic is in some [bicameral] way
closely related to
or [and] derivative from the cybernetic [genetic-binary, reiteratively double-bind bilateral balancing tree-root nutritional health structure].

d. It is possible that the aesthetic approach may provide short cuts to the [deductive-only] evaluation
and [Left v RightBrain] criticism of plans for [therapeutic] action.

e. It is possible that [basic] aesthetic [empathic trust] perception may be characteristic of [ecologically healthy bicameral-balancing] human beings,
so that action plans which ignore this characteristic
of [Left-Right equivalent] human perception
are unlikely to be [power-with, cooperatively, struggling with as not against] adopted,
and even unlikely to be [cooperatively] practicable
[because not supported by ecopolitical social-cultural dominant structures
despite evolutionary history
as ethological witness to mindbodies of and for health regeneration].

f. It is possible that aesthetic computation and aesthetic creativity are subject to pathological disturbance [mindbody illness]
Certainly creative and artistic processes are in part determined by epoch
and [Left and/or RightBrain dominance and/or equivalent] cultural milieu [climate].
It is likely therefore
that pathologies of culture will produce [ecopolitical] pathologies
of [ugly, terrifying, vacuous, nihilistic] aesthetic perception
and [reductive, seductive iconic] monsters of [mistrusting and ambiguous] aesthetic creation.

g. But, conversely, if the aesthetically [oppositional bipolar either-or Left v appositionally dipolar both-and Right] monstrous
be symptomatic of cultural [ecopolitical climate] pathology,
then we have to remember that in all such [sacred ecosystemic] cases,
the symptom is the [pathology] system’s attempt to cure itself [ourselves].
The creation of the appropriate [evil-reverses-live, terrorist, abusive, neglectful] monstrosities might therefore be a component in corrective [purgative] action.
It is possible that some contemporary [subclimates for nutritional landscape optimization permacultural] artists
are actually doing [multiculturally inclusive healthy] things
which we in our conference hope to plan to do
[both economically and politically re-acclimative volution].

For these and related reasons,
I think that we should take a good look at the [climatic] problems
of [empathic trust/mistrust] aesthetics
before we go on to the [ecological] problems of [therapeutic climate] action.

Sacred Ecology Channel

CareFueled Causes

You are charged with a misdemeanor,
based on witnesses
who thought they head you saying you were leaving
even though you knew
you dinged this red truck’s door.

I know they saw me like that
but that’s because they could not hear
I was the driver ahead of them
holding out a $5 or $10
or even a $20,
if that was the least I had,
to any one beside the road
wearing a self-made person sign:
Homeless
Please help me.

I never pass these opportunities to help.

You see I have an oldest son
now twenty-one
who is not quite right
and tries his best
but finding and keeping a peaceful train of thought,
much more a job,
is hard for him
and so he stays where he may be welcome
despite what he can ill afford
to rest on other’s dime and time.

I never pass a chance to help
when need for help is obvious
as the tears we face
when humanity feels disgraced,
effaced by race,
knowing only left behind
to do the best they can
to ask us to do our best, we can,
to help when they approach us
with life’s nutritional concerns.

I make it my business to always try to help
when someone’s in our mess.
It would be too out of character
to know me as these have heard,
doing my best to avoid
a dinged your door responsibility,
because if a mess I caused
I had no interest to not confess
and then open my eager to be warmed wallet,
already too long-suffering of neglect.

But I do confess,
these are all my messes,
and yours as well.
We have too often acclimated
to this culture,
where we do not actively care
for one another,
and so not so much for ourselves either.

I hope to treat each mess we cause
as gently and lovingly as I so hope
someone right now will find the faith to see
within my homeless not quite right son’s asking eyes:
Would you help me,
us?
Do you know yet,
already,
we are in this together,
or we are out to fall and lose apart?

If you see him
let him go
do not hold him
by his toe
be not mean or bad in return.
Try with me to relearn
he’s done his almost best
to get it more almost right
next time.

