Earth’s Solar Economy

Evolutionary Project: Passive/Active Solar Economic Incubator

 

My Permaculture Design Certificate came from Shutesbury, MA, last year, with Kay Cafasso, hosted by Sirius Eco-Village, where, indeed, things can become serious, especially in January, when we started. Later last year, I was ordained as an EcoMinister, by the Order of Universal Interfaith (OUnI), to co-facilitate and mutually-mentor with my “client” Earth.

 

Now I realize how silly that sounds. I mean I don’t really think of Earth as my client, but I do think of her as my vocational, and residential, host. I like this better than client, for reasons that are transparent to anyone who has wrestled with our parasitic infestation of Earth’s warmly embracing natural economy. And, host reminds me of Renaissance artisan and design economies, when a wealthy sponsor would requisition a project for his (too occasionally her) habitat.

 

There is another problem up there in that first paragraph. I thought I was ordained, but then Rev. Miner (no, seriously, that’s his real name—I know, I can hear all those “mining for Earth’s ecological riches” metaphors going through your analogy-drenched consciousness) couldn’t host the ordination scheduled for a gorgeous early October Sunday afternoon, embedded in an 8-day Work That Reconnects training with Joanna Macy, in Rowe, MA. Although I have no OUnI credential, I still hold that time as when I stepped into this Permaculture Design and Development vocational stewardship with Earth.

 

The first step, as you all know better than I, is to visit the site and notice. If you have the leisure to string this noticing stage through all four seasons, so much the better. In that Earth happens to be my sit-spot, my cooperative intentional community, as well as my vocational host, I have been keeping my journal for a full year now.

 

As I understand it, which is a significant caveat, Earth chose me for this Solar Incubator project because of my commitment to cooperative economic development. So I am tailoring my sit-spot host interview questions toward what I notice about Earth’s ecological, and sometimes not quite so logical, economic system.

 

I turn to my Questions for Client Interviews and skip past the first section, Questions About Use, because the second section, Questions About the Client (aka Host) seems more urgent.

 

I see no question like “what is your gender” because I suppose that isn’t germane or, if it does matter, the answer will be self-evident. But, I’m new at this, so it takes me a minute to realize that the answer is either bisexual, or perhaps polysexual. I think there is some kind of virus or bacteria that has eight distinguishable sexes, which seems like a confusingly ambiguous way to procreate but apparently it’s working out for them, so who am I to judge, right?

 

Going through the questions, the first few don’t seem to apply to Earth. Or do they?

 

How many family members now, ages and interests. Future growth of family.

 

Earth has a dense polycultural diversity of species. Most act like family most of the time, except one, kind of adolescent, one might even say tantrum-prone toddler, species with precociously competitive, acquisitive, extractive, ego-centric interests.

 

Human economic systems have been a chronic risk to the future growth of Earth’s family since Left-brained dominance replaced LeftYang/RightYin hemispheric balance, maybe. Family history is not my strength. But, from an economic perspective, risk to future development seems to have started with the extraction-fuelled economy, ramped up later with our capital-drenched value enculturation, now becoming linguistically monopolistic over what once was solar multisystemic ecological consciousness, awareness, maybe even Buckminster Fuller’s Universal Intelligence.

 

Where did you grow up?

 

Earth evolved out of regenerative plasmatic stardust; kind of an immaculately informative co-receptive conception, like the regenerative fertility emerging from unions of sunlight and Earth. Solar radiant sperm gratefully received by Earth’s ribonucleic parasites, perceived as light and warmth and energy, magnetic waves and functional balance, dynamic yeast absorbing into Earth’s revolving polycultural skin, pores, ciliating succulent dynamic solidarity. Earth emerges as a reiteratively evolving, cooperatively regenerative home; and host, in this case.

 

What was your last home like?

 

Hmmm. OK, just move on, maybe that’s a question for our future generations. And I certainly hope they have a more generous answer than my adult kids have for that question.

 

How long do you plan to live here?

 

Well, the long-term strategy appears to continue regenerative system development as long as we have sufficient light and heat, and not too much light or heat.

 

What occupations?

 

Regenerative Multisystemic Designer, Developer, Processor, Facilitator, Host, Incubator, working within a subsidiary and primally dynamic solar economic system. In other words, Earth enjoys a revolving ecology that distributes light and dark energy with both electromagnetic and thermodynamic balance. This balancing vocation may be threatened by extracting weight from Earth’s core faster than it can be reabsorbed and by unbalancing the weight and/or speed of appositive polarities, like the North and South Poles.

Describe your neighbor relations.

