Pertinence of Compassion

Impertinence of Zealotry

Impertinence
reminds Roshi Susan Murphy,
refers not only to Trumpian rudeness,
but also irrelevance
to Earth’s Kingdom
at Compassionate Hand.

I was watching “Silence” last night
about zealous colonizing missionaries
learning creolizing compassion
of growing relevant to cultures
languages
indigenous to unwashed aliens
suffering the zealous impertinence
of selfishly empowered elites.

This, in turn,
reminded me of Trumpian impertinence
regarding health and safety defensive care
of a people,
a democratically inclusive nation,
but also,
in this time of growing climate pathologies,
a health-impassioned species

Interdependent with thousands of indigenous alien species,
all breathing air
just as fire ebbs and swells,
all drinking water
just as Earth’s skin absorbs
and impertinently dries out
burns out
plays out
compassion for human zealot impertinence
evaporated
like clean air
and pure and pertinent waters
of Earth’s primal baptism.

Impertinence is deaf and blind
and therefore zealously dumb
in abusive reaction against Earth’s relevant sacred health care voices
and creolizing intentions.

When Trumpians campaign and vote against ObamaCare
of pertinent compassion,
We are not bicamerally remembered,
heard
and felt
and supported
and well represented
by past legislating Democrats and Republicans
and all creolizing in between
who would not deny any creature
an Affordable HealthCare Act
should not be confused
with UnAffordable DeathSupporting Actions.

Including those most likely to suffer first
from lack of pure and pertinent drinking water
for people
and our interdependent plants,
and troubled by smoke and fires
zealously colonizing dried out compassions
for more bicameral creolic pertinence
in recent
better healthcare climates
wealthier past.

Wise and pertinent missionaries,
like all permacultural designers,
like all compassionate facilitators
of and for restoring therapeutic justice,
arrive on Earth’s frontier shores
of new adventures
in growing co-empathic love,

First to listen
and learn
indigenous health and climate care values and disvalues
already implanted
through Sacred MotherEarth’s
Green-Blue Voices

Speaking of what is least likely resonant
to violently and zealously forget
to see
and hear
and think
impertinence of rude Red
climates and internal landscapes

When surrounded still
by Earth’s creolizing Green-Blue chorus
of more quietly passioned living waters
and Restoring Peace Circles
regenerated near warming fires
under cold Advent FullMoon skies
pertinent with gracious light compassions.

Death Sentences

Death leaves a sacred hole
where once lived a whole relationship
with both potential future
and a now more cherished past

Still seen
and heard
and smelled,
tasted and felt, sensed
and incensed
through an echoing hole of darkly bitter loss.

I would be a hypocrite
and a liar
if I were to condemn
our sons and their cherished friends
for cowardice
or craziness
for choosing to end their lives.

When government sanctioned taking of life
goes on and on and on
we call this the cost of just wars
or a death penalty
rather than a life forfeit.
Yet it is the living
who repay this price.

It could be more honest
to call these deliberate extractions
a death investment
and perpetual re-investment
of a culture not yet sure of how radically vulnerable
compassionate life could
and should
become.

Death investment repeated as long as politically expedient,
and also personally poignant
whether self or other inflicted
or something in-between.

I do not grieve his loss of future
but my own

For to grieve my own lost future,
all we might have yet become together,
is honest,
and holy

While to grieve his lost future
is to dishonor his choice
and his compulsion
to part ways
when life felt too dishonest
to bear another traumatic day.

To be born
before or after
or beside and aside one’s right-felt time
and nurturing place
is already loss of future
sent through messages past
as love grows too thin and faded
lust for life descends too jaded,
loss of faith
for hope
arising futures now lost.

I would not dishonor,
too easily dismiss,
suicidal loss of life
as complete insanity
as if I could claim,
with full integrity,
that inhumane and too-patriarchal living losses
are not shy of full-grown sanity.

As this day closes,
this time and place
in tears of loss
without fanfare,
without deadly sentences
much less farewells,
I yet lack courage
of my own despair
about our future of continuing death investment
as measured by my own limits
for tolerating inane insanity,
vitriolic violence,
absurd abuse
of calling deliberate death investments a penalty
as if any life were something reasonably erased
through ultimatum fines
for having had an unfortunate birth day.

