to revolve full cycle to incorporate the opposite end of life’s spectrum,
not mere half-assed egocentric and anthrocentric competitive life,
but fully sustainable health and well-being wealth
from now through our grandchildren’s grandchildren,

and sensually intelligent
holonic RNA/DNA-encrypted

On Eco-Logical Economics

If you have not read Riane Eisler’s “The Real Wealth of Nations” (2012) and John Michael Greer’s “Wealth of Human Nature” (2011), please do at least read one or the other.

Eisler thinks it is time to replace an overly-dominant, capital-based, competitive cultural understanding of Business As Usual Means Marginalized Lives Don’t Matter, evolved through the Industrial Age. She contrasts this with our “real”, but undervalued wealth of nurturance and care-giving. This is an explicit feminist perspective on economics and the logic and balance of ecologically-informed economics. My only complaint is not about what she has written, but about the “sin” of omitting all the vast financial and cultural research on co-operative economics, which seems to incorporate values for recycling, repurposing, rehabilitation, zero carbon footprint lifestyle intentions, as well as the organizing of co-operatives around child care, elder care, household cleanliness and order, landscaping, cooking and preserving, gardening and farming.  These are all cultural elements of what Thich Nhat Hanh would encourage us to think of as a nurturing-nutritional economy v. a domineering-toxic environment of oppressing and suppressing our natural and ecological instincts.

John Michael Greer’s analysis of our capital/commodity competitive Business As Usual economics-as-financial-transaction monopoly and monotony is entirely symbiotic with Eisler’s blistering critique.  His alternative trend view is more eco-logically focused as a logic that is our undervalued HUMAN natural wealth. If we follow what is ecologically rational more, and avoid further investment in what is merely more competitive ego-investment of an anthro-culturally supremacist species, we may have more sustainable hope for our collective future. Like Eisler, however, Greer fails to take that one additional ecological step, to notice that organic living nature is essentially co-operative until the point when trends start moving toward decay and devolution.  Economics, whether competitively-rooted in Win-Lose capitalist Game Theory, or cooperatively-rooted in Win-Win positive evolutionary Game Theory, is relational network praxis of ecological systemic intent, continuing our cultural revolution toward comprehensive consciousness.

Transactions and relationships are synonymous as reiteratively equivalent communication strings of memory and cultural history, whether we are speaking of micro-economics, or macro-economics, or both.  Our prime ecological assumption is that we live in a positively co-operative evolutionary environment, too often troubled by negatively competing Win-Lose strategies and logistics assuming a shortage of “wealth” resources, which may be reminiscent of Anderson’s “Emperor with No Clothes.” If the socioeconomic and too-long encultured pathology of over-valuing competition are precisely what point to their own nakedly devolving and decomposing future, then hope dawns with this red horizon; our socioeconomic therapy is a deeper permacultured economics of co-operative ecology, design, and developmental praxis.

At the micro-economic personal and familial and local community levels, I have found the following areas of discernment on “Win-Lose Competition Economics” v. “Win-Win Co-Operative Economics” useful:

  1. Purchasing decisions: Housing, transportation, utilities, food, insurance come immediately to mind as having rich potential to benefit our shared environment and my personal checking account and the quality of my relationships with family and neighbors when approached with a “Group Purchasing Co-Operative” intention.  When do I need a car and when do I not, and do I know other people, or is there some way I could get to know other people, who might answer that question in a way that is mutually compatible with my answer?
  2. Investment decisions: Insurance shows up here again, with retirement investment, and even regular savings and checking account relationships with financial institutions and companies who will use my payments to invest in what, exactly? I am increasingly uncomfortable with knowing that many insurance and financial corporations are taking my capital and investing it in Business As Usual, especially as it occurs to me that there are ways to invest in cooperative funds investing solely in my region of habitat, excluding those businesses with toxic outcomes for our shared environment, other species, and also for their employees, and giving preference to investments in worker- and resident-cooperative ownership.
  3. Relational decisions: While purchasing and investment are also relational, we usually think of them as transactions. So, this broader category continues to evolve on my own path toward a more comprehensive ecological co-operative consciousness. How do I choose to respond to messages from my own family that betray contention between egocentrism and eco-logical balance?  These are at least potential opportunities for some rich conversation about what we value, including sustainability of life, and what we disvalue. As I am now well-immersed in my twilight years, it becomes increasingly obvious that what I have always enjoyed about my internal contentions is how they have a way of resolving most resonantly when my egocentric left-brain embraces my ecocentric right-brain’s intuitions for right-relationship, for what is, after all, transparently eco-logical.