 

Cordial. We all tend to stay in our own interdependent orbits around the sun, except our moon, of course, but that relationship is the exception that seems to prove the mutual subsidiary ecological rules within our planetary neighborhood.

 

Do you have any allergies?

 

Earth’s natural systems appear to be allergic to dissonance; defining dissonance as dysfunctional frequencies, flow disruption and turbulence, anomalous arrhythmic loss of pattern articulation and boundaries. These economically incarnate as deviations from a (0)-sum balanced Win-Win strategy, with small investment risk, sustained slow growth, ecological exchanges of time, language, energy, information, resources, nutrients, fuel, and, sure, capital too, why not?

 

Eating habits

 

Diverse polycultural form and function. More economically nutritious during light exposure, leaving plenty of time to digest deep dreams in more reflective, and redactive, moonlight frequencies. Prefer abundantly positive banquet style with a seat and place setting for everyone, all species, all generations including those no longer reconciliating and incarnating with the rest of us, and those who are with us only in more DNA/RNA encoded future form.

 

No one gets seconds until everybody has had a balanced sustainable intake of positive nutrients. No table is served twice until all tables on Earth have sustainably balanced nutrient delivery sufficient for all species at all tables.

 

Unfortunately this nutrient exchange economy has slipped away with the onslaught of TV dinners, and instant breakfasts.

 

How self-reliant do you want to be? In what ways?

 

Finally, an economic question. I was wondering if we would ever get to the nutritional investment and value exchange question.

 

Earth most certainly does NOT hope to ever become self-reliant, any more than she would deliberately choose to be an impoverished, orphaned, single-parent with way too many hungry moon dependents that she is doing her best to mentor in the ways of regenerative economic balance—all of which requires actively cooperative interdependence, or synergy.

 

If Earth did not have her moon to worry about, then the natural rhythms and patterns of her light and dark nutritional, fuel, and relational economies would be considerably less complex, sometimes even disturbing. That said, she seems to love Elder Moon, and the gravitational and luminary atmospheric anomalies need not detain us from our focus on Earth’s primary dynamic vocation, to interdependently continue, with her Solar Systemic Family, orbiting around the sun with gravitational polar and circumferential balanced frequencies and positive, clockwise, spin trajectory, to optimize Permacultural Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Ecological and Economic Standards.

 

This evolutionary project is not about self-reliance, Earth’s permacultural design vision is optimized cooperative, inclusive, life-sustaining abundance; all made possible because of her ongoing synergetic romance with Sun.

 

Pets livestock, wildlife enhancement?

 

Well, duh, yes! This is Earth we are talking about here. We’re all residents at the same Solar Systemic address. The Golden Rule of ethics applies globally. No way Earth wants to lose any of her DNA/RNA regenerative investment in life’s future.

 

So, OK, now I think maybe I should skip ahead to the Priorities questions, because I just have too many unanswered “sit-spot” questions remaining About Use of Property and maybe going to what stands out as the main patterns I noticed will help me sort out my own priorities.

 

Worst problems? Why?

 

Earth’s prime economic problem is the evolution of a competitive capital-dominant monopoly in human-nature’s economic value system. Why doesn’t human nature notice that Earth’s prime natural systemic economy is cooperatively nutrient-driven and polyculturally regenerative?

 

Solar energy grows Earth’s photosynthetic breath and warms her atmosphere, solids, liquids, atoms, molecules, cells, organs, communities, species, food, both prey and predators, subsidiary parasitic populations, and ecosystemic hosts. Any gardener knows this stuff.

 

Earth has passive and active solar energy. Active solar energy is designed and developed to serve the nutritional and other fuel needs of humaned nature. I don’t know, maybe its hu-maimed nature. Again, I get confused when I start thinking outside my “sit-spot” perspective, which is populated by deer and turkeys and hawks, an occasional eagle overhead, squirrels, sparrows, trees, grasses…but only occasionally by humans, and dogs.

 

Earth’s solar economy is renewable, I think, or hope so anyway. The sunlight falls on everybody, every form, creating the very possibility of information and a system, rather than chaotic absence of relationship. Earth is our economic Commons because Sun radiates light with pay-it-forward investment in the production of consumable nutrients, absorbable energy, breathable air, drinkable water, listenable octave sound and perceivable octave sight frequencies.

 

To date, Sun has not given Earth notice that transferring solar values within this cooperative organic economy will result in loss of light or solar energy, so the Commons economy is indefinitely regenerative, contingent upon Sun continuing to radiate frequency and functional values that synergetically balance Earth’s ecological design and development.