This death leaves a sacred hole
where once lived a whole relationship
of futures cast together
now gently placed
apart.

What did he see
that I have not yet felt
strongly enough
to choose to never see again?

This question changes those left behind
for the rest of our haunted days and nights.

Why him,
and not yet me,
not yet us?

Ms. Liska

When I was a FreshPerson in a new higher school,
our English Literature class was delighted
to meet a new to our rural area Ms. Liska,
who was a beautiful teacher
both outside
and in,
and so we all loved her,
and knew she loved us as well,
although sometimes not happy with one or another
due to smart-ass behavior.

One day,
for reasons we could not imagine at the time,
nor would I remember in this rhyme
of metaphysical reasons for living
and dying,
Ms. Liska
asked if any of us had heard of Marcus Aurelius.

Whom I happened to be reading at the time.
So I was, as I recall,
surprised to see only my hand up
because I had probably just volunteered
to display my FreshPerson ignorance.

She did in fact go there
and ask just whom I thought Aurelius was,
which seemed to me
to be
a Roman Emperor
who was also a published Stoic philosopher.

And so it seemed to Ms. Liska as well
so why not dig the Stoic grinding ax some deeper?
And what is Stoicism?

Now definitions
are not my strength,
I’m more of a delineating guy.
So I thought a Roman Stoic
might be like a British Churchill,
keeping a stiff upper lip
having looked at all our deadly facts
and blundering on anyway
with this mysterious life of stoicism.

Of course Ms. Liska
would not allow stoicism to rear its obstinate head
within its own stubborn definition
so she kindly invited me to try again,
not because I was wrong,
she quickly added,
but because I could become even more right.

Marcus Aurelius reminds us
if life is indeed a bed of roses
then we should expect some deadly thorns
along life’s thunderous way.

He invites us to embrace our birthday
by remembering
this celebration is paid back
with an ultimate death day,
as what grows up must also fade down
and back.
It’s a package deal.
Accepting this package as gift
in its life and death polarities
is a stoic thing to do,
and a delusional thing
not to do,
a Greek act of hubris;
not very Roman patriotic,
not stoically realistic.

Ms. Liska found this better
than my stoic thorns
along life’s bed of dying roses way.
But,
then we skipped along to something else
and I never did have my time
to ask her what she thought
about similarities and differences
between who has authority to induce life
and whom might, then,
find responsibility for deducting my life,
any life,
humanely compassionate
or more stoically otherwise,
like a hungry Roman Emperor
or voracious bear.

For it seemed to me
quite transparently true
that in accepting my right to live
and do the best I could
to stoically tolerate
everybody else’s own acceptance of their right to live
and do the stoic best we can
with life’s inevitable ups and downs,
then we must agree with our inherited justice system,
and to live within a just war view of stoic death
is also an unjustified view of my authority to live responsibly.

I was no more authoritative
and remain no less responsible
for causing my own stoic life to begin
than to end my own life,
much less anyone else’s,
or to delegate authority
to some tired State
to do this for me.

I think Marcus Aurelius
was more stoically comfortable
with society’s right
to invite
each person who has taken a life
to become responsible enough
to consider choosing their own death
within a wider ecological context
of restorative justice.

But, just, fair, equitable restoration of a life
irresponsibly taken
does not in any way,
not even a stoic way,
suggest society’s collective right
to irresponsibly take yet another life
now lived across a threshold
of authority
beyond which we cannot responsibly live
cooperatively together.

In choosing to kill,
in choosing to sanction acts of deadly violence,
in choosing to maim and harm,
in choosing deadly and imprisoning revenge,
we stoically choose our own death day
with no more or less authority and responsibility
than for our own birthday,
and each day that follows
between life’s roses
and deadly shaming blaming thorns,
between integrity
and separations
devoid of restorative justice opportunity,
further WinWins
for each and all EarthTribe.

