Trauma comes from violence
as health comes from peace.

Trauma,
and unresolved traumatic memory,
is to health,
as violence,
and unresolved threat of violence,
is to peace.

Western and Eastern cultures of competing traumas
long for cultures of health,
climates of cooperative gratitude
for Earth’s sacred and fertile dualistic Heavenly Grace
and nondualistic EarthNature-ParadiseSpirit Karma.

Hope stresses active therapy.
Despair distresses trauma.
What is absence of hope or despair for you?

Crisis or opportunity?
A potential critical depression event
or opportunity to uncover oppressive Win-Lose competitions
or invitation to recover Win-Win therapeutic co-operations?

Probably all the above.
Which makes it all the more climate critical
to be mindful of who we hang out with
and invest in and vote for,
what voices and messages and stories
we read and watch and listen with,
especially before going to sleep,

again after we wake up

Voting Booth Conversation

My African-American
young adolescent daughter,
since she was age five
needing a therapeutic home and family,
with Oppositional Disorder
and deviantly diverse neural-cognitive communication patterns,
would have voted for Donald Trump if she could.

In large part,
I suspect and fear,
because she is obsessively attracted
to what and whom she knows is bad for her.

Bad medicine.
Toxic sights and sounds and feelings.
Poisons for all sensory receptors,
Mutually oppositional reiterative disorder
perpetually trading barbs of blame and shame,
games she so loves to hate to play,
with tendencies toward bipolar disarray.

Why does she seem to prefer older
straight
blond boys?
Probably because she identifies herself as a younger
brown-skinned
curly-headed
(in several ways and means)
princess-diva-girl.

Anyway,
she helped me vote for our town’s Mayor,
and School Board,
and Propositions about borrowing money
to pay it back later
out of her real-estate and business tax investments.

What she thought would be more interesting investments
for her future,
rather than bridges,
and firetrucks,
and improved highways,
she thought more gardens would be nicer,
and more nutritional in the long run.

As for Mayor,
she told me to vote for “Donald.”

Well, honey,
bad news.
None of these candidates is a Donald.

I didn’t say Donald
I said vote for Dora.
(Did I mention her speech therapy,
and lack thereof?)

(Did I mention I’m deaf as a post
and old enough to be her Great Gay Grandfather?)
Honey,
I don’t think writing in “Dora”
would be a good idea
because she’s not one of the choices here.

Well,

Death of Dreams

Our children must not die
before their parents
or parental dreams die with them.

And, for those without children,
this is easily empathized
because our dreams must not die
before we do.

Without them
our best selves have already left
whatever misery and boredom remains
for further degenerating absence of purpose.

As our own remaining children
step into young adulthood
wise parents often continue listening
for their dreams.

In this way,
as our own immortal dreams and fantasies fade,
younger dreams become our own extending future.

Here,
in the imperative parental vocation
of restoring therapeutic justice
and peace to dream love’s future,
is where I hear resounding
Millennial Generation Silence

Absence of healthy economic and political dreams
for healing over-heated competing climates
and landscapes.

Restoring inclusive predator and prey recycling justice
and healthy pre-recycling parenting
and dreams of timeless youth
all begin with loving to know Why?

PolyBoxes of Tradition

I faced alarming paradoxes
as I headed toward puberty.

First,
my King James Bible-belting parents,
extended family,
and all-hopelessly-WHITE farm community
taught me

God loves me
and all the children,
red and yellow,
and black almost as much as white.

That felt good
but then I learned God hates me
because I became queerly obsessed
with hot guys,
and not hot girls.
So, God created me
so He could hate me.
That seemed like poor planning to me,
and I was still in fifth grade.

Then I learned that God had given me two extraordinary gifts:
Possibly unmeasurable intelligence,
and so,
my grade-school principal warned
my evangelical farmer parents,
we were not to be surprised
if I was and saw this Earth
in a somewhat different way.

My second gift
was the envy of all good Bible-belted teenagers.
I could sing with the angels.

So,
the God of Infinite Love
is my Creator
and I am His Frankenstein Queer
with a mind and singing voice to soar,
full of Grace.

You and I might both be surprised
how long it took to figure out
Something is very wrong with this picture,
and I don’t think it is just me.
It was merely everyone else I knew and trusted
in that Bible-belted time.

So I sang for them in full voice
but gave as little voice to my sexuality as possible.
I wrote papers and test responses
in full A+ voice
but told no one
I knew they were asking wrong questions
for me to answer with full-versed integrity,

Free to sing with David and Jonathon
free of magic superstitions
standing in for mythic polypathic wisdom
of Solomon

Not to divide innocent organic Promise
God has conjoined as Love
of and for children,
red and yellow,
black and white,
gay and lesbian,
bisexual and transgender

And, yes, even straight-faced
Bible-belting out Hate
and Supremacist Evangelical Christian Colonizing InBred Correctness,
while continuing to give birth
to hidden,
shamed and blamed queer Grace
of a Loving God
polypathically immense,
deep and wide,
future through past
regeneratively just
and peaceful

I studied liturgical theology in seminary.
Even so, I was struck by the simplicity
of Robin Wall Kimmerer’s First Nation observation,

I have become haunted by wonder,

I have always had a fondness for the narrative of dreams.

Why this may be so
I could not speak.

I do recall a former life as a psych major
reading Freud’s Interpretation of Dreams.

Recognizing his iconic topography
yet wondering about his training
in phylogeny,
predicting one’s pre-adolescent healthy ego
and ecological restorations
of our species’ cooperatively maturing habitat

I hope to feel
