PolyCulturing Education

Polypathic conversation with David Holmgren:

Today it is common to hear the suggestion
[cooperative] education and [therapeutic] training
is the [mindful] key to allowing people to contribute
to a more sustainable [ecopolitical] future.

Although I recognize the value of formal education and training
and [especially cooperatively-owned and managed] communications media,
they are also part of the [competitively commodified] problem
[and therefore also keys to more resonantly cooperative resolutions]
preventing [LeftBrain dominant] us from a more direct [RightBrain-inductive] connection with,
and [bilateral] experience of,
the natural[-spiritual co-arising] world
through [inductive/deductive bilateral] observation
and [bicamerally balancing] experience
[and work/play of curiosity/imagination].

Much could be said about how we need to modify formal education
and the [competitively capital-hungry] media
so they can contribute better to the [humane-sublime
polypathic
multiculturing
creolic] revolution,
but we need to recognize several fundamental
[Leftbrain dominant enculturation] problems.

First,
almost all education,
and especially higher [yet not necessarily deeper] education,
is [redacted] knowledge from secondary [audio-visual] sources,
interpreted through [competing specialist] frameworks
of [limited inter-relational] understanding.

Academic [exegetical LeftBrain dominant] training
that requires every idea and concept be referenced to refereed published [exegetical LeftBrain dominant] sources
is the extremity of this [conserving rather than transitioning] approach
to [reiterative monoculturing memorization
of what once was normatively true
and necessarily so,
yet perhaps not optimally or even sufficiently true
for all times and spaces and complex systems
and so yet hypothetically false,
BothAnd recreatively tensioned with EitherOr.]

Second,
information technology has accelerated the speed of circulation,
retrieval
and reproduction [rights] of [nutritional/toxic] information.
The [commercial] professional packaging
of [LeftBrain reductive] secondary experience
in [massively cooperatively networked] media
promises faster and better ways
to [LeftBrain access others’] learn[ing].

For instance,
in comparison to the wildlife [ecological healthy/toxic] observation skills
and original [6-sensory-neural
(sight, sound, hearing, smell, touch, internal positive/negative feeling nutritional spectrum)
bicamerally polypathic ecosystemic]
thinking.

Third,
almost all formal scientific education is based on bottom-up reductionist [STRUGGLING EITHER/OR AGAINST
top-down bilateral deductivist/inductivist BothAnd] thinking
[screening out cognitive-affective dissonance,
negative unresolved non-resonant psychology].

While the [cooperative multi]cultural harvest from specialized reductionist thinking over the last few hundred years
has been great
[and continues to accelerate],
it is the [cooperatively self-organizing] integration
and [creolizing] cross-fertilization of [regenerative Yang-cause] concepts
and
[Yin-nurturing/caustic BothAnd
bilateral-dialectal
matriarchal implicated affect] ideas
that is now providing the most fruitful results
for dealing with the [Yang/Yin eco]systemic [landscape/climate] problems
of the [regenerative-less/degenerative-more] environmental crisis.

Much of this [positive co-relational co-arising] integrated [comprehension]
is happening outside [formal] educational
[pathology-oriented, continuing competing-issues committed] institutions
[with highly competitive ecopolitical survival issues,
including chronic capital reinvestment].

Ironically,
information and communications technologies
are increasing these [cooperative paid-forward, co-redemptive] possibilities,
although this benefit is over [LeftBrain dominant] content,
and [redundantly tedious] replication over [re]creation;
[degenerative reiterative feedback loops
rather than cooperative self-governing
regenerative double-binding
ego/eco-conscious loops].

Fourth,
and most problematic of all,
formal education at the higher [yet not deeper] levels
is focused on digesting massive amounts of information
within the [slow-growth evolving creolizing] constructs
of separate [and alarmingly unequal] disciplines
and cultures
(such as [Left-Yang, EitherOr] science
and [Right-Yin, BothAnd] art
[nurturing octave flow-fractal regenerative functions,
like 4Base fractal/crystal group/game math,
and 4Season phylogenic reproductive rights and wrong]).

This education lacks wholistic [therapeutic] integration
with [health-wealth ecopolitically oriented] living experience
and its insights and truths often make little [shallow] impression
on the underlying [Right-YinFlow nurturing-absorbing-resonant] structures
of [comprehensive] understanding
and [internally felt committed] belief [as co-empathic trust]
created by [LeftBrain might makes right] family [conservative-supremacist] upbringing,
mass [consuming dominating producer] media
and popular [nationalized ecopolitical WinLose competition] culture.

In many fields
we find the [global glory] solutions
to [ecological within and without] problems
are known [and felt]
but are not [regeneratively] applied
for a myriad of specific [LeftBrain constipated cul-de-sac] reasons.

