Thanksgiving for Independence Days

Among PermaCulture Designers,
planners and cooperative schemers,
choreographers and mappers,
therapeutic lyricists and historical poets,
and probably comedians,
there is a saying,
a principle of experiential truth:
For every healthy function
we discover many nutritional elements.

This has to do with commitment,
most resonantly shared with GaiaEarth,
to invest in polycultural multi-enculturing functions
to disinvest away from monoculturing
monopolistic pathologies of hubris,
a human environment supremely out of balance
with humane cooperative intent.

An important cultural health function in the U.S.,
as in other enriching societies,
is celebration.

Celebration is a health function
with many memorial and traditional elements.

Two of these celebrations
are in creative tension within U.S. cultural revolutions:
Thanksgiving Day and Independence Day.

Thanksgiving is healthy
and draws on elements of gratitude
grace
Earth and life as sacred ecological relationship,
as our shared evolutionary history
rooted in cooperative nurturing elements.

Independence,
like liberty and freedom,
is also healthy
and draws on elements of revolution,
too easily violent and emphatic disagreements
about redistribution of power and wealth
from royalist plutocratic homes
to mutually cooperative democratic co-investment networks
thankful for this new opportunity
to grow both Thanksgiving cooperation
and often-competitive WinLose crises
on thresholds of new-found Independence Days,
not possible to resolve
without dominance of interdependent Thanksgiving WinWin celebration,
memorials of Earth’s bounty
inviting humane benign parasites of Independence
from Earth’s other native elements,
back into more grateful abundance
through interdependent health functions
of more polyculturally empowering Thanksgiving.

Gratitude warmly embraces growing less defensively reactionary
about our grown-too-nationalistic and egotistic elitist
Independence Days.

To optimize health functions of Thanksgiving
and Independence,
Earth invites us to remember how ecosystems
create these two co-arising intentions together,
as root systems of multiculturing grace
interdependently flower mutually-held and celebrating
Independence Days
with ecopolitics cooperatively-owned and self-governed
liberty for all
capable of reweaving
Earth’s WinWin Thanksgiving Day supremacy
of healthy democracy for maintaining cooperative ecology
rather than over feeding wealth-hoarding plutocracy,
wherein every day is entitled to Christmas gifts
without the gratitude of a healthy Thanksgiving child.

While it is possible to celebrate Independence Day
each in our own King George throne room
and firing-up our own gated backyard grills
of me-first red meat,
Thanksgiving Day more patriotically invites
a table large enough
for all us native creolizing waves of immigrants
to give thanks for all Earth’s healthy gifts
brought together by these
grace-filling
nutritional polyculturing elements.

Ecological Imperative

Ecologists seem more aware
than economic and political scientists
and capital and democracy leaders of state investments,
of the remarkable multi-functionality of natural systems,
like trees,
and river valleys
and their forests
with canopies of shade
enlightened from above by sun,
glimmered by moon and starlight,
creating energy,
nutrition,
predators and prey, but also beauty,
health and pathology,
feeding and bleeding co-invested systems
of interdependent relationships.

While multi-functionality of organic systems
is a complicated array of niches,
these are not just the economist’s consumer market niches
or just producers of goods and bads through labor,
through both WinLose and WinWin Games,
but more like all of the above.

This comes to mind
because as I have earned the perspective
of multi-functioning economic and political decades,
as both consumer and producer,
I have also noticed that polarized U.S. elected officials,
especially those working in, or even near,
our infamous District of Columbia,
have reduced the citizenry
to producers of tax revenues and votes,
expecting to consume diminishing returns
of peace and justice,
to expect Business As Usual,
a drought of functionality,
dwindling absence of Constitutionally protected returns
for health
happiness
and mutually cooperative prosperity.

Ecologists
and other health v pathology students,
learn to become more aware of the reciprocal,
perhaps even contagious,
relationships between producers giving care
and consumers receiving healthy care.

I don’t see many elected folks
working and living in our public sector
burning the midnight oil
pondering together
how to become more multi-functional care-givers
and care-receivers,
which requires cooperation more
and competition for votes and tax dollars less.

As a wanna-be culture of healthy ecopolitics,
we are too capital-mesmerized
by our own recent investment histories
in unhealthy pathologies,
driven to capture what’s left of value
on the verge of a no longer merely impending
humane energy production descent,
choking on our own culture of BadNews
competing consumer markets of polarizing pathology.

