Untimely Silence

Most folks I loved
died when I was in my thirties.
Not just people,
but our San Francisco bohemian mecca lifestyle,
our 365 days and nights celebration
turned into an epidemic of waiting
and watching
and mourning our losses,
wondering about possibilities of survival.

What could remain for us,
for me,
for this place?
What could become my purpose
our purpose
for any lonely future of diaspora survivors?

My closest friend,
a happily married matriarch
with two adolescent children,
died of breast cancer
when I was in my early forties.

Perhaps this was my final straw.
I have not reconstructed any friendships since.

This reminds me of my maternal grandfather,
who lived into his eighties
but as his quantity of years continued
his quality of celebrated convivial life shrank
through loss of two wives
and all their friends,
his generation of neighbors,
and then his hearing.

He told me
not long before he passed
he was not sure
if his loss of hearing was a curse
or a blessing,
prohibiting him from cultivating renewing friendships
only to be lost yet again.

My own hearing is not perfect
yet I seem unwilling to listen
for any more friends,
loved ones I could no better afford to lose
than those already gone.

Yet still I wonder
about therapeutic reasons for my survival.
As fertile celebrations fade to dusty memory,
my capacity to comprehend why I still breathe,
yet my generation of intentional families has long passed,
shrunk to incomprehensible mystery
as did my revered grandfather’s hearing.

The best I can hear,
through this epidemic distance,
I rescued by adoption
then by love
four hurt children
no one else wanted,
and each continues teaching me how to love hims and her,
when I listen well,
in their distinctive needy ways and broken means.

Yet even here
with these final four
I night sweat in guilty worry
about how they could best thrive
when I can, at last,
no longer hear them,
nor they me.

Most folks I loved
died when I was young,
leaving me to wonder
severed prospects for survival.

History of Mean Economists 404

This course will encourage aspiring cooperative economists
to distinguish between mean national incomes
and global median incomes,
with diverse long-term capital growth/evaporation trends
expected.

First,
imagine USA mean income, including investment income,
could approach $500,000 for two-parent working households
per year.

Are you kidding me?
Where do you come up with those numbers?
And that many full-time working two-parent households?

Out of my mean Republican National Party imagination.
If you imagine
as many households with earned and investment income
of $1,000,000 per year
as there are destitute households
with $0 earned/investment income,
and the remainder of us lie
evenly along straight
or even bell-curved symmetrical lines
between $0 and $1,000,000,
then USA mean annual household income
could be imagined as $500,000 per two-parent household.

Well, maybe…OK,
for the sake of this thought experiment.
So what does that have to do with the price of carrots?

Cost of living,
with or without carrots,
is more of a Democratic National Party issue
where we turn to how trickle down capital acquisition and flow patterns,
including reinvesting and relocating in cheaper labor-saving areas,
are more depressingly influenced by median income,
as compared to this more mean-spirited average US two-parent income.

In other words,
when Republicans imagine which economic policies
are within their realm of self interest,
they imagine themselves at least average,
or above, even better,
so when candidates promise lower taxes
and deregulating fees
for business and farm and patriotic industries
of all good two-heterosexual parent families,
Republican voters imagine such candidates
speak also of and for them
because they see their incoming as at least potentially
within responsible sight of this average earned
and investment returned
income,
and preferably above all those unwashed immigrant indigent others.

But,
the Democratic National Party,
in its most globally liberating green best center,
speaks not of mean economic incomes,
but of the growing and depressing distance
between average national income
and shrinking median global income.

Median.
That’s the most popular number, right?
Like if more households bring in $30,000 per year,
than $29,000 or below
or $31,000 or above,
on a scale from $0 to increasingly astronomical,
then the median would remain $30,000.
But, the average could be lower or higher,
depending on whether there are greater positive deviations from the median
or more totally disintegrating deviations
down toward zero-sum,
you lose everything,
go directly to jail,
do not even think about passing through Go again.

Yes.
So if you are a median democratic global economist
you are noticing
as the number of billionaires goes up,
the gap between average income and median income grows
in an alarmingly unhealthy direction,
the opposite of erection,
or even self-with-other regeneration.

If this growing great transitional divide
between our really big winners
and our truly transient and hopelessly non-transcendent
is trending in this politically depressing uneven direction,
why is that?

Because competition-rooted WinLose zero-sum Capitalism
follows successful acquisition of capital
to breed further disproportionate acquisition of capital.
Cooperative-owned and self-matriculating WinWin
trickle down and out
to equilaterally trickle up and in
to re-trickle down and out
requires a bilateral WinWin
self and other regenerative equivalent balance co-intention
more typical of a matriarchal mentoring nutritional cooperative network
than a patriarchal mean economist
wanna-be an effective open market
mutually free to monoculturally overpower the hapless competition
player.

Well I was taught
if you don’t want to share your toys
you should never have brought them into the sandbox.

That sounds like global median ecopolitical enculturation.
I was taught
if somebody tries to borrow your toys,
hit back.
More of a sandbox bully anti-culturation.

Imagine how this capitalist sandbox must look
to a hungry and thirsty adolescent survivor
living in one of Earth’s growing ecopolitical deserts,
watching further climate pathologies
unfold across hopeless skies
and swelling tsunamic oceans.

I thought this was Mean Economics 404.

Yes, but it sounds more hopeful

Trickling Down and Out Theories

Those of us living in the USA
too often hear Republican capitalist dogma
of The Great Trickle Down Theory,
in which those who have most
must get more first
so they can hire more who have least,
although perhaps not with living wage
and preferably without health care if at all feasible,
to spread this centralizing wealth around
so we can become better day and night consumers
of all the thneeds and trinkets offered in exchange
for our enslaving rented lives.

And so it was with raised eyebrows
I heard Donald Trump explain
to us unwashed and un-self-insuring masses,
that he paid so very little income taxes
because it is his sacred duty
to himself
his family
and his stockholders
and incorporated co-investors
to pay as little tax and operating fees as legally possible
so there is more to hoard,
and less and less to trickle out.

So, I guess this carries some tension
with Trickle Down,
becoming, more accurately,
The Not-So-Great Trickling Out Theory
of richest capitalist hoarding.

But, just in case you are listening, Donald,
which I know you are not,
but maybe some more responsible Republican employer,
I am quite sure that Wharton never spoke this lie
that you have any legal, much less moral, obligation
to retain as much wealth as possible
to re-invest in further corporate greed
to act as little trickling out as possible
while speaking in loud nationalistic patriotic
Trickle Down and Out!
to all us little people,
sometime,
preferably after this year’s self-congratulatory pay out,
made possible by all us humble caregivers
opening your doors for tips
and cleaning your several stressed toilets,
where only yellow and brown
too slowly trickle down.

Who would argue
about which came first,

These verses are about the importance of [light/dark] perception;
we may say even [healthy] attitude.

If my faculty of observation,
whether of the world,

of other people,