So feel free to lavish praise
on how close he might have come
to doing better.
This helps him, and you,
feel and remember better
and perhaps even rather less than worse.

It would be my misdemeanor
to not do my best
wherever I see our mess.
I confess
I cannot see me in this way.
These watchers and listeners and speakers against me
must misunderstand,
yet perhaps that’s all to life’s good.
Makes me wonder
how they would see me
if they had recognized that guy in front,
stopped to say yes to each homeless mess,
could we all better take time enough
to just say yes
to benefits of doubt?

Fugitives of Justice

Thank god I finally was caught and cited
for doing something that I didn’t do.

Just think how much worse I would feel
if I actually had done it,
as I have done so many stupid thoughtless things
without getting caught,
at least not by the judicial system.

I hope it all balances out
and at least I can face the music
knowing of my innocence this time,
and continue hiding all my negligent guilts from other times,
failing to read bedtime stories when they could have helped,
failing to remember to touch with kindness
especially when hurts could thereby be healed.

We sometimes confuse reasonable human error,
perhaps negligent in the absence of other stressful distractions,
with deliberately choosing to respond to damage
with full-willed intent,
to actively evade responsibility for damage,
for life’s victimizing owies.

And sometimes our front line justice system,
we have both inherited and created
to leave for our children to suffer against
and rejoice with,
further fuels this confused misunderstanding
confuses poor communication and human error
with taking high risk evasive action
far outweighing positive,
far less time and money invested,
opportunities to act
in a more socially acceptable spirit of cooperation
by exercising a basic Golden Rule orientation
to self-with-other governance.
When this happens, we evade credibility,
to too quickly embrace criminalizing responsibility,
perhaps due to our own overly-paranoid imaginations.

Communication.
Economic and political life is all about misunderstood messages
and sending out clear, consistent, redundantly positive messages.

Would any right mind,
when asked by a witness to a car door ding,
“You’re going to leave your number on their windshield aren’t you?”
would anyone fully insured,
totally sober
with a pen and paper in the car,
truly respond to that question with a “no”
and then drive calmly and slowly off,
leaving plenty of time for multiple witnesses to get a plate number?

Maybe.
Maybe if he had looked at the cherry red truck
and could not see damage
that portended a visit for needed cosmetic repair.

Then again,
maybe the witness only asked this question
in the silence of her own imagination
or out loud but at a level of discreet volume
restricted so only she and those with her could hear.
After all,
you don’t want to confront a crazy stranger
in a busy parking lot
who just might need some help
coping with his psychotic daughter
having an ill-timed manic episode,
laughing hysterically while blasting Ella Fitzgerald
singing “Love For Sale” across the medical center’s parking lot
right?
Or wrong?
Or maybe something in between?

Who are the victims here
and is there even one that could not have been made stronger
and healthier
with and by a stronger spirit of cooperation?
Thereby making it even more likely
that next time,
next place,
next cherry red truck,
next victims of life’s little transitional challenges
will get things better,
rather than climatically worse.

Reclusive Accountabilities

I am sick of excuses to avoid responsibility
and I am, today, sick with excuses to avoid responsibility
with “I’m just a mortal human. I make mistakes.
I judge situations and relationships,
assess potential risks to care and nourishing choices
badly sometimes.”

I do. And so do you.

At the same time,
I applaud mutually transparent accountability
to always do our best,
to apply Golden Rules as broadly stretching out across time and species,
until no moment escapes our WinWin ecoconscious
YES!
to totally sharing accountability for
my/our judgments,
communication,
my/our relationships,
for both positives and negatives.
Yes to sharing accountability for my/our environments and cultural climates,
my/our days,
my/our generations,
my/our species,
my/our choices of entertainment and amusement,
my/our realities and imaginations,
my/our judiciary system,
my/our Police Officers
and attorneys
and judges
and potentially useful WinWin ecopolitical leaders
and, of course,
loving parents
co-mentoring breathing in
as breathing out together with both ears nondually co-arising Basic Attendance.