Eisler and Greer both point to some public policy and priority changes that would help each of us sustain our ego-eco alignment. I agree with all of this agenda.  I further believe that the principles and ethics of Permaculture could be more broadly applied to any evolutionary paradigm for relationships, transactions, actions, being and becoming on planet Earth, within our bodies and families and neighborhoods and ecosystems. Some principles that feel permacultural, but may not appear in your sustainable agriculture text:

  1. Never give up. Always, whenever possible, give downstream to enrich solidarity with those living more marginally than you are. This applies to investment and purchasing decisions, as well as all relational discernment.
  2. Don’t give out after struggling and suffering against; always give in while struggling and suffering with others, nature, human nature, your own ecologic.
  3. The best case scenario for sustaining  a Win-Lose Game, is to embrace Win-Win logistics and strategies whenever you can find a regenerative way to do so. Otherwise, the ecological long-term conclusion of Win-Lose ego-domination logistics is you might possibly win, but only after everyone else understands themselves as “losers” in your eyes; a pyric victory with deadening cost to water, soil, air, and the former wealth of human nature.

Words must wait for welcome
within this sacred green laced vista,

Ego’s Monstrous Petition

Eco had offered an operational contract
of love and synergy,
awaiting ego’s response each day,
each moment,
eager to optimize these CQI operations of karmic grace.

Over a wilting lifetime
ego implied his petitioning response:

I grow increasingly excited,
stimulated,
by this co-petitioning challenge
to frame our dissonance,
our operational riddles and puzzles,
games and logistics and strategies,
and statistical decomposition
of the odds for sustaining life,
as the perfection of hatred and fear
of death’s dissonant decay.

I petition Earth’s right to positive resolution and resonance,
as implied co-solutions and consonance
of ego with eco
to play, create, and vocation nicely together,
and this co-petition fully exercises my right of conscience,
to re-search competition for absolute freedom of independence.

This co-petition asserts our human natural guild’s lively preference
for contention over contentment,
for longing rather than belonging
for uni-lateral freedom rather than ecollateral interdependence.

Eco absorbed this richly contentious compost,
this dissembling over co-operative rights of assembly
and competition challenging cooperation’s eco-creation
as inclusively diverse recreation,
divisive of ego’s omnipotent present place in space
from eco’s multisystemic functions within time’s good seasons.

Time unfolded an eco-systemic co-tractive gift,
born of Her binomial grace,
an eco-response to mutually co-tribute with ego
gratitude for bi-cameral mutuality
and full freedom of co-scientific consciousness,
to bilaterally participate in time’s eternal moment
of ego- with eco-centric life.

Cooperative Discernment

Discerning one's right of conscience
forms comprehensive consciousness.

Or so I hope,
recognizing self-governing justice requires trust
in each eternal moment's conscience,
rooted back in DNA's time
anchored in universal consciousness,

understanding,
comprehensively conscious is
as conscience does;
remembering, too, democracy requires trust
in each individual's conscience
rooted in something more than ego consciousness.

Self-governance,
decision making,
our economic-logical planning and prioritizing,
cannot merely protect human rights
without more inclusively protecting Earth Rights,
any more or less than human nature optimizes
nature's self-reflective memory capacity.
A human rights frame without an Earth Rights EcoCenter
misses the balancing right of conscience
informed by truly universal consciousness.
Golden Rules advocate co-operation with all "Others,"
no exceptions for natural system Elders
bilaterally intelligent trees and flowing rivers,
surfing oceans and coincidental gravity,
lunar and solar fueled systems,
progenitors of RNA's regenerative intelligence
of consciousness.

Cooperative governance is our informed footprint,
not the power of voting with our feet,
but flowing through this same direction,
erection of mutual consciousness.
Co-passion shapes our prints of future's self-sustaining peace.

Nature's footprint in yin's time,
printed foot of co-prehension,
yang-spacious,
efficacious conscience,
we pray for comprehension of views not shared,
languages not spoken,
functions not yet understood,
frequencies barely heard.

Miraculous Powers of Hypocrisy

I was listening to Cornell West,
who described our catastrophic tolerance of disvalues for others,
situations we would never tolerate for ourselves,
disvalues like homelessness and hunger,
but also like random violence,
abuse and neglect,
lack of caring,
as a “conspiracy” of a dominating, oppressive, and competitive culture.

Conspiracy theories make me nervous about the theorist,
but West reassured us that he shares this concern,
yet even with all that concern taken into account,
perhaps this is a conspiracy
in the same sense that cultural and climate evolutions
always appear, in hindsight,
as if genius inspired,
intelligently planned
and spontaneously networked
a magically coincidental outcome.
Positive sometimes,
and sometimes more about this mystery
of tolerating oppressive and suppressive disvalues for others,
with apparent equanimity,
unaware of any cognitive dissonance,
without active antipathy,
or even passive empathy,
the total absence of compassion,
lack of mindfulness,
lack of consciousness;
unconsciousness.

Our own hypocrisy of self v. other values v. tolerable disvalues
are hypnotic conspiracies?
Magical miracles?

Yet, conspiracy or not,
if self-contentment is possible
while hypocritically accepting intolerable losses and suffering,
abuse and neglect, for other:
species,
Earth-plus-atmosphere ecosystem,
nations,
cultures,
neighborhoods,
even other family members,
then we sometimes would choose words like
irrational,
rabid,
irresponsible,
lack of appropriate accountability,
lack of capacity for empathy or bonding,
lack of awareness, consciousness,
hateful,
stupid,
mental disease,
sociopathology,
ecopathology,
a hypocritical living death cuts by a thousand ego-feathered knives.

