Same Old Differences

Why is it that philosophers and scientists,
and sometimes even theologians,
find healthier and less degenerative ground
lies in defining what their loves and great pursuits
are not?

Positive self-regenerating definitions
are what lie within
these negative encircling boundaries
of what it,
whatever “it” may be,
is not.

Religion is not science
and philosophy is no longer scientific
and scientific religions are an abomination
(too totalitarian, you see)
and history is none of the above,
but potentially about all of those below,
especially if they were men.

These traditions born of human experience
grow paradigmatic double-binding walls
to co-define what’s in
as what’s not yet out.

Yet, ecology of natural-spiritual systems
respects no such boundaries,
where history/herstory is our global story
of unfolding experiential reunion
with leftbrain scientific
and rightbrain religious flow
remembering
reincarnating
reweaving
nondual co-arising
ecology of karmic grace
as climate health
defined by encroaching ecopolitical
and historical
and too-industrial
climate pathologies of inhumane competing hubris.

Western religious traditions
may differ from Eastern
through telling an historically embedded tale
of co-redemptive grace
rather than timeless nondual philosophy of being
co-enlighteners,
yet both are within one ecological ecopolitical umbrella
of love’s contenting
co-arising regenerativity
as climate health
co-defining decompositional degenerativity
as further Too Busyness
hunting and devouring as competitively usual
far more than gathering and absorbing could balance
and cooperate
drawing LeftBrain boundaries
around what God/dess Earth
has also brought nutritionally
absorbingly
together.

Scientific philosophers,
and sometimes even theologians,
find healthier and more regenerative grounds
defining how our ecological loves

Watching Washington isms

There is a world of difference
between schism and jism,
but they both end up the same.

Just as patriarchal Roman Catholicism
overpowers living and breathing Christianity,
so too does Capitalism
overpower cooperative capital co-investment,
so too does autocratic rationalism
overpower syncretic enculturing con-scientivity,
so too does stale exegetical Traditionalism
corrupt fresh noticing hope
for co-redemptive learning-teaching cooperativity.

We might imagine
our Original Democratic Constitutional Intent
in developing swampy soils
now reincarnated as Washington, D.C.
was to reconstruct what Martin Luther King, Jr.
saw as a staircase rooted in Eden
before The Great Dualistic Competitive Fall
emerging upward and outward
toward a contemporary multiculturally bountiful
Beloved Community.

Washington seems to have fallen short,
perhaps toxically beheaded by civil wars
about civil rights,
collective anger management
where Beloved Eden Community hope
notices prospects for faith
within regenerative love optimization,
civil resonance maturing responsive rights
toward still emerging cooperative economic and political co-owned
authorities of Earth
and Her bountifully democratic multiculturing nation-states.

David Holmgren
encourages us,
Republicans and Democrats,
Libertarians and Climate-Healthy Greens,
to notice freedom’s Beloved Community potential
increasingly constrained by “adverse effects of over-consumption
and over-development”.
And combining thoughts of Julian Jaynes
and Edward De Bono
and Buckminster Fuller,
and countless others,
we add further generic cautions
concerning over-LeftBrain Either/Or competitive disculturation
through monopolistically deductive-reductive Win/Lose
evolutionary/devolutionary dualistic dominance.

Washington’s ecopolitical swampland
sinks through too-competitively investing
in war mongering rather than peace management,
in pathology remediation rather than proactive health care,
in pollution control rather than regenerative democratic co-ownership
of toxic waste and nutritional health streams,
in crime control rather than cooperative co-redemptive co-investment,
in anti-ecological anthrocentric enculturation
rather than regenerative mutual mentoring
education as if multiculturing loves and deaths matter,
in litigation rather than mindful integration

in suboptimizing disservices and dissonance
rather than optimizing health and nutrition consilient services.