Responsible,
doing the best I can each moment,
mindful behavior choices
are nourished by low-stress environments,
and their wise and good-humored caretakers.

When law enforcement is culturally more important
than peace enforcement,
When the criminalization of humanity is culturally acceptable
ecopolitical harm through coldly-calculated bullying,
repressive intimidation,
then we are all entrapped in mutually-paranoid terrorism and LoseLose scenarios,
correctional strategies guaranteed to bring the worst possible outcomes
for everyone,
about which absolutely no one is really better than miserable.

Criminal-prejudice is no more politically, economically, ecologically healthy
than is racism.
In fact, for many U.S. people of color,
racism feels a whole lotta like presumption of abusive/neglectful criminal-intent.
Paranoia is this same presumption, writ large,
across our entire BusinessAsUsual cultural climate of pathology.

Peace enforcement
and the full balanced ecoconscious humanization of this species
require us to accept what we might see and hear
and feed ourselves,
in positive healthy ecopolitical days and nights
as positively incarnated Reality Shows
where everybody actually wins what they most need in the end,
or at least more than they had,
where there are no real losers needed to make a good wholesome story,
positive youtube videos are for every mind and body’s WinWin future.

Law enforcement
and the nihilistic further commodification and criminalization of humanity
does not nourish well-rounded healthy regenerations
to build up who we ecotherapeutically are
and where we are headed together,
like cynical negative Reality Shows,
and sociopathic social media messages
of violence and mayhem begets more of same.

We have positive Selfies and social media stars
and there are also negatives.
But, we hope our political leaders
and police officers
and judicial systems
are feeding more on the positive
and not frothing at the mouth so much
in actively dissonant mistrusts of collective culturally degenerative paranoia.

We have a profound ecopolitical choice to make,
to invest in positive health assumptions of Golden Rule good faith
until proven otherwise,
not just strongly, prejudicially, and malignantly suspected,
and we too often invest in negative social and eco-political poor health choices,
news and interpreted events
as entertainments and grist for ruminating imaginations
and then paranoid realities,
LoseLose pathologies,
absence of faith in a more integrative regenerative future.

We can choose to learn our way toward more robust Climate Health,
or go this other way,
with armed humorless paranoids
disguised in peace officer uniforms,
really out to get themselves yet another victim
of their anger and disappointment with humanity’s
lack of self-respect and -responsibility,
including their own sometimes
when they really are not doing the best they can
in a struggling situation.
Or, are they?

Those who feast on negative media and gaming entertainments,
bad-environment choices,
maybe shouldn’t take the lead on determining what is commercially-viable news
about challenging and suffering events and cultures
and religions,
and economic and political systems,
and ecological systems
still gasping for more positive good-news health
and less satire and nihilism,
and paranoia.

Responsibility meets our levels of accountability
for trust and empathy
and active listening and noticing possibilities to minimize victimization,
criminalization,
revenge,
stealth and duplicity,
anger and fear,
mistrusts growing into raging distrustful paranoid hatreds
of individual magical fragile sacred people,
and families nurtured by and in and with Beloved Communities,
we have too often reduced to vocational labels
associated with diatribes of prejudicial disrespect,
not understanding victim-creators suffer too,
for what they do and what they have failed to do,
as how they are
in this too-toxic environment.

If you cannot find any compassion for your accusers,
your nay-sayers,
your deniers,
your bullies and fascists and terrorists
for their ridiculous LoseLose scenarios
begging for a good laugh,
rather than satirical character assassinations,
stepping out of WinWin hopes and faiths for health and help and hope,
then you are still looking
for how this that has happened to you
could move further toward WinWin ecopolitics,
more opportunities for health with less risk of pathology,
as am I,
while a paranoid white male Police Officer
continues shouting through my screen door
about my highly over-rated sense of shameless disregard for others.

