My Guardian Angel

I suppose,
as a pretentiously self-uberespecting Wise Elder,
I should be alpha-embarrassed to admit
my youngest son,
unable to speak or even sign,
unable to even successfully chew and swallow food,
unable to walk without warm-embraced assistance,
is also my guardian angel.

Without him
I would undoubtedly forget
each day and night
is a re-newing challenge
to laugh with others’ screeching terrors
and shared miseries of sobbing tragedy,
to listen patiently,
maintaining eye contact as best you can,
as long as necessary,
appearing to actually be interested and following,
or, even better,
actually become totally immersed in hearing
resonance and dissonance and timbre,
resolution and irresolution,
rhythm and patterns of song and dancing relationship
and absence of healthy co-relationship,
all before we speak,
or squawk,
as in the case of my guardian angel,

Who also occasionally graces us with shared laughter
about how silly we all are together,
or how great the front porch breeze feels
up against the birdsong.
My nearly egoless zero-sum WinWin mentor,
my youngest sacred graced perfection son.

How would I ever have survived his sister,
who is my Egyptian Princess AlphaPharoah BiPolar Bitch,
in a kind of a Nubian DiPolar Witchy Wu-Wei,
if you know what I mean.
Kind of like living with a five-year-old Donald Trump
if he were also a fifteen-year-old transexual
with bipolar oppositional bitch disorder.

I just read that to my guardian angel.
He didn’t think that was funny,
so I thought I would share it with you,

Two Cultural Feet

David Holmgren
a seminal PermaCultural Designer,
if there ever has become one,
suggests most people throughout Earth
in this age of globally interdependent communication
feel we have one foot planted
in our original local community/family culture,
and the other foot planted in a more comprehensively dominant
economic and political and sociological culture;
but also maybe both feet together co-arise
in our global ecological enculturation.

More of a mindbody hop
than a cognitive one-legged skip.

I grew to the 18-year mark of emancipation
in a conservative fundamentalist
Republican
Michigan family farm industrializing
mid-to-later 1900s
economic and political and sociological
and ecological and anthropological
and psychological and genderological
and extended family farm as forestological
and embryonic wombological culture
both internally adopted
and externally adapting
by trying on my daily
and nightly
enculturations.

As a child
I could not distinguish between internalized enculturation
and external dominant LeftBrain USA-WhiteEnglishOnly culture
because I felt no incipient dissonance
between these two
external Left
and internal Right,
secular ecopolitical and socio-psychological sacred
hemispheres of footedness,
groundedness,
ego/eco-centeredness.

Then I noticed
that the fantasy of partnering with socio-psychological masculinity
rather than ecopolitical femininity–however lovely–
was mesmerizing,
hypnotic,
wondrously awesome,
happiness and Aquarian beauty and bilaterally sexy
and internally right
yet very much externally wrong.

So which was my true local culture
with integrity
and safety
and love
and faith
and trust,
and which was my dominant MidWest
EnglishOnly
White Straight Male Dominant
extending patriarchal farm businessological culture?

It has taken many years
of self-inflicted therapy
to answer that question Both Left-and-Right
Win/Win polypathically healthy,
rather than Either Left-or-Right
Lose short-term to LoseLess long-term pathologically.

Today,
since the 9/11 of 2016,
when nearly half of U.S. voters
chose to vote for our own domestic terrorism
inflicted against both promised rich
and threatened poor,
both hateful and fearful AlienElitist plutocrats
and hated and feared non-fundamentalist
non-white
non-straight
non-male
non-competitive
non-monoculturing
not-sufficiently-domesticated and under-invested
cooperative Left in solidarity with Right Brained democrats,

It is also true,
an alternative majority fact,
if you will,
that slightly over half did NOT vote
to internalize a domestic version
of global fundamentalist terrorism,
against the greater powers
of polypathic Left/Right bilateral love,
against the principles of Zero-Sum WinWin ecopolitical integrity,
from which my own Left-Right extending farm-as-global-forest ecology
was originally spawned
in patriarchal-matriarchal harmony
Yang with Yin, not dissonantly against
Left-RightBrain Ego/Eco inductive bilateral co-intelligence,

Without, so far as I recall,
quite so much RightFooted stomping
and marching
in military-industrialized
Big RedBook of ViolentCapitalism Squares,
where persuasive enculturation begins
at the end of the longest and fattest gun.

ReCreative Tensions

You might believe competitive evolution
also shows potential for cooperative co-creation
because it takes at least two reiterative trends to tangle
and tango.

And your contentment could include polypathic tensions
and intentions
and extensions
seeking further refinement
and smoother flowing
undulating
co-resonant resolutions.

Perhaps all you have implied is a reverse of focus,
from competition as LeftBrain dominant
to invite cooperation as RightBrain co-dominant.

And
you might argue
and I might agree
to adjust our zero-sum core center
is to change almost nothing significant at all
and yet also profoundly reverse everything
within cultures of regenerate-degenerate health
recovering from pathology.