The core of these problems is [competing mutually mis-communicating and therefore gradually degenerating exegetical-monoculturing belief systems]
which people appear to [conserve to defensively] hold
have not been [creolic EitherOr-evolution/BothAnd-revolution] integrated with
and [regeneratively-therapeutically-cooperatively] reinforced
by their [Left-Right bicameral polypathic
ecologically ecopolitical] personal experience
[of regenerative health and competitively degenerative pathologies].

Syria Reconstructed

It is in our fragile, nearly broken, exposure
that we are most available for love
and remedial gratitude,
rather than the louder applause
of our full-blown ballistic glory.

While exercising restrained patience breeds tolerance,
giving pregnant reign to co-empathy compels timeless flow
of organic eternity.

Empathy grows fragile compassionate pause,
easily broken by impatient overexposure
to loud adulation,
or even more necessary restrained,
sufficiently polite,
applause.

I have never been to Syria
but I remember it used to be a great place
for healthy wealth.
High quality of co-regenerative life.
Deep, robustly multicultural
and cooperative commercial root systems.

All their neighbors either preferred to just be left alone,
Plan A,
or to become a creolic part of Syria,
Plan B
if peacefully possible,
rather than other empire building prospects
and militarized capital-pirating offers,
like from Rome, for example.

Syrian culture was more intentionally creolic,
absorbing,
deep-resonant layered,
looking for WinWin resolutions,
while Rome was more competitively
“all roads and revenues shall lead to home,
which is Rome”,
more WinLose devolution,
when you are on the not-so-neighborly end
of the military capital-sucking stick,
sometimes the last ecopolitical straw.

I was thinking about this
as I listened to the restrained applause
for the recent WhiteHouse “beautiful bomb” response
to Assad’s prior release of chemical bombs.
WhiteHouse military-industrial incorporated intent
apparently was aimed at weapons
inconveniently provided by Russia,
more than the Syrian weapon-holders themselves.

At the same time,
the all-wise ecopolitical policy gurus
remind us this is a LoseLose necessary investment response
but not sufficient for a longterm plan
with capacity for positive regenerativity.

I mean,
what would that look like?
I shoot your guns
until they are gone.
Then what would we do with all our military toys?

Perhaps we could begin deploying them upon each other
here in the U.S.,
after all the humans,
and other favored critters,
are removed from firing range.
But this seems like an expensive and taxing habit
and one that domestic neighbors of military installations
would probably find detrimental to real estate values
and quality of life,
like being able to sleep at night
without worrying the Army is planning to demolish
the Navy’s nuclear submarine parked in the river
just behind my backyard.

No, the pundits are right,
we also need a WinWin plan.

If I were a Syrian counter-revolutionary,
or the mother of a young Syrian terrorist,
I think I would invest in planting edibles,
especially trees,
to reverse desertification,
played-out soil,
currently reduced to more of a ballistic mine field,
improving purity and flow of water supply
for the long climate therapeutic haul,
and keeping Syrian air clear of toxic nastiness
like bullets and bombs,
sundry ballistics.

These are very hard on trees
and other organic reproductive rights.

Now I can already hear you thinking,
“He sounds like more of a feminist carpenter
who only has a tree planting hammer,
so all problems look like nails
rather than international cooperative opportunities
to play WinWin policy designer.

But, in defense of the carpenter
with a limited one tool arsenal,
this carpenter could be somebody’s mother
who also has a shovel
and a thing for WinWin long term regenerative interior landscapes
and exterior climate ecotherapies.

Moms remember
that WinWin Mother’s Milk
is more cooperatively primal
than competitive ballistic WinLose;
EitherMilitary/OrWhat? OrganicReMediation?

We have both tools,
hunting with WinLose guns
and gathering then planting WinWin embryonic seeds
of healthy ecosystemic wealth.

So, if our Trump card
has to be fight guns with guns
on one politely applauding hand,
necessary, but not regeneratively sufficient,
unless we really do choose to act more like ancient Patriarchal Rome
than ancient Matriarchal Syria,
then why not also share our shovels and seeds,
our Bodhisattva CoMessianic Matriarchal PeaceBuilders,
and our restrained Patriarchal WarMakers?

Trees of our Forest

Trees in a mindbody forest
work together in hidden ways
and through this cooperation
increase their shared resistance to disease,
mutually held immunities from shared pathologies.

In this way,
densely muticultural forest systems
with mature cooperative resistance
co-evolve even more robust
and mutually creolizing resonant;
not exactly might makes right
but more like right relationships emerge eco-flowing might.