 

Earth’s primary economic development problem is human nature’s competitive, Left-brain dominant, and therefore ecologically imbalanced, blindness to our permaculturally dominant passive, and pacific, solar energy, nutrition and wellness economy. Radiant light grows natural systemic Basic Attendance. Solar energy develops Earth’s prime economic values and relationships, forms and functions, through her balancing natural frequencies.

 

Where on your site do you like the most? Why?

 

Earth’s solar economic sweet-spot is what a Game Theorist, blended with a Group Theorist, like Gregori Perelman and his 0-soul Theorem, might understand as a (0)-sum Win-Win inclusive cooperative gaming strategy. Earth does best being able to absorb all of Sun’s radiance, feeding and heating and regenerating her DNA/RNA value-cells, without any loss of balanced and harmonious atmosphere. Everybody’s end-game goal is to win together, or nobody ultimately wins. Every organic system’s ego goal is to end play with no more and no less than when play started, back with the egg and sperm event, speaking of DNA.

 

Some passive solar economic techniques to consider:

 

  • Reorient Earth’s human nature toward (0)-sum solar cooperative economics. Go full passive solar cooperative across all paradigms and value exchanges.

 

  • Select nutritional options for optimizing informational absorption, depth, density, thermal mass.

 

  • Reflect light’s reiterative and regenerative, and reflective, properties when developing inclusive polycultural value-optimization design. Cognitive dissonance theory, and a little too much experience, tells me that if I don’t mentor my own cooperative ecological hopes and dreams, if all I do is write in my sit-spot journal about them, then that is just not pay-it-forward enough for optimizing economic outcomes.

 

  • Design comprehensive spaces that naturally circulate ecologically balancing values, like information and energy and air.

 

  • Solar value absorption purifies, and pacifies, salves, conciliates what we feel without becoming ego-competitively contaminated.

 

As to the question of why Earth likes this (0) sum Win-Win strategic game best, as plain as the sun on my face, I suppose she really likes her unique Solar Systemic role as a passive solar revolutionary economic incubator, flawlessly spinning out Permacultural CQI Optimization Standards, except for that over-populating, extractive, Right-brain oppressing, human DNA species.

 

But, that’s OK, the problem is the solution. I learned that in my permaculture class.

Tao of Strategic Challenges

There is the maxim of military strategists;

I dare not be the first to invade, but rather be the invaded.

Dare not press forward an inch, but rather retreat a foot.

That is, to march without formations,

To roll not up the sleeves,…

There is no greater catastrophe than to underestimate the enemy

(Laotse, #69)

 The word military does not fit with Laotse’s overall intent to talk about dispute resolution. Clearly he sites territorial and proprietary issues, so maybe this is a “maxim of ownership strategists,” which would include defensive and offensive strategies to maintain and re-establish natural balance.

Not being the first to invade goes back to a wu wei principle of mutually cooperative subsidiarity as an ecological systemic norm. Think and act like an eco-cell within a healthy organism; not a cancerous ego-center. To invade is to challenge existing ego/eco value balance. To be the invaded might more fully translate as “become empathetically focused on the challenger’s perspective, values, positions—try to find them within yourself until they have resonance.” Maybe try some reverse role play, like preparing for a debate team.

 “Dare not press forward an inch” means do not even appear to react with ego-resistance. Ask for nothing that might lead to ecological imbalance, “but rather retreat” might look like inviting your challenger to agree with you to an equitable Win-Win resolution, defined as no one allows the other to walk away while feeling they have just lost a positive opportunity to incarnate wisdom.

 “March without formations” may have some reference to Laotse’s primary attraction to natural flow functions. Solid forms lack the flexible flow functionality for evolutionary economic change that one might find in a river, or even a tornado, if you have something more revolutionary in mind.

The title of this poem, Camouflage, is what a Buddhist might think of as Basic Attendance, which has a mutual gratitude understory, or gestalt, understanding each moment as having positive opportunity potential. Basic Attendance, in oppositional and other forms of dissonant, wild, crazy environments, begins with exposing our vulnerability, our fluidity, our confluent intention, a disciplined humility of balanced ego/ecological consciousness.

 “To roll not up the sleeves” reminds us to never show our fist even to our own internal need for self-passion. Laotse mentors non-violent multisystemic communication praxis; most certainly not aggression. He explores the paradoxical orthopraxis of breathing in comprehensive natural-systemic information and breathing out toward our mutually cooperative future.

“Enemy” is just wrong here. Enemies are created through lack of wise response. The word here should be challenger. In Permaculture Design we confront many challenges to optimizing Continuous Quality Improvement, ecologically balanced polycultures that show promise for sustaining regenerative life cycles. The only strong candidate for enemy status might be time, but the seasons and scales of development and design approach permacultural standards with humane ecocentric humility and reverence for the progenitive sacredness of time’s nutritionally absorbent dimensions.