Taoism, like Islamic Judeo-Christianity,
and unlike supremacist Chosen Patriarch Catholicism,
and like PermaCulture Design,
is bicamerally nondual rooted
in LeftBrain faith,
as co-empathic ecopolitical trust,
and in ElderMatriarchal RightBrain hope,
which PermaCulture Designers evolve toward Beloved Community PolyCulturing Promise
with simple, contenting, positive bilateral noticing,
nurturing trust in healthy belief
as contrasted against a more Washingtonian negative nihilism.

For the Taoist ecopolitical designer,
as for the Abraham through Mohammed social cooperativist,
faith is co-empathic ecopolitical trust.
What Buddhists notice as Basic Original Intent.
Yet, because of mindbody nondualism,
disembodied faith, not Beloved Community incarnate,
is a dream,
maya.
Faith intrinsically requires positive cooperative action,

To have faith in our capacity
to grow Beloved Communities

I was noticing that those in the Unitarian Universalist Association,
with which I am more or less anonymously affiliated
in some far too abstract way for personal comfort,
believe in three prime sources for their (our) truth search,
rather like a revised holonic trinity,
equally at home for Buddhist monk
or Islamic or Christian not-quite-so-fundamentalistically BothAnd alive.

The first of these is a Higher Power.
Now this must have been written by the Yang Universalists
within the Universal-Unitarian assembly,
because every wholesome Yin Unitarian knows
that what is a Higher Power for Universalist Yangers
is also a Deeper Power for Unitarian Yinners
bilateral BothAnd winners;
so, a HigherYang/DeeperYin Power.

Then we come to the second source,
YangLife and YinDeath.
Now any fully bicameral balanced Unitarian-Universalist,
just as any Taoist,
knows there is always something of Yin within Yang
and vice versa.
Just as there is something of our daytime lives
in our nighttime dreams,
and sometimes our inductive dream work
presents bilaterally incisive insights
into next morning’s Tipping Point meditation
on and for and of the breathless balance
of ego- and eco-consciousness,
empathically trusting in healthy YangLife
and safety of exhaling final YinDeath,
leaving further climatic paradoxes
and coaxial dialectic nondualities
for future regenerations to sift through,
notice,
comprehend and decompose,
and then reweave again,
as full-octave light emerges from dark
so life emerges from embryonic death

Patriotism as AntiOtherism

Paul Tillich wrote
“nationalism hates and must always hate Judaism and prophetic Christianity.”

When he spoke of nationalistic patriotism
he was thinking of fascism,
as the logical conclusion
of those more loyal to a specific supremacist space and time
than faithful to our more inclusively holonic creolization history
of a bicamerally regenerative species.

Nationalism too quickly devolves into idolatry of WinLose zero-sum gamesmanship,
elitist triumphalism as narrow-minded Chosen People
rather than WinWin nonzero-sum co-redemptive economists
of mutual messiahship.

Tillich’s ‘prophetic’ Judeo-Christian
would find U.S. nationalistic ‘evangelical’ Christians
unredemptively anti-prophetic;
merely fundamentalist EitherWinOrLose puppets of rabid capitalism
and, in more viral triumphalistic cultish forms,
also explicitly anti-Semitic
and anti-all-other-religions
and anti-historical-cultural evolution of traditional norms and values,
so anti-anything other than missionary position heterosexual expression.

Rabid ‘evangelistic’ Christianity
is anything but co-redemptively prophetic.
A messianic Christian evangelist
spreads WinWin good gospel news
through cooperative teaching and listening
and collaborative mentoring
about how we can grow this regenerative species
toward mutual transubstantiating holiness
which seems to have to do with transliterative enculturation skills
and nothing at all to do with lip service
to an “Our Shit Don’t Stink” triumphalistic creed.

When non-prophetic ‘evangelical’ Christians
examined Donald Trump’s intentions
as U.S. Presidential potential,
and declared his intentions for the patriotic elite as “pure,”
that meant purely capitalist WinLose nationalism;
saying nothing about the prophetic Judaism
of the all-inclusive loving Gospels.
Christians, Jews, and perhaps especially Islamic-terrified,
must comprehend
and resist
and declaim any notion that Republican Nationalist WeWin-SoYouLose ecopolitics
is anything less than anti-Messianic WeWin-OnlyIf YouAlsoWin,
which is co-redemptive,
global,
ecologically healthy,
ecopolitics.