It is difficult to teach how to stoically fall on one’s own responsible sword
when raised in a military-industriously violent society
determined to competitively invest millions of dollars
in deadening revenge
rather than enlivening sacred invitations
to more stoic restorative justice,
celebrating life feeds life birthdays
and eulogizing death breeds death days
lost in mythic pasts
when we first sacrificed virgin children
to a drought-inducing
Vengeance is Mine
SunGod,
even before Holy Roman Empires.

Justice as revenge
assumes our competitive choices
are between brands of death,
while restorative justice,
more stoically balanced,
presumes if we did not first, more primally,
have cooperative choices between brands of life,
then branding and marketing justified death
would remain an ecological and historical moot point
of LoseLose vengeful nihilism.

And so I continued in my smart-ass ways,
wondering what Ms. Liska would think
about balancing our right to life
with fight against condoning death
except where stoically chosen.

Sacred Calculations

I wouldn’t want you to walk away
with any miscalculations about me.

I am about as wild and crazy as society will allow
without confinement for my own protection.

Whenever I read a self-marketing sign

Please Help…
Vacancies of home and stomach,
Needing to be filled.

I feed the bearers of these signs
of society’s emargination
into raw and naked
erase and start again.

When I notice long-haired grunge,
low-budget gypsys with backpacks and shopping carts,
heading toward me asking to become excused
for asking for things they need,
I head in their direction
to find our best redirection
together.

My husband begrudges every dime
and points out I’m too wild
for pouring mostly alcohol
or worse down throats
without a home.
He claims they’re addicted suicides
waiting for death’s embrace.

But, I say this is too often true
and who am I to judge
those who explore doing their best
of worst available options
given all their dark stuff come before
through self-medication
mixed with sheltered soups
and public kitchens?

Were I or he on that street
rejected by our own history of defeat
I would hope to find those wise enough to stay
with me long enough
to help medicate my way,
to suffer with my emptiness
and ask me please to stay,
tell them all my blues,
sing and dance this suffering away.

I’m retired.
Have more cash than I could ever need,
and don’t want to go out that way,
hoarding funds for those who already have too much
while somewhere out there stands
a homeless sign whose bearer
prefers to drink her lunch.

If our legacy composes
both what we do for love
and what we do not do from fear,
If both our action and omissions,
our positives and negatives,
remain behind to feed and haunt our kids,
then why would I not choose
to offer medicines of caring
when neglect is so clearly that of which
this homelessness was made.

Dillen’s Continuing DMV Adventures

I wrote a sad but true urban legend called “Dillen and the DMV” last week.
Here follows an update.

Background Review:

One of my health care employees, Dillen, has wicked ADD, borderline intelligence, not qualifying for disability supports, which are few
and those few minimal at best anyway,
but also challenged by things like getting to work on the right day at the right time,
challenged by processing verbal communications,
whether written or spoken more slowly than Business As Usual pace and pattern would permit,
challenged with struggles to establish and maintain healthy positive social relationships,
much more challenged by intimacy,
so often settling for companionship that does not foster mutually therapeutic co-mentoring,
challenged by his felt urgency for speed while driving,
challenged by States Attorneys who persuade him it’s OK to accept guilty as charged
for driving 45 in a 35 mph zone on his way to work,
never mind that so were all the cars in front of and behind him,
not to worry that this will inevitably result in a 3-month suspension of his license
because he can get a Work Permit,
except, oops,
never mind,
the DMV will not give Work Permits to suspended drivers
with more than three moving violations,
encouraged by State Prosecutors to go right ahead,
send in that Work Permit application
with his $100 nonrefundable fee
because the DMV is really all about punishing DUIs,
of which Dillen has none
because he doesn’t drink
because, in part, he knows it is bad for his mental health,
especially his chronic issues with depression.

In “Dillen and the DMV” I write to the DMV Commissioner,
the Chief States Attorney, and the Attorney General
about this series of unfortunate events.

Update:

I hear back from the DMV.
This letter patiently reviews Dillen’s multiple infractions.
Two involve having others in his car with marijuana or concomitant paraphernalia,
(why not just “supplies” or “equipment”?)