Maybe he just needs more sleep,
better meds.
Who knows?
I wish they wouldn’t let him out loose with a gun
by himself,
he’s scaring me and my kids
with his humorless lack of hearing
and therefore compassion for others
who probably also could use more sleep,
more vacation,
less negative recreations.

Terrorism Writ Small

Coldly calculated
deliberately intended
terror-inducing violence,
physical and/or verbal,
is motivated by anger and fear,
but also sometimes, on a larger scale,
by beliefs that vengeance can be,
or at least eventually become,
ecopolitically justified means
toward an egocentrically healthy outcome.

Corollary: Nihilism could help me one day
feel and think and breathe OK.

Anyone who has been properly raised by four,
or perhaps even two, teenagers,
each of whom believes it is his or her,
or whatever in-between, duty
to update your more cooperative networking skills,
hopefully will have learned
that both belief in vengeful nastiness
and its nihilistic corollary
are errors in ecopolitically healthy
and correct judgment.

In Our Dotage

What do you dote on?
Who do you dote with, if anyone?

“Dote” is an old-time word for ruminate,
to dwell on and within,
to become absorbed by and with.

Then there is also “antidote”.

Let’s imagine that our massive events and entertainment media
were to merge into an eventertainment industry,
hypnotised and hypnotising
to dote on negative events
in which we explore ourselves and others as victims in some dissonant way,
suffering anthro-doting creations not yet present when champion creator god
looked and saw that we smell good.

This way of empathizing with others
stepping into our co-awareness of humanity,
discovering both my and our identities as victims of abuse and neglect,
terror and malignant apathy,
also evolves reverent wonder and awe
recovering
discovering
uncovering champion creator antidotes,
new ecopolitical gods and goddesses
ways and means
for and of
images and dreams of crevices and cracks
filling with peaceful justice
fragrant with lemon-scented sustaining mercy,
lavender of love,
in four-dimensional organic color
following outlines of days when healthy therapeutic news was good
and bad,
but all agreed,
normatively good was green below with blue above
in yellow light
from which we came to champion through each night.

If we are victim doters
then antidoting champions too
to see full color stretching identities
of me through organic you,
both victim and larger self-potentiating champions,
heroic powers cooperating our more positive psychology,
evaporating our too negative dotage,
together.

Dillen’s Continuing DMV Adventures

I wrote a sad but true urban legend called “Dillen and the DMV” last week.
Here follows an update.

Background Review:

One of my health care employees, Dillen, has wicked ADD, borderline intelligence, not qualifying for disability supports, which are few
and those few minimal at best anyway,
but also challenged by things like getting to work on the right day at the right time,
challenged by processing verbal communications,
whether written or spoken more slowly than Business As Usual pace and pattern would permit,
challenged with struggles to establish and maintain healthy positive social relationships,
much more challenged by intimacy,
so often settling for companionship that does not foster mutually therapeutic co-mentoring,
challenged by his felt urgency for speed while driving,
challenged by States Attorneys who persuade him it’s OK to accept guilty as charged
for driving 45 in a 35 mph zone on his way to work,
never mind that so were all the cars in front of and behind him,
not to worry that this will inevitably result in a 3-month suspension of his license
because he can get a Work Permit,
except, oops,
never mind,
the DMV will not give Work Permits to suspended drivers
with more than three moving violations,
encouraged by State Prosecutors to go right ahead,
send in that Work Permit application
with his $100 nonrefundable fee
because the DMV is really all about punishing DUIs,
of which Dillen has none
because he doesn’t drink
because, in part, he knows it is bad for his mental health,
especially his chronic issues with depression.

In “Dillen and the DMV” I write to the DMV Commissioner,
the Chief States Attorney, and the Attorney General
about this series of unfortunate events.

Update:

I hear back from the DMV.
This letter patiently reviews Dillen’s multiple infractions.
Two involve having others in his car with marijuana or concomitant paraphernalia,
(why not just “supplies” or “equipment”?)