This fertile resonance

for those who have nothing more valuable to offer
our capitalist-survivalist Either/Or
monoculturing degeneration,

growing ecopolitically revolutionary,
and revolting, boundaries
around shrinking service economy ghetto-dwellers

Follow Earth’s Authoritative Light

Borrowing from David Holmgren, Permaculture Principles and Pathways Beyond [Win-Elite v Lose-NonElite] Sustainability, 2002, p. 1

Health ethics are Beloved Community normative principles
used to guide action toward good and light and right outcomes
and away from degeneratively bad and wrong outcomes,
darkly ego-pathic and monoculturing

Regenerative ethics constrain Ego’s Win/Lose (Either/Or) survival instincts
and other ecopolitical constructs of self-interest

These verses are about the importance of [light/dark] perception;
we may say even [healthy] attitude.

If my faculty of observation,
whether of the world,
of other things,
of other people,
of one’s own situation
is bad or unhealthy,
I will myself be in a bad, unhealthy state.
Having good [polypathically mature] perception is necessary for having [and regeneratively retaining] good internal health.

Cooperative Feministas
are not quite so much Competitive Manifestos.

In David Holmgren’s introduction to Permacultural Therapeutic Design,
he contrasts “Industrial Culture” with “Sustainable Culture”
kind of like comparing masculine LeftBrain culture
with feminist RightBrain enculturation, nurturance, resonance
over the longer-term scenaria,
rather than shorter-term dementio.

Anyway, Holmgren recognizes we could choose alternative words
for labeling these two contrasting, appositional, cultures.

We might sometimes choose
Competitive Culture v Cooperative Culture,
or Capital-Accrual v Capital-Nutritional Dispersal,
sort of like the difference between hunting down and killing the defense
as compared to watering and feeding and gathering the vegan edibles,
or Colony Acquisitional
(especially of slaves and other, alarmingly similar, ways of acquiring cheap manual, and especially womanual, labor)
v Creole ReGenerative
(like mixing multicultural spices contributed in some pay-it-forward co-invested development of a robust Stone Soup
accessible to all with cooperatively managed ownership),
or LeftBrain Dominant Patriarchal (Business As Anthrocentrically Usual)
v Right-Left CoRelational Matriarchal BiCameral,
or DeGenerative LoseLose ZeroSum AntiEcological Entropic 2nd Principle
of Closed Patriarchal Framing FromAbove Ecosystems

upward and outward development trends
implying their reverse double-binding inevitability

where Convex is the top of a forward surfing wave of temporal-flowing energy,
and/or information,
while concave is the subsequent creolizing trough,
the renewing ebb of what had been that precessive crest,
now reacclimating inward and downward,
more deeply resonant toward a renewing polyculturally inclusive balance.

Regardless of Fuller’s balloons with growing and ebbing synergy/entropy,
information implying double-binding reverse-appositional binomial exformation,
these are culturally oppositional categories.
We might heuristically assume each represents an appositional tension,
with all the cultural risks of revolutionary eruptions growing toward violence
and capitalistic-repressive recessive despair,
and all the multicultural opportunities
of evolving re-creative regenerative tensions
toward therapeutic midway Tipping Points
of ecosystemic ecological balance,
cooperatively sustainable at both highly localized
and global-planetary scales
of co-redemptive ecopolitical co-empathic trust,
more culturally dominant,
more sustainable,
than mutually antipathic distrust.

While this suggests our hopes lie in our combined powers of cooperatively active love
and our degenerative despair lies within any further stressing increases
in uneven powers,
terrorizing showers, of competitive
(and increasingly rabid over-populated behavior of elites v non-elites)
monoculturing monopolistic monochromatic monotheistic disdain,
fueling each ego’s sense of selfish competitive gain

without also seeing

and hearing with dipolar co-arising and co-ebbing glial networks,
bicameral balancing in therapeutic favor for Win = Not(NotLose)

polypathic justice as also peace.

Neural Yang networks

is like experiencing both your ego-point

Higher and Deeper Powers

I was noticing that those in the Unitarian Universalist Association,
with which I am more or less anonymously affiliated
in some far too abstract way for personal comfort,
believe in three prime sources for their (our) truth search,
rather like a revised holonic trinity,
equally at home for Buddhist monk
or Islamic or Christian not-quite-so-fundamentalistically BothAnd alive.

The first of these is a Higher Power.
Now this must have been written by the Yang Universalists
within the Universal-Unitarian assembly,
because every wholesome Yin Unitarian knows
that what is a Higher Power for Universalist Yangers
is also a Deeper Power for Unitarian Yinners
bilateral BothAnd winners;
so, a HigherYang/DeeperYin Power.