“Marge, did you order the paraphernalia for the copier machine yet?”
Word choices in the public sector often distract me.

but Dillen was not charged with driving stoned,
because he wasn’t.
He was the designated driver for his “friends”
who did not have their Medical Marijuana cards on them.

Then there was the time he might have been going 35 or 40 and hit black ice,
totaled his car
which ended upside down,
for which the local police felt they must issue some form of moving violation,
after all, we do have those towing charges
and the need for all those emergency folks to stand out in the freezing ice storm,
and there are these two drug-related violations on his driving record
so he was probably stoned anyway, right?

And then there was this time,
when Dillen was pulled over
ostensibly for speeding,
but really this was about driving on a suspended license
without a Work Permit
which he didn’t have because
(1) DMV didn’t have a current address to send him his notice,
so he didn’t know he was driving on a suspended license, and
(2) no one had told him,
including the Police Officer who pulled him over,
there is this Work Permit thing
which would have covered his butt
on this particular adventure in high speed suburban crime.

However, this letter from the DMV Director of Programs leaves out some details,
as does my summary.
Then the Program Director reassures Dillen and I of her concern for Dillen’s mess,
which someone else might have called unemployment
and yet another round of couch-surfing homelessness,
but CT’s pesky State Statutes wouldn’t allow her to refund his application fee,
and, besides,
the application form says right on there that it won’t be refunded
even if the application is rejected

Apparently for reasons that remain in the shadow of the public eye.
My two page letter was too subtle for government comprehension
of our own collective abuse and neglect.
She confirms the DMV does have explicit standards for rejecting applications,
including more than three moving violations,
but fails to apologize for designing her Program’s communication plan
to be sure that disproportionately young urban minority low-income males
with mental health and self-medication issues
would be fleeced of their last $100
ripped out of their hungry pockets
to apply for a Work or Education Permit
that State Statutes prohibit her,
so sadly,
from handing out like mother’s milk to a starving baby.

She also does not speculate about why State Prosecutors Dillen has met
are all apparently unaware of stipulated public, but effectively private, criteria for rejecting
pricey applications.

She also fails to mention what she might do to correct this situation
of not providing transparent public information
in a way that allows respected residents of the State of CT
to make a fully informed decision about wasting their money
by further investing in the future miserable outcomes
of shoddy DMV Programs.

She also does not explain where we,
the tax-payers of CT,
were when concerns about the need for job security,
especially for those in hard-to-employ populations,
where we were when needs for food and housing,
healthy wants for continuing education and training,
including the need for continuing education and training,
including the need for reasonable transportation,
even in the winter,
where we all were when these were not being weighted sufficiently against risks,
allowing licensed drivers with complex histories
to continue on their journey
the best they can.

Personally, I know Dillen responds much better to a warm hug,
a patient smile,
and expressed appreciation for continuing to improve,
and encouragement to continue with work
and sticking with a healthy daily routine,
which does not include speeding,
even if everyone around him is racing to nowhere good.

Yesterday I was mesmerized for several hours by a TV series
“Underground”
about the Railroad prior to the U.S. Civil War.
A champion anti-slavery attorney
confesses to his Northern wife,
as a younger attorney he used to settle estates,
including estates of slave-holders,
which sometimes led to the awkwardness of arranging for resale of people,
families,
often resulting in the tearing of children from their mothers’ arms,
and other similar heinous crimes against nature
and mental health.

For some reason
I kept thinking about that clerk at DMV,
reading Work Permit applications,
after depositing the enclosed nonrefundable $100,
looking at the high security publicly invisible list of reasons not to help
depressed people living mostly in their cars
have a modestly better chance at life,
as if what is a right for him or her
on his or her way to work and home again,
is a too luxurious privilege for a fragile at-risk criminal population,
enslaved by their need to self-propel their freedom futures.

I’m not much of a writer,
more of an activist,
a doer,

negative co-relational,

because both Justice and Compassion/Revenge merge
thru essential basic-empathic-trust/immunity human relationships
of political health-equity
incarnating balance of cooperative/competitive EcoNormic Judgment MedicinePowers.