The democratization of globalizing love
is a huge history of spiritual experience,
communication for regeneration,
regeneration for ecological reconnecting,
again and again and again
Earth’s health with anthrocentric ‘pure’ and ‘loyal’ wealth.

To call the cult of fundamentalist WinLose nationalistic patriotism
“evangelistic Christianity”
is idolatrous elitism
taking out a promising contract against healthy human nature
to hit absolute zero bulls-eye bottom-line
LoseLose absence of syncretic supremacy,
promise to anti-prophetically gloat about absent-mindedly fiddling
while Earth burns;
declaring our vast anti-all-others absence of hope
for continuing climates of regenerative health
in the face of degenerating climate pathologies.

If you are familiar with the Wharton School,
as is Donald Trump
and his considerable too-glutonous billionaire CEO companions,
then you would probably know
you can slap a lipstick index
on a chauvinistic pig
of an elitist Winner-Take-All national economy,
but it will not really look, or work, any better,
and certainly won’t taste any healthier
or purer
or more loyal,
or even tangentially patriotic,
in historic prophetic hindsight.

Civilizing Savages

I stumbled over Paul Tillich’s translation
of the MessiahMentor’s Other Great Commission.

The Great Commission we learned in Sunday School
was to go out and convert the barbarians
and savages to Christianity.

Yet this Other Great Commission feels like a necessary prerequisite,
like requiring Statistics 1
before wandering on into the further abstractions of trending probabilities
and improbabilities
that savages could become barbarians
and barbarians become civilizations
of savage-barbarians
as uncovered in Statistics 2.

Tillich’s version of St Matthew (5:48) reads
“You must be all-inclusive as your heavenly Father is all-inclusive.”

Jesus has been exegeting perfect love
as favorably contrasted against not-so-perfect love,
and the conclusion summarizes with
YHWH as the perfection of all-inclusive love,
so this is also our civilizing humaning-divining destiny,
this perfect all-inclusiveness,
which would seem to necessarily include
the nature worshipping savages
and the MightMakesRight barbarians
within us all.

But, what I wonder,
from my presumably partially redemptive civilized perspective,
is how could becoming all-inclusive perfection of love
be anything less than taught by God the LogosHeavenly Father
and mentored by Goddess the MythosEarthly Mother?
These two faces of one co-arising nondual all-inclusive love
of the hunters and gatherers,
the MightMakesRight Patriarchal
and the Cooperative Matriarchal barbarians,
and the strong-masculine/nurturing-regenerative-flow
civilizing as creolizing LeftYang bodyminds
and RightYin mindbodies.

To perceive oneself as one of the holy civilized
rather than barbaric unwashed
seems to deny the endemic creolization,
adaptation,
adoption,
co-opting,
extracting from what was before
that is the matriarchal-cooperative nutritional stuff
of a nurturing emergent co-acclimating civilization.

To comprehend myself as patriarchal/matriarchal civilizing
speaks first to becoming all-inclusive mentor of love,
including all the YangNature and YinSpirit
of my barbaric heritage,
remembering adolescent hormonal waves of supremacy v intimacy,
and embracing my own TerribleTwos savagery;
I must eat when I am hunger,
drink when I am thirst,
sleep when I become tired of all Other.

This perfection of all-inclusive bicameral love
emerges the first clue how to share good co-redemptive news
to be found within every holonic tradition,
every ergodic rhythmed transition
of which we are each a necessary,
but never autonomously sufficient, part,
in our savage through bicamerally civil maturation,
mutual-creolizing acclimation.

as holonic is statically exclusive of partiality.
A process (progress, evolution)
in which every sequence
(stage, regenerative frame, co-acclimating development)

is equally representative of the whole
(as in all-inclusive holiness).

that any dynamic state (stage, regenerating frame) will recur

Here, only, lies time invested embodying Christ’s Original Intent
more than merely competitively spent,
exhausted in WinLose unredemptive gamesmanship;
exhausting monoculturing climates
of overheated adolescent State-commodified Ego’s
shaded quasi-independent hypocrisy–
as if this part of Christ’s Body would better go it patriotically alone,
playing an internally cancerous
LoseLose
nihilistic
terrorizing and fear-mongering,
condemning and disingenuously pathological game.