“Marge, did you order the paraphernalia for the copier machine yet?”
Word choices in the public sector often distract me.

but Dillen was not charged with driving stoned,
because he wasn’t.
He was the designated driver for his “friends”
who did not have their Medical Marijuana cards on them.

Then there was the time he might have been going 35 or 40 and hit black ice,
totaled his car
which ended upside down,
for which the local police felt they must issue some form of moving violation,
after all, we do have those towing charges
and the need for all those emergency folks to stand out in the freezing ice storm,
and there are these two drug-related violations on his driving record
so he was probably stoned anyway, right?

And then there was this time,
when Dillen was pulled over
ostensibly for speeding,
but really this was about driving on a suspended license
without a Work Permit
which he didn’t have because
(1) DMV didn’t have a current address to send him his notice,
so he didn’t know he was driving on a suspended license, and
(2) no one had told him,
including the Police Officer who pulled him over,
there is this Work Permit thing
which would have covered his butt
on this particular adventure in high speed suburban crime.

However, this letter from the DMV Director of Programs leaves out some details,
as does my summary.
Then the Program Director reassures Dillen and I of her concern for Dillen’s mess,
which someone else might have called unemployment
and yet another round of couch-surfing homelessness,
but CT’s pesky State Statutes wouldn’t allow her to refund his application fee,
and, besides,
the application form says right on there that it won’t be refunded
even if the application is rejected

Apparently for reasons that remain in the shadow of the public eye.
My two page letter was too subtle for government comprehension
of our own collective abuse and neglect.
She confirms the DMV does have explicit standards for rejecting applications,
including more than three moving violations,
but fails to apologize for designing her Program’s communication plan
to be sure that disproportionately young urban minority low-income males
with mental health and self-medication issues
would be fleeced of their last $100
ripped out of their hungry pockets
to apply for a Work or Education Permit
that State Statutes prohibit her,
so sadly,
from handing out like mother’s milk to a starving baby.

She also does not speculate about why State Prosecutors Dillen has met
are all apparently unaware of stipulated public, but effectively private, criteria for rejecting
pricey applications.

She also fails to mention what she might do to correct this situation
of not providing transparent public information
in a way that allows respected residents of the State of CT
to make a fully informed decision about wasting their money
by further investing in the future miserable outcomes
of shoddy DMV Programs.

She also does not explain where we,
the tax-payers of CT,
were when concerns about the need for job security,
especially for those in hard-to-employ populations,
where we were when needs for food and housing,
healthy wants for continuing education and training,
including the need for continuing education and training,
including the need for reasonable transportation,
even in the winter,
where we all were when these were not being weighted sufficiently against risks,
allowing licensed drivers with complex histories
to continue on their journey
the best they can.

Personally, I know Dillen responds much better to a warm hug,
a patient smile,
and expressed appreciation for continuing to improve,
and encouragement to continue with work
and sticking with a healthy daily routine,
which does not include speeding,
even if everyone around him is racing to nowhere good.

Yesterday I was mesmerized for several hours by a TV series
“Underground”
about the Railroad prior to the U.S. Civil War.
A champion anti-slavery attorney
confesses to his Northern wife,
as a younger attorney he used to settle estates,
including estates of slave-holders,
which sometimes led to the awkwardness of arranging for resale of people,
families,
often resulting in the tearing of children from their mothers’ arms,
and other similar heinous crimes against nature
and mental health.

For some reason
I kept thinking about that clerk at DMV,
reading Work Permit applications,
after depositing the enclosed nonrefundable $100,
looking at the high security publicly invisible list of reasons not to help
depressed people living mostly in their cars
have a modestly better chance at life,
as if what is a right for him or her
on his or her way to work and home again,
is a too luxurious privilege for a fragile at-risk criminal population,
enslaved by their need to self-propel their freedom futures.