Thanksgiving for Independence Days

Among PermaCulture Designers,
planners and cooperative schemers,
choreographers and mappers,
therapeutic lyricists and historical poets,
and probably comedians,
there is a saying,
a principle of experiential truth:
For every healthy function
we discover many nutritional elements.

This has to do with commitment,
most resonantly shared with GaiaEarth,
to invest in polycultural multi-enculturing functions
to disinvest away from monoculturing
monopolistic pathologies of hubris,
a human environment supremely out of balance
with humane cooperative intent.

An important cultural health function in the U.S.,
as in other enriching societies,
is celebration.

Celebration is a health function
with many memorial and traditional elements.

Two of these celebrations
are in creative tension within U.S. cultural revolutions:
Thanksgiving Day and Independence Day.

Thanksgiving is healthy
and draws on elements of gratitude
grace
Earth and life as sacred ecological relationship,
as our shared evolutionary history
rooted in cooperative nurturing elements.

Independence,
like liberty and freedom,
is also healthy
and draws on elements of revolution,
too easily violent and emphatic disagreements
about redistribution of power and wealth
from royalist plutocratic homes
to mutually cooperative democratic co-investment networks
thankful for this new opportunity
to grow both Thanksgiving cooperation
and often-competitive WinLose crises
on thresholds of new-found Independence Days,
not possible to resolve
without dominance of interdependent Thanksgiving WinWin celebration,
memorials of Earth’s bounty
inviting humane benign parasites of Independence
from Earth’s other native elements,
back into more grateful abundance
through interdependent health functions
of more polyculturally empowering Thanksgiving.

Gratitude warmly embraces growing less defensively reactionary
about our grown-too-nationalistic and egotistic elitist
Independence Days.

To optimize health functions of Thanksgiving
and Independence,
Earth invites us to remember how ecosystems
create these two co-arising intentions together,
as root systems of multiculturing grace
interdependently flower mutually-held and celebrating
Independence Days
with ecopolitics cooperatively-owned and self-governed
liberty for all
capable of reweaving
Earth’s WinWin Thanksgiving Day supremacy
of healthy democracy for maintaining cooperative ecology
rather than over feeding wealth-hoarding plutocracy,
wherein every day is entitled to Christmas gifts
without the gratitude of a healthy Thanksgiving child.

While it is possible to celebrate Independence Day
each in our own King George throne room
and firing-up our own gated backyard grills
of me-first red meat,
Thanksgiving Day more patriotically invites
a table large enough
for all us native creolizing waves of immigrants
to give thanks for all Earth’s healthy gifts
brought together by these
grace-filling
nutritional polyculturing elements.

Health Loss WarGames

As I transitioned from high school
to the University of Michigan,
one of the leading national health and safety issues
was painfully violent loss of Vietnamese and U.S. lives,
and hundreds of thousands hurt,
maimed for life,
if only on our now insane war-torn insides.

President Nixon
and his Secretary of State
Henry Kissinger,
when pushed by my peers
to get out now,
once and too often said
“I don’t disagree with you
as to the wisdom of our original involvement,
but we cannot leave in a way that would cause dishonor,
loss of credibility…”

My own Republican parents seemed to agree.
What they and Nixons and Kissingers could not hear
was our morally imperative challenge:
We agree with each other,
and with our most patriotic ForeFathers
and ForeMothers,
and our Vietnamese and U.S. grandmothers,
as to the health hazards and unsafe indefensible original involvement
in shooting each other
to continue not resolving legitimate economic and political issues.

Because of these historical precedents
to procure and protect mutual health,
happiness,
and prosperity,
we cannot stay in Vietnam
in a way that would cause even further dishonor,
loss of health and dwindling wealth credibility…”
political credibility
ecological credibility,
just plain rational credibility,
or even both Left and Right sacred integrity.

It saddens me to hear,
as my children are now of about that same adolescent
through young adult time,
vulnerable to full health care choices
accessible only for those with deepest pockets,
to hear Republican leaders
responding to recent overdue Affordable Care actions
with:
“I don’t disagree with you
as to the wisdom of health and safety
original constitutional intent,
but we must leave behind Democratic Obamacare
improvements toward this sacred federal mandate
or dishonor our partisan public disservice,
and further muddy our loss of credibility.”

Again,
they are not listening
to voices for secular health
and sacredly defended safety of all lives:
We all,
Republicans and Democrats,
U.S. and non-U.S. residents
with democratically cooperative original constitutional intent,
must not remain the only wealthy nation
without a clear culture of health federal mandate
to protect economic
and ecological
and physical
and mental health
and safety of all lives,
now,
and those yet to come,
or we will continue to bring dishonor upon ourselves,
and an even longer pathological history
of decreasing global credibility,
not just among humane nature
but with
and for
and of all Earth’s health-wealth optimizing natures.

Growing Healthier Times

If life animates predation,
dynamic investments of time grow ego’s prey.

When predative life
captures memories of time’s investments
we have opportunity to devour and constipated hoard,
and healthier invitations to absorb with love