We either live and die together as One Body of Earth’s Christ,
or we die by living too de-sacralized
desecrated
decomposing
degeneratively apart.

Purest MindBody of Christ could never become full-integrally optimized
as and with merely humane nature;
sacred EarthNature integrates all God the Father’s living systems
until disintegrating into decomposing no-growth,
former-fertile systems.

No coherent
rational
healthy Body of Christ organic system could long lack,
or survive de-valuing, co-empathically trusting integrity.
And, no system,
regardless of how loyal to its own MindBody of Christ virginal chastity of good faith,
could thereby regenerativey thwart co-emerging degenerative potential,
seeds of our own too purely autonomous
disenculturated
AntiBody of Christ degenerating destruction.

Could we have Body of Christ robust forests,
with interdependent holonic nutritional root systems,
without Earth’s therapeutic surfing oceans?
Oceans, without pure yet integral sacred atmosphere?
Holy Spirit of Christ’s HealthyWealthy Climates,
without root systemic cooperative ecopolitical nutrition-systems?

No more could we have humane MindBody of Christ integrative nature
without Earth’s Messiah-CoArising sacred ecology,
birthplace of Christ’s organic-cooperative reason.

Now you’re remembering the best part.
Let’s go for a long walk outside.
Listen to the birds and the wind,
the ocean and the trees,
watch for clouds,
look for stars and moon light.

I see.
Time to clear our Body of Christ neural-sensory palette?

Time to watch for,
and listen to,
other forms and sounds and hues and cries,
liturgies of co-redemptive worship.

PolyPathic Political Populace

In another millennial time and Chinese/Russian place,
Taoism began as aphorisms and poetry
about political philosophy,
articulating a bicameral tension
between Conservative Yangers,
patriarchal universalist ego empire builders,
and Unitarian Progressive Yinners, WinWinners,
a matriarchal cooperative
polypathic
multicultural
integrative network of nurturers,
(the longer the list of adjectives and adverbs,
the less important history would prove us to become cooperatively disintegrated)
empty of any sectarian-deductive labeling,
and supremacist framing, function.

Hence, everyone knows the principles of InterdependentYang and EmptyYin,
and usually metaphorically associate them with Male and Female,
and Positive and Negative,
yet few have economically and/or politically defined
the governing power of Tao.
We have the Tao of most everything,
without necessarily being clear about what the label Tao
adds to most anything.

In another millennial time and New England and Baltimore place,
Reverend Channing proposed to replace the Holy Trinity
with God the LeftBrain Dominant patriarchal EgoFather[Mother],
with universalist regenerative credentials of deduced historic effectiveness,
and the RightBrain Unitarian matriarchal OverSoul
of Grace
and Flow
and Karma
and Princess (0)-Sum Prime Relational Energy
of ecoconscious integrative potential,
all four nondual sisters co-arising cooperatively together
in ecopolitical health
and bicameral safety Paradise
of DNA with RNA Solidarity in fractal-nutritional seasons
with reasons of regenerative health,
Original Tao Intent.

Or, something LeftBrain Universal God
and RightBrain OverSoul EcoConscious Unitarian
like Yang Ego discontinuous competitions
with Yintegral EcoIntegrity CoOperative Networking
and WinLose evolutionary model of mutual degeneration
with WinWin ecological model of regenerativity.