Then we come to the second source,
YangLife and YinDeath.
Now any fully bicameral balanced Unitarian-Universalist,
just as any Taoist,
knows there is always something of Yin within Yang
and vice versa.
Just as there is something of our daytime lives
in our nighttime dreams,
and sometimes our inductive dream work
presents bilaterally incisive insights
into next morning’s Tipping Point meditation
on and for and of the breathless balance
of ego- and eco-consciousness,
empathically trusting in healthy YangLife
and safety of exhaling final YinDeath,
leaving further climatic paradoxes
and coaxial dialectic nondualities
for future regenerations to sift through,
notice,
comprehend and decompose,
and then reweave again,
as full-octave light emerges from dark
so life emerges from embryonic death
the absence of discontinuous life at egocentric levels
posing both risk and opportunity
in wider and deeper nutritional Earth-centric becomings.

Finally, we have sacred texts,
the YangLogos and YinMythos of experience
reflected in the memory language of Wise Elders,
presumably filled with both Higher and Deeper Powers.

So, that’s it.
We have the Higher PatriarchalUniversalist Power
with the Deeper BiCameral Learning MatriarchalUnitarian Power
living and dying to WinWin nature-spirit nonduality together,
as written in the fusing-fractal DNA and RNA
of each sacred ecological phylogenically regenerative
and co-operative
reproductive rights and wrongs re-creation story.

Now the 3-Source trinitarian story takes us to the 7 Principles,
which some permaculturists would expand out to 12,
while spiraling octavists, and maybe sufis and artists, stop at 8,
but nature reweaves as a regenerative bilateral-fractal 4
seasons of health and safety regenerativity,
or cooperative ownership and self/other governance,
if you are a Yin-Unitarian NonZero-Sum economist
or a Yang-OneEarthClimate politician
or possibly even nondual BothAnd alive and growing
out your extending UU-Taoist family,
tribe,
species,
planet,
the wu wei in-between horizontal and vertical spacetimes
where Earth and Sun/Moon radiant Sky
nondually co-arise seeds,
trees,
and other bilateral root and branching health and safety systems
seeking both Higher and Deeper Powers
of reproductive
reweaving continuous life and discontinuous death,
sacred regenerative texts;
not to become confused with degenerative twitters.

Growing Up Healthiest

Just as a significant line might be drawn
between permaculture design
and agribusiness,
defined as improved seasonal production through better and more expansive chemistry and soil and water and air and light pathology,
we might draw a parallel contrast
between cooperative Earth-nutritional politics
and competitive bottom-line capitalism,
human natural purpose and Earth-nature’s absence of healthy intent

between cooperation as Yin-flow
and competition as Yang oppositionally proficient deductive strengths

between cooperative ecopolitical co-ownership and stewardship
and competitive anti-ecological autonomous supremacy of human nature
and patriarchal-dominant rulership.

From a LeftBrain deductive dominant perspective
this line looks like an Old School opposition,
a mutually-antipathic hostility.
Yet, from a cooperative Left-Right mindbody perspective
this same line
looks and feels like ALSO (bilaterally) a decompositional appositional space
for heuristic co-empathic trust,
for significant deep learning Both-And,
rather than necessarily always and only Either-Or,
dipolar rather than merely bipolar,
ego/ecother zero-sum balancing perspective.

Just as EitherOr follows WinLose suboptimizing Game Theory ecosystemic outcomes,
while BothAnd follows WinWin regenerative-nutritional reiterative outcomes
for EarthGame Day and Night cooperative perpetual continuance.

So, suppose,
just suppose BothAnd,
for the sake of creolizing cooperative simplicity,
Republican Nationalistic Agri-valuing Business
were merely an appositional creative tension
with Democratizing EarthMatriarchal/Patriarchal PermaCulturing Design
and EcoPolitical Planning
for CoOperative Earth Ownership and ReGenerative Optimization Governance,
still including some degenerative-decompositional functions,
yet without deliberately recreating a runaway waste stream
nor a runaway personal, family, community,
or national nutritional, financial, or health-assurance deficit.

That’s what’s been up and down with my bicameral Yang/Yin mind.

I would guess?

I suppose so.
Like when someone is screaming and threatening to remove your health insured head
it might be a good idea to just take off your clothes
and walk away.
Or, the next time my elected government officials
get togethr to debate
how quickly we can further dismantle my health care
as a right of humane residency on planet Earth,
I might distract myself
by banging my head against the nearest wall
or table top.

Oh, that sounds not at all like our discussion today
in my Conflict Resolution Class.

Well, dearest Yin,
that’s probably because conflict resolution
is about opportunities for health-thrival skills;
not pathological crisis survival.
We operate on more of a two to six year
short-term re-election for more bicameral head-banging
timeline.
So, what’s your big take-away
from your world of conflict resolution
and healthy diplomacy today?

Like when someone is screaming at you
about how we can’t afford to provide care for people like you