Ecological Economics

Buckminster Fuller and Laotse share a primordial concern with our economic well-being. Just as our economies are our value transactions, our governance, of self and others, is our ordering of values, which may be either positive and confluent, bringing contentment and just peace, or negative and dissonant, bringing entropy, decay, and cognitive dissonance.

The economies of natural systems, including humane natural systems, follow an explicated Yang-convex-Positive AND gravitationally implied Yin-concave-Negative ecological principle of balance. This is not so much a static place of stasis; more of a dynamic spacetime of diastatic mutual enculturation. Evolution unfolds a generative economy of Positive YangPolynomial and Negative No-Longer-and-Not-Yet YinPolynomial balancing mutual prehension. Economic disvalues are counter-evolutionary, irrational, and dissonant. Natural systemic values enjoy prime relationship ecologic between physical gravity and metaphysical gratitude, between our body’s intuitive sense of balance, correctness, rightness, and our mind’s sense of balance, correctness, rightness, truth, equity, beauty, goodness, and logically optimizing value.

Where Fuller and Laotse differ is in their contrasting historical relationship to the Industrial Revolution. Laotse would not have recognized a distinction between ecological value and economic value. His wisdom roots back toward a shamanic sensory baptism in the flow and force and function of natural waters and winds and seasons and light and dark voices. Logic was ecologic and analogically cognized and incarnated. A fully optimized economic life is a life lived in contented harmony with Earth’s natural systems, including mutually subsidiary relations within the family and community.

Fuller, on the other hand, has a more prophetic mission, to reconnect economies of optimized design and regeneration with natural logic discerned through observing biometrics, and analyzing their implied geometrics of natural system development. Fuller also had a post-Darwinian arsenal of symbiotic relationships to draw from. While Laotse has at least been interpreted to dwell on predator v. prey competitive natural economies, Fuller’s enculturation permits keeping this competitive assumption in play with cooperative host-parasite relationships. The relationships of primal and primary and prime interest to Fuller are Earth as host and humans as parasites, and perhaps body-physical information as natural host and mind-metaphysical universe as analogically and ecologically derivative of natural energy, metric development, and oppositional balance. Not so much consciousness as parasitical but nature’s intelligent comprehension as ectosymbiotic design.

Fuller wanted to prove global nutrient sufficiency to move away from a competitive economic culture of predator v. prey, in a world assumed to struggle without inclusive bounty. Since the 1970s, according to his analysis, there have been no ecological barriers to moving away from Win-Lose competitive economic assumptions, in favor of more sustainable, peaceful, and mutually grateful Win-Win cooperation; an emergent post-millennial ecological foundation for our species’ inclusive  and life-sustaining economic regeneration.

As our cells have learned a cooperatively supplemental subsidiarity within their mutually parasitic economy, so too human egos can learn a cooperative mutually subsidizing ecologic for sustaining life and more regenerative economic trends for Earth’s evolving ground of all being. Fuller and Laotse both frame a natural systemic positive teleology, systemic understanding of ecological meaning and purpose, without invoking a systematic theology. God becomes Universal Ecological Intelligence discovered through observing the flow and function of natural form, the evolution and devolution of information.

Organic Honey

What did your kids eat today?

Well, let’s see…

How do you know it was organic?

It said so right on the glass,

not plastic, bottle.

How do they know if the honey is organic or not?

Do they interview or breathalyze each bee

returning home?

Do they ask each bee each time

whom the bee has been with?

In that intimate kinda way,

playing in whose pollen, exactly?

Did the bee stay within her orthodox organic certified playground,

or did she wander off the farm

and free range right into your toxic neighbor’s

chemically condomed hydrangea,

or maybe that always too enticing hibiscus,

flaunting her ample skanky wares?

Well, I don’t know,

I just took the bottles’ word.

I wouldn’t begin to know

how to address your immunity issues,

about breathalyzing slutty bees

addicted to poison.

 

OK, so what else did you feed on today?

Well, I told my kids I love them,

and we practiced variations on that theme,

absorbing rich nutrient strings of rhythmic compost.

I used my please and thank-yous

and you’re welcome, and namaste.

I wished them peace

before their baths

and before turning out their light

so they could see stars and moon

slivering through dark embracing womb.

Our neighbors provided bird song,

especially those mourning doves

calling out resonate alto fractal coo,

rhythm and courtship dance.

I fed them massaging back rubs

and hugs

and shoulder squeezes,

gentle taps on knees and elbows.

I stroked their drifting drowsy heads

from frontal lobe toward brain stem,

and back again, again.