It is this Unitarian 0-sum RightBrainBody OverSoul
that Reverend Julian Jaynes explores
as how we are prodigal son and daughter and transgender Egos,
and OverSoul Atman PolyPaths of EcoConsciousness,
Prodigal Unitarians
progressing Ego health and safety Conservationism,
played WinWin with LeftBrain ego-centric
ecological discernment of optimally cooperative evolution
rather than BusinessAsUsual LeftBrain idolatry
of competitive capitalistic revolutions,
and concomitant WinLose violence
in the name of peacemaking,
and pathological lack of long-term consciousness
in the name of climates and landscapes of and for healthy freedom,
optimally self-liberating safety,
nurturance,
regenerativity,
polypathic integrity.

“…[T]here is something else to be observed
as you study your own [prodigal bicameral] nature.
It is a something of supreme importance….
Suppose you observe [several of ego-you] in your daily consciousness,
now one,
now the other
asserting itself in thought and behavior;
who is it,
let us ask,
who is it
or what is it
that does the observing?”

Polypathic ecoconsciousness
of time’s flow,
regenerative and too often chaotically Left-Right dissonant.

“Are you not conscious of still another [Elder RightBrain] self,
larger and more inclusive than the others,
that seems to be standing outside watching them,
counting them,
criticizing them,
applauding them?”

OverSoul,
Atman,
holonic matriarchally cooperative face
of Father Patriarch LeftBrain.
Brahma is Tao of Gaia.

“Who is it that wonders?”

Which God and/or Goddess do you most idolize
as RightBrain BiCameral OverSoul?

“There are times when you fall so completely into the possession of one of these smaller selves [Ego-ideals],
that you lose all consciousness of the one [Earth-Matriarchal ReGenerator] watching outside.
It is only afterward that the presence of the [Gaia-Climate OverSoul] watcher

A rational matriarchal Gaia theistic belief
in an Original ReGenerative Source
could be both theologically universalist
with regard to root source of divine intelligent ecopolitical empowerment,
and teleologically secular-unitarian
with regard to evolutionary Omega Point
of humane polypathic healthy,
wealthy,
and rationally co-mentoring abundance.

Both history and science,
our own eyes and ears,
remind us phylogeny is polypathic
across both DNA and RNA branches
of our regenerative tree of life.

So it is our Earth’s systemic ecology is polyculturally progressing
across all economic/political nutritionally positive/positronic relationships.

In this post-millennial time in Gaia’s growing climate pathology,
Tao means Conserve/Progress ecopolitical healthy climates
of positive cooperative regenerativity,
resonantly inside as reiteratively outside,
below as above
before Space as after Time
positive as double-binding negative
Yang as YinYin
WinWin (0)-sum PolyPathic Prodigality.

Julian Jaynes quotes are from his “Coming to One’s Self” homily, published in Magic Wells: Sermons…, 1922.  As noted in prior pieces, I read Reverend Jaynes’s theology through his psychologist son, Julian Jaynes, who wrote a seminal evolutionary theory of bicameral consciousness development, very much in synchronicity with Gregory Bateson’s concept of Sacred Ecology.

Touched by Kindness

An outrageously warm full moon
radiates above my roof
across our yard,
my face and mind,
reminding me Earth’s nature can and must sometimes feel kind
if last week’s hurricane of snow felt unkind
to aging joints and internal family tensions.

My Taoist roots remain disarticulated on this theme.
Controversy of dissonant and alien natures cannot be kind
because Earth is not kind.
Yet too often taught,
I feel this full moon glow across my tearing mind,
that nature is unkind
and so it is our nature to compete to survive,
rather than cooperate to thrive,
along with all Earth’s Golden Ruling creatures
and ecosystems.

And yet this narrative,
left removed from other half,
distorts who we are sometimes,
who I am at my best and healthiest,
and least competitive dissonance,
because in 0-sum Taoist nondual co-arising philosophy,
where there is an unkind Yang
there must also be a kind Yin
or how would we know anything of kindness,
positive or negative opposition,
yang both/and yin apposition
full regenerative kindness and empty unkind promise.

This warm January moon will darkly empty,
yet fill again
to touch my heart,
our hearts,
with Earth’s kind and healthy Promise.