If economists and political scientists
and dipolar ecopolitical practitioners
like me
and you
and our families,
and our communities,
and our States,
and our Nations,
and our anthro-centric global population
were to burn what’s left of the midnight oil
discerning together this basic functionality
of balancing consumer markets for health and happiness
and producer forces and contagious flows
for cooperative wealth thereof,
WinWin Both-And options only,
like forest systems of democratic trees,
and other living, breathing cultures of Earth’s health,
I wonder if the return on our votes and tax investments
in mutual-care receiving
may pay off more robustly,
resonantly,
cooperatively,
organically,
permaculturally,
ecologically,
not quite so pathologically
polarized WinLose competitions.

Summer of ’67

My canopy of early summer sounds
in 1967
was as intimate as adolescent knowledge
might ever become.

My sixteenth summer
sweetly smiled with driver’s permit,
my first job,
economic promise while the Beach Boys
and the Beatles sang a rainbow
of boy band diversity,
sang stories of straight white male revolutions,
evolutions of June firefly evenings
resounding bullfrog and cricket background vocals
on our family farm,
where good Christian Republicans
longed for good old Eisenhower years
when Father was wise
and always knew best,
and Vietnam was no more than an acrid draft
of wasted social
financial
political
environmental
nutritional capital,
not yet fully present.

This summer of 1967
was when I knew both anguish of embodied defeat,
hopelessly homosexual,
an yet poignancy of emerging mystical wonder
about what this could mean
fifty years from now.

I could not help fantasizing
how Paul and Art
might not only sing,
but dance, in poignant harmonies.

And,
as much as I laughed and loved and longed
to hear Stevie Wonder wondering
and Otis Redding wanting,
Marvin Gaye worshiping,
I so wished they could sound even better
with me.

Joni Mitchell
and Joan Baez
and Judy Collins,
like John Lennon,
were compelled to write and speak and sing
songs of love as freedom
growing transcendent
yet deeply fertile
Aquarian promise.

A promise bombed out
by uncivil wars
bound by fear of egocentered failure.
Fear our parents,
and half of my junior year classmates,
found compelling enough to throw away dollars
to build and buy
and transport
and explode bombs and bullets and boys,
nearly oblivious to hundreds of thousands of innocent men
and mothers
and children wiped out
by a mere strategic choice
to cover partisan ass
as the biggest baddest bully
on Earth’s shrinking block.

I didn’t blame him,
but when I called James Taylor
to rescue the Johnson and Nixon White Houses,
he did not come,
as promised,
to rescue me,
to remind us about our friend and family connections
across cosmic time
and Earth’s regenerate space.
A great ballad was just not enough.

In June of ’67
I was singing both “I Believe”
and “Love is Blue”
with equally honest passion
and thriving off a translucent vulnerable cover song
between these two impossibly incommensurable positions,
surrounded by straight evangelical predators,
sniffing for pinko faggot weakness.

I was so guilty
yet so in love with rightness
and ripeness
of my generation’s possibilities
for revolutionary integrity,
drawing together economic health
with political wealth
in some new golden ruling age
of relentlessly cooperative incorporation
and association
and ownership
and self-governance.

In this early summer of 1967
Martin and Bobby still walked with us
and one still dreamed he might see
someone who looked and thought and felt like him
as President one day
and the other I dreamed would become President
while I was still a high school junior.

So much devastation and disappointment followed.
It took at least a decade
and hundreds of thousands of human lives
treated like conscripted fodder
for nationalistic hubris of false pride
to arrive at the very treaty
our Vietnamese opponents had originally demanded.
And long before anyone from the U.S.
had been drafted and killed
for this offensive cause
of nationalistic non-defense.

Other health care and defense abuses
and losses
followed.
Neglect of women’s health.
Pedagogical loss of children’s deep ecological listening opportunities
to nondually co-arise with Earth’s polyphonic voices,
resources of multiculturing nutrition.

Yet I have these summer of ’67 memories
when,
for one diastatic season,
my revolutionary age on planet Earth
stood between despair of guilt
for what and whom I could never become
and celebrating hope for joy
of what we might yet reweave
timelessly singing and dancing
chanting and drumming
revolutioning and evolutioning together.