My YangJustice brings your Moose Medicine.
My YinCompassion brings us ecosystemically balancing Owl Medicine–
nutrition sucking root system
anchored in universal (0)-soul bicameral compost,
we share in this same metric universal soul-sense
that we mutually derive healthy balance
from RNA/DNA phylogeneric site structures.

Compassion and justice
are each most revengefully abundantly incarnated
when they remain balanced between Love of Other
as NotNot Self,
as Yang Loves YinYin MidWay Tipping Point EcoJustice Balance,
confluence with diversifying evolutionary health-trends,
political complementarity as economic-ecological mutual subsidiarity
of relationship;
get revenge best by becoming more even-handed,
givelifeforward advantage over mindless vengeful satiation,
further imprisoning already imprisoned-troubled hearts
with more sun-drenched nutritional potential.

Too much confluent powers of political justice
bunching up in calcifying ego- and anthro-centers
of increasingly negative political and economic health outcomes,
leads toward totalitarianism,
or a more resonant resolution
of increasingly dissonant climatic conditions,
compassionate revenge of all Earth’s Tribes,
gratefully, with profoundly empathic nutritional trust,
allowing AnthroNature to rejoin
our together EarthTribe Humaning Race to Balanced EcoJustice.

In PermaCulture Design,
in aboriginal cultures,
in metaphysics,
in theology,
in biology,
in regenerative systems theory,
there is this question,
or expectation shyly waiting within David Bohm’s Implying Natural Order
following Original Intent
on Earth
as in internal Host ProGenitor,
embryonic matriarchal womb born of DNA-syntax compost,
healthy political/economic climate of co-mentoring gift-it-forward messiahship.

This question of co-empathic health-trust/anti-trust-pathology balance
in-between political justice as economic ecological co-passion,
flows as primordially as the question of life’s enduring meaning or purpose.
Our Original Creation Question goes back
to discern an intentional healthy-balance nutritional planting-planetary infrastructure
for the meanings and purposes we choose to regeneratively practice,
and know as health v pathological imbalance
even without ethical intelligence,
ecoconsciousness.

Robert Norton refers to Original Intent communication strings
as erupting from an enthymematic communication source;
Original Intent,
like Basic Attendance,
and Political/Economic (0)-sum ego-interest empathic trust,
evolves richly, even optimally,
nutritious investment exchange building
while maintaining absence of mutual alienation
so long as WinWin choosing reiterative relationship.

Enthymematic means before the syllogism
or meme
or communication string,
or relationship
or transaction
or explication,
before LeftBrain participation,
before language but not before feeling,
compassionate and revengeful,
and all emotional landscapes between.

A mutually subsidiary listening intent
diastatically embracing each word’s meaning,
each message’s purpose,
with abundant health-regenerating efficacy.
The right justice/compassion/getting toward healthy,
rather than pathology of “vengeance is mine”
or “retaliation is our right”
to “mutual empathic trust is our political/economic might”.
The right message
for each right person
at each right moment
for each right event.

Putting these two ideas together,
Original Intent and Enthymematic Communication,
supports Original Intent of information creation
erupts from gratitude
as essential trust response to the possibility,
the hope,
of fair and compassionate relationships,
connections,
having a new or continuing power with another,
and/or against another.

Enthymematic communication’s
original intent
is rooted in my warm light hope
toward empathic trusting power with another.

An ethical political/economic value system
is rooted in Original Intent hope
of mutual gratitude
for basic empathic trust
in warm light’s mindbody nutrition.

My Original Intent
in AnthroLanguage speaks of gratitude
for Earth as Host
of and in PermaCultural RightBrain Landscapes,
gratitude for healthy relationships with people,
places,
plants.

Justice,
without sufficient compassionate balance,
does not breed gratitude,
but does breed feelings of marginalization,
self-neglect,
and aggressive behaviors as “revenge”
and/or “defiance”.

Just with revenge,
rather than sufficient compassion for defiant behavior,
breeds further defiance and fear of violence, anger, hate,
absence of co-empathic trust.

My Original Intent of Earth’s justice
is healthy regenerativity;
ecotherapy where such rights of equitable gratitude
are not yet fully matured