We work this magically competitive hypocrisy with each other,
on each other,
against each other,
and sometimes with each other–
we call that humor.

I do not feel possessed
when my internal ecological voice
tells me that my monocultural competitive economic environment
is over-invested in undervaluing significant dimensions
of who we naturally and cooperatively (permaculturally) are,
our care-giving and loving,
our tenderness and justice-seeking,
our tendency to side with the underdog and the understory,
our endless fascination with root systems and nutritious blossoms,
seasonal development patterns and the weather,
birdsong and surf sounds,
regular breathing and heart-beat rhythms,
blood flow nutritional capacities,
the consumption and production of nutrients
within any paradigm that might come to mind.

I get it that I live in a culture educating ourselves,
about Darwin’s “evolution is the survival of the fittest cooperative relationships”
by simply omitting the last two words;
cultural hypocrisy miraculously conspired through our sins of omission,
more salient than our grace of cooperative inclusion,
because of collective cognitive dissonance
where we need collective cognitive confluence.

Perhaps a more resonant resolution of consciousness
calls us to slow down and decompose our analysis of deviance
as sometimes negative and sometimes positive
but always some of both.

I struggle to hold a heuristic safe-space for positive deviance.
My cognitive dissonance radar
learns to perceive dissonance itself as having two faces.
In this way
I begin to claim my positive deviant place
in our shared orthodoxy of truth and goodness,
beauty and diverse polycultural integrity,
in our “unitarianism” our synergy (B. Fuller),
our love.
If I am challenged to include you in this shared orthodoxy
(of truth and goodness and beauty and justice, etc.–the “positive values”)
then my sense of ecosystemic balance
is dissonant enough to exclude you
from your rightful place in our radically cooperative eco-space.

I tend to over-react to your negative deviance,
all that nastiness, really?!
because of our culturally collective cognitive dissonance
about your coincidental positive deviance,
OK, so you are loyal to a fault and a good cook,
and the clothes actually do smell and feel better when you do the laundry,
although it is the environmental expense that we actually disagree about,
whether it is significant to our collective future,
or not,
or something in between,
some place that we might actually find
and consensually agree about
and then go on to those other kinds of sensuality,
but I think I have side-railed here.

Perhaps we enjoy solidarity in rooting for the underdog
in empathizing with those who appear
with a magical potential of a positive deviant outcome.
We so hope the underdog might win this round
in part
because we thereby retain a ray of hope
that we too may someday win
with all our undervalued, unsung, underdogged traits,
cooperative preferences,
nurturing instincts,
suffering and struggling with
my over-dog egocentric cultural landscapes,
my environment,
my internally encultured ego (Left-brained) consciousness.

I always cast my ego in the role of underdog,
just as my Right brain casts our permaculturally cooperative eco-consciousness
in the role of Superdog.

This internally chaotic conspiracy of self-doubt
about ego’s capacity to live fully,
integrally,
creatively,
honestly,
compassionately,
with appropriate integrity of self-disclosure,
without the embarrassment of closeted hypocrisy,
dropping our considerable weapons of mutual immunity
and cognitive dissonance,
is also the boundary face of rediscovering our Right-brain’s ecocenter,
our Beloved non-verbal Communication center,
comprehensively conscious,
resonant and resolved,
optimized and polypathically densely nutritious,
only through bicamerally synergetic confluence,
active peace,
love,
integrity of shared meaning and purpose
to the very core of our mutually messianic
mutually mentoring
co-redemptive
ego-and-eco balanced chi-soul.

False dichotomy. No such thing as a totally dysfunctional form,

CoRedemptive Miracle

If you are asking me to forgive you
for being born human,
for the sins of making ignorant,
and often habitual,
mistakes of judgment and understanding,
for your lack of compassion and empathy,
for your cognitive and affective and effective dissonance,
for your part in our shared investment
in a cultural pool of violence,
mutual domination assumptions of win-lose logistics,
both intentionally and accidentally causing yourself to suffer,
others to suffer and become angry,
and hate,
and despair,
and wilt,
and develop climate-control issues,
and extinguish;
if you are asking me to forgive you
for sometimes doing more than your fair share of mayhem,
then of course my answer is “Yes!”

Especially if you might forgive me
for the errors of my pathological ways.
If this could be a cooperative double-binding kind of transaction
of mutual forgiveness for sins already committed
and those still on their way,
then this might serve a mutually redemptive dynamic,
as well as mutual mentoring cooperative investment
all in one compost pile of coincidental enrichment.

But, while this is all fine and good,
you do not need my fore-giveness
nor can I participate in your redemptive investments
of life,
of time,
of resources,
of positive healthy sustainable relationships,
in your stead,

My capacity to fore-give,