Victories for Love

The problem of military reactions
to territorial control issues
is not merely that violence breeds further strategic development
of violence,
although this is no small,
nor amoral,
concern.

This primal problem of militarism by historic default
is that it is an intrinsically violent chapter
in the Big RedBook of Capitalism,
rooted in God created elite might right.

Notice the tools we make and buy for soldiers.
Compare these to tools in the Peace Corp.
These tell the very different problem-solving environments
found in authority to take life
rather than responsibility to share life.

And which of these feels sacred?
And which feels evil?
Whether a necessary evil or not,
still evil is not an amoral enculturation choice
over presumably weaker sacred options.

Our problem with birthing and raising nations
is similar to growing healthy mammalian babies.
Violent authority-based relationships
and love nurturing responses
and nutritional responsibilities
grow viral within individuals,
families,
tribes,
systems,
populations,
species,
climates and landscapes of planets.

Yet it is a relativistic mistake,
a compromising error,
to believe WinLose choices
rather than WinWin co-responsive options
are merely strategic architectures,
without moral implications,
heritage,
and projections for growing more democratic love
or degenerating further violence,
the true capital investment returns
for choosing to spread one’s dominant authority
rather than cooperative EarthCentering responsibilities.

The U.S. democratic-intended Constitution,
and Amendments,
were born of both love for this people
and this place,
this sacred land,
developed in a new responsibility,
a New OldWorld opportunity
to grow a multiculture of healthy inclusive love,
yet also born of hate for Royalist elitism,
capital-hoarding
supported by threat of military violence
authorized by right of a Crown
not made by merely human hands
but, yes, made by cowed human minds,
resulting in often exploited backs and legs
and arms
races and racism,
including conscription
of the darkest and poorest first,
creating a new nationalistic suppressed generation
in toxic patriarchal authorities to take foreign life
because of something larger
bigger
more Yang-significant and dominant
than risks of our own Yin-lives individually lost,
implying authorities to incriminate lives of brothers and sisters,
to deprive healthy lives to enemies of the State,
now become a God of CapitalHoarding Revenge,
a jealous rich god of royal elitism,
gone viral with madness.

The U.S. is a continuing experiment
in these double-binding addictions
to love’s responsibilities toward WinWin democratic resolutions,
and violations of cooperative authority
devolving toward further WinLose reiterations
of suboptimizing health-wealth strategies,
as if positive love morality of cooperation
could ever be normatively set-aside
for double-negatives of hating foreign fathers
and violating their heathen wives
as merely sexual property.

Rather Old School,
Old Testament,
Old History
this military-industrious
violent authority to defend capitalism’s dominance,
a perennial contagion
we spread through using younger bodies
as slaves for mutual slaughter
rather than investing in cooperative Peace Warriors
equipped with more permacultural loving tools
like trees
and solar panels,
cell phones
and seeds for regenerativity.

A history of democratic love
is born and maintained at home
through developing cultures of healthy care-receiving and giving,
certainly including a federal mandate for universal health care,
but not just for U.S. tax payers;
for all Earth’s lives,
our native Elders,
without whom we never could have arrived
at this opportunity
to choose contagious climates of health
over toxic addictions to further WinLose climates
of capital-hoarding violence
within and between brothers and sisters,
matriarchal cousins
extending cooperative family co-gendering trees
back through 0-sum spacetime,
prehistoric polypathic dipolar love.

And yet I can hear Puritan foundations,
evangelical voices
responding ex-gospel cathedra:
We still cling to our Jealous God
of and for White Heterosexual Male Dominant Idolatry
with rights of capital-invested might
to violently defend our self-entitling righteous beliefs.

Yet, this Jealous YHWH,
I AM THAT I AM,
supremacist shouts more commandingly
only in our Older Testament.
Jesus knows Abba
whose ultimate property is regenerative love,
a property you also believe in
as New Testament GoodNews Gospel.

This is where love’s ecopolitical responsibilities emerge,
evolve as morally higher and better and deeper rooted
than simplistic Old School violent revenge
of royal-supreme Elites.

Again I hear evangelists
and false prophets of violent revolutions
against secular humanism
shouting with spit-flying emphasis:
We must not believe in God’s evolution
as this is a view incompatible
with God’s Original Creation Revolution
of planet Earth
and Her atmospheric Universe.

Your theological and emotional health problems
are all the New Testament scriptural evidence
that Jesus the Jewish Son
clearly does believe in messianic love’s evolution,
from Vengeance Is Mine!
to God is multiculturing contagion of creative love,
and not at all Old School RoyalState-Capitalist
military violence addiction.

If you see love of revolving regenerativity,
wealth of health opportunities
as weaker than violently vengeful WinLose monoculturing risks,
this view is not much Christ-like.
Had God invited your birth and maturation
prior to 1776,
you might well have felt compelled
by fear of King George’s righteous royal entitlement.

Christian Elitists
are not what mainstream political U.S. culture
has ever labeled as truly patriotic or even native American,
in any historical senses of native as naturalized,
enspirited,
and most emphatically not
what either Republicans or Democrats
would consider patriotic
promise of a national evolving culture of healthy wealth
today
for regenerate health tomorrow.

Health Loss WarGames

As I transitioned from high school
to the University of Michigan,
one of the leading national health and safety issues
was painfully violent loss of Vietnamese and U.S. lives,
and hundreds of thousands hurt,
maimed for life,
if only on our now insane war-torn insides.

President Nixon
and his Secretary of State
Henry Kissinger,
when pushed by my peers
to get out now,
once and too often said
“I don’t disagree with you
as to the wisdom of our original involvement,
but we cannot leave in a way that would cause dishonor,
loss of credibility…”

My own Republican parents seemed to agree.
What they and Nixons and Kissingers could not hear
was our morally imperative challenge:
We agree with each other,
and with our most patriotic ForeFathers
and ForeMothers,
and our Vietnamese and U.S. grandmothers,
as to the health hazards and unsafe indefensible original involvement
in shooting each other
to continue not resolving legitimate economic and political issues.

Because of these historical precedents
to procure and protect mutual health,
happiness,
and prosperity,
we cannot stay in Vietnam
in a way that would cause even further dishonor,
loss of health and dwindling wealth credibility…”
political credibility
ecological credibility,
just plain rational credibility,
or even both Left and Right sacred integrity.

It saddens me to hear,
as my children are now of about that same adolescent
through young adult time,
vulnerable to full health care choices
accessible only for those with deepest pockets,
to hear Republican leaders
responding to recent overdue Affordable Care actions
with:
“I don’t disagree with you
as to the wisdom of health and safety
original constitutional intent,
but we must leave behind Democratic Obamacare
improvements toward this sacred federal mandate
or dishonor our partisan public disservice,
and further muddy our loss of credibility.”

Again,
they are not listening
to voices for secular health
and sacredly defended safety of all lives:
We all,
Republicans and Democrats,
U.S. and non-U.S. residents
with democratically cooperative original constitutional intent,
must not remain the only wealthy nation
without a clear culture of health federal mandate
to protect economic
and ecological
and physical
and mental health
and safety of all lives,
now,
and those yet to come,
or we will continue to bring dishonor upon ourselves,
and an even longer pathological history
of decreasing global credibility,
not just among humane nature
but with
and for
and of all Earth’s health-wealth optimizing natures.

Dear Donald, Again

I fear you cast yourself in lights too grand
and powerful.

Is it not enough
to acknowledge this legal investigation
of whether you have intended to use your limited powers
for obstructing justice,

equity?

Special Suffrage

Since our most recent U.S. Presidential non-selection,
for one thing a Trumpian could not become
is therapeutically presidential,
I have become worried about our democratic suffrage.

Perhaps only mothers, or maybe also fathers,
of kids with special vulnerability needs
should be allowed to vote,
or perhaps each and all allowed to vote,
but only special needs parents to vote twice.

With each vote cast,
whether one or two,
this vote is cast for healthy futures
wealthiest nutrients imaginable
for future generations with increasingly special climate needs.

It may take a special mom,
a compassionately vulnerable dad,
to truly see each child has special needs
to regenerate toward full strength wealth of health
accessible to those born harmed
by an increasingly rabid ecopolitics
of every man for himself
(and also women and children, if and as time allows)
in a Might Makes Triage Right evolving world
of actively distrusting revolutions
between aristocrats who harvest power
and special needs kids
who, by comparison, harvest not,
and never ever will.

Unless, or course,
we might conquer democratic potential
and original intent
by electing candidates whose primary experience
of electoral special needs value
are WinWin outcomes as moms,
and maybe even dads,
of kids with climate healthing special needs
well met
suffrage through discontent.

In This Taoist’s View

Could we be doing our best
to invest in Earth’s cooperative health markets?
While you sell our most competitive killing machines
to our Saudi Arabian cousins.

Referencing this touchstone as an ecopolitical WinWin,
unlike Parisian multicultural investments in climate health,
as LoseLose,
remains upside down of any truly love-life frame.

Ballistic sales and buys are tragic ecopolitical failures
as are our hugely nihilistic military markets,
fueled by political-nationalistic fear-mongering,
anti-life and hope
could only cynically be seen and heard
much less smelled and felt
as WinWin success.
Bombs stink.

One hundred and ten billion dollars
for purveyors of future death and destruction
to, and around, Saudi Arabia
seems somewhat against climates of health
as compared to Parisian international agreements
to do our best
to turn from investments in further disinvesting death pathologies
to return toward climates
and ecopolitical landscapes of health’s wealthier
more robust and resonantly multiculturing
WinWin outcomes.

We have no prospects for wins that are truly anthro-economic
that are anti-ecologic.

Wealth blossoms from healthy roots.
It is not smart to try to plant and sell your roses upside down.

In Taoism,
and other zero-centric disciplines
and art-forms,
such as statistical trend analysis
and Permaculture Design
and Game Theory,
every position has its dipolar apposite;
every static implies a dynamic hypostatic,
as Yang implies apposition Yin,
as masculine strength implies feminist-matriarchal nurture,
embryonic wombed conservancy.

If God is love,
then also fear delineates God’s and Earth’s omnipotent boundaries
for therapeutic health.

Some would say love’s opposite is hate,
but here more resonant appositional contrast is ecstasy,
Eastern interdependent consciousness of bliss,
Western polypathy of experiential and logosed trans-paradigmatic wisdom,
as fear can distrust into chronic hate
so love can trust transcendent polyculturing ecstasies.

Climate health
is also about absence of climate pathology
which could lead to multiculural ecstasies,
Martin L. King, Jr’s BeLoved Communities,
resonant harmonies
of zero-sum ecopolitics.

But, we must choose love
for synergetic cooperative economics
rather than fear-mongering WinLose ballistic arms
for racing racism
for gender-commodifying sexism,
for cooperative capital reducing reductive capitalism
for substituting economism for ego/eco-systemic logic;
bring on more Left with Right
for less Left against Right,
bring on YangJustice with YinurturingPeace
Love with delineating Fear of Ego/Eco-Loss
of any regenerative future markets
of all-consumer and for all-producing health
as freedom’s wealth.

Religions, all, choose nature-spirit climates of and for sacred love,
health;
so our choices for political landscapes furthering fear
fade away from military industrialized
brother/sister extended hatreds.

We are better than addiction to sale of armaments.
We have learned already
to invest in multiculturing climates and landscapes
and languages
and cultures of and for love.

If love grows our cooperative capacities,
capital investments,
to optimize health as wealth
through each and every multiculturing WinWin
relational and transactional opportunity,
then it is not only a lie replacing Promise
to believe we can democratically point a loaded rifle
at someone’s product of love
within a smaller nationalistic spirit supporting life,

Death sales are also tragically missed opportunities
to further delineate
our polypathic possibilities of and for,
in and through,
before and after,
sacred ecological love,
our shared democratic multiculturingl Promise.

While there are two sides,
at least,
to every healthy resonating story,
the other side veers off
toward dissonate pathologies,
decay and even threats thereof,
paranoia and rabid ritualistic terrors
bipolar eviscerating history
rather than dipolar co-arising her/his-stories.

Every love story
includes its tensioned appositional,
fear of deadly growth
toward hate’s viral histories
of capital gains for aristocratic few
without ecotherapeutically mutual co-investments
in and for mutual freedom’s regenerative return.

We have our love creation stories
with, and happily above,
our fear-commodifying history
of threats and ecopolitical coercion,
capital love abundance
not yet entirely perverted into arcane reductivist capitalism,
supported by even more military industrializing sales
at most until Earth’s oil
then gas
then ballistics defuse our bullets
while jonesing for more cooperatively-owned love comes rushing in.

A Permaculture Designer
might observe we all agree,
Judeo-Christian American,
and Islamic Saudi Arabian,
our mutually beloved Allah-God is 0-core love,
from which all creations positive bright nurtured co-arise
double-binding all imaginations negative
dualdark bipolarities of competing defined exegetical contrasts
with dipolarities cooperating delineating eisegetical comparisons.

No bright white health nutritional trends
without dark black death decompositions
but calling climate health black
and darkdeath-mongering merely not quite unwhite
does not make alternative facts more true,
as trusting polypathic freedoms
to regeneratively optimize love
as and in and of and for
God and Earth’s future cooperative health.

One hundred and ten billion dollars for ballistics
for disinvesting God and Allah and Earth from each LoveOther.
Piracy of truth and goodness
perfidy of healthy trust
of and for future regenerations.
Self impeaching offenses against God and Earth as Love,
sold as cause for international celebration.

I am decidedly not buying.

Why not sell 110 million trees
at $100 each,
or 110 million solar panels?
Why lead off with our most toxic commodity?
It feels like massive failure of democratically healthy imagination,
and curiosity,
and intent toward wealth of therapeutic outcomes.

Is that really what they inappropriately teach
at Wharton School for Healthy Business?

Public Sector Predators

I have lately noticed
WinLose bottom-line business competitors
lead within for-profit rabidly accelerating circles
and are not thereby well prepared
to produce effective robust outcomes
in a more WinWin democratic public service role,
elected or appointed.

I have further noted
general decline of original democratic public servant roles,
revolutionarily replaced by a competing public predator CEO role,
pirating political powers
to better hoard aristocratic economic rewards.

This has been the stuff of history,
fall of Empires,
but also for-profit failing corporations.

It is these latter corporate failures
even beyond more nakedly protected democratic losses,
where authority of position
includes authority to continue employing others
in your jail,
or setting lowly employees free
to market themselves elsewhere,
for democratic enriching profit
or for self-serving quarterly producing profits
for absent short-term disinvested owners
and their equally self-serving managers,
Colossus Trumpians, I suppose,
rather than the old school
public servant model.

Living in a self-seeking climate of growing pathology,
where schools neither mentor nor bother to even lecture
the socially cooperative primacy of mutual service,
grace of gratitude both given and received,
for civic responsibilities growing into interdependent authorities,
nor are parents necessarily skilled leaders
of mutually cooperative WinWin
ecopolitical skill-set development.

For these reasons,
and probably far remedially more,
it seemed right and normal,
good and proper,
that the best cooperatively judicious diplomats
of and for public policies and government procedures,
whether self-governing or also other-governing,
would be those with public servant sector backgrounds,
rather than private predative sector unforgiven foregrounds,
understories of evolutionary Might Makes Right.

Yet this model of competing ruthless leadership
just now appears a Commons lowering denominator
for both public and private sectors,
for more multiculturing cooperative wisdom.

It should be no more a surprise
to a U.S. President
that Presidents do not have unmitigated autonomous powers
of information disclosure
nor of information fabrication,
of energy sharing and conserving
nor of energy hoarding for further self-investing
even further autonomously unmitigated authorities
of revenge and competing egomanias,
than surprise to a CEO
of any healthy cooperatively-managed corporation
where private sector mutual service
and mutually subsidiary authorities
are co-responsibilities of all
who breathe and think maturely,
speak and listen democratically,
with heart beats
both diastatic wealthy
and systolic healthy,
both full and empty of ego/eco-viral powers,
mutually grateful
for all who live and laugh
midway between fully is and yet not yet.

Public private servants,
consuming no more relational powers
than we can individually and collectively reproduce,
replace,
recycle.

Because we elect and normally appoint
Public Servants
based on their prior experience
as Private Predators,
wealth and power accumulating hoarders
at their capital top
bucks stop here
in this pirate place

Note to Paul Ryan

Paul Ryan seems too concerned,
I fear,
that there are those who actively seek to harm
the U.S. President.

While I am among those
who would prefer to live in a nation
that never would have ever elected a Trumpian,
an anti-Lady Liberty Colossus,
this is because we feared he might deliver on his promises,
thereby bringing far more harm upon himself,
and the rest of us,
than we would ever wish
upon our worst enemy.

DT is harming himself quite effectively.
He needs no help with that.