My fingers rubbed between each totem

in their forceful flowing spines.

I fed them sad and silly songs

and mindful ho-ke-po-ke,

values in and yuckies out.

We fed each other stories of love and romance,

sadness and despair,

fear and anger,

passion and grace,

all stories synergetically satisfying.

 

We are what we absorb, both before and after all.

Cooperative Party Platform for Diving into Clean Warm (but not too warm) Water

The Tao Te Ching guides rulers, whether we are rulers of only our own selves, or caregivers for children and elderly family members, or a Governor, or CEO of the Ford Foundation or Ford Motor Corporation, the Prime TrimTab Principle of wu wei optimizes confluence, or contentment, by minimizing dissonant interference. A great deal has been said already about wu wei’s incarnating as a laissez-faire self- and other-governing practice. But, “laissez-faire” is to non-violence as mutually subsidizing subsidiarity is to well-integrated pacifism.

We have active non-violence (Yang) and passive non-violence (Yin). Active non-violence is to be practiced only as Positively Deviant from our eco-dislogical systemic norms. Active non-violence responds only to unnatural ego-eruptions into our cultural DNA environment and economy. When and where ego-normics conflict with balanced eco-logic, then active non-violence is an appropriate wu wei response.

Ecological, or permacultural, candidates for Cooperative Party endorsement want balanced DNA enculturation for regenerative governing intent and practice. Strong candidates will stand out as Positive Deviants within an overly competitive ego-normic culture, economic systems, and political processes. Positive Deviant Cooperative Party nominees will demonstrate well-balanced DNA permacultural practice for themselves, and intent for those they care for.

Some questions that we might all ask ourselves before considering public office, or even private regenerative capacity:

Am I more concerned about building a better regulatory and investment environment for self-composting toilets and humanure, or for corporate profiteering banks?

Am I more concerned about keeping my non-blue trash can as empty as possible or about keeping my checking account as full as possible?

If I don’t compost, how do I feel and think about that? Same thing for gardening.

Do I live in a place that would be more comfortable in an exclusive gated community, or in a diversely polycultured forest? Why?

What are my personal nutrition and self-care practices and concerns, issues for myself and for my family and community?

What is my transportation procedure, policy, practice and intent? How does this intersect with my (0) carbon balanced aspirations?

What and where are my financial investments? How much of my portfolio, and/or time, is invested in cooperative ecological enterprises and vocations and service networks and training and schools? Is any of it invested locally, or within my own bioregion? If not, why not? What are my barriers to smart ecological investment of resources?

What have I done to participate in and support cooperative ecological employment and residential and learning economies?

You will undoubtedly come up with your own better questions, but these were enough to reassure me that our Cooperative Party will not be nominating me for any embarrassing public exposure. I am just not Positive Deviant enough.

 

The Cooperative Party drew up a character profile of their ideal candidates for elected office.

Cooperative Party candidates run their campaigns the way they hope to generate public policy and inclusive procedural justice. We are looking for excellent ecological economists and regenerative system analysts, mentors, and facilitators.  If you cannot demonstrate at least moderate levels of accomplishment as regenerative ecologists within your personal, familial, and community life, then please do not come to our Cooperative Party, we will all be miserable in your depressing company.

 Important regenerative ecological indicators, for your self-assessment:

Personal Health Care

You exercise and feed your mind and body with nutritious choices, promoting well-being of taste, feelings, balanced eco/ego intentions, sounds, sights, and smells, and relationships, too, as possible while retaining positive environmental goals for including diversity of cultural and economic values within your daily and weekly formation.

Familial/Kinship Care

Your approach to primary relationships demonstrates profoundly inclusive peaceful-loving intention and compassionate mindfulness. Disagreements about values and priorities are recognized as important teachers, mutual learning opportunities for growing in understanding and potential confluence. Flexibility in positively framing and managing internally competing values, ages, gender identities and preferences, access to resources, security ,integral integrity, recreation and rest, learning and mentoring praxis are all germane experience for sustainable outcomes within the Cooperative Party.

Community Vocational Experience

If you have no experience within a cooperative vocational culture, then you are not yet ready for legislative design projects. If you have never mentored a regenerative development system, demonstrating facility as a mutual feedback coordinator and summarizer and analyzer, then you have not yet legislated policy and procedure for installing a perennial garden, much less an ecosystem or nation. Ideal mature wisdom experience within shared vocational relationships would cover the full range of cooperative development from community research and inclusive project planning experience, through implementation, maintenance, evaluation, and strategic comprehensive review for further synergetic optimization, meeting Permaculture Design’s Continuous Quality Improvement Standard Principles, for regenerative systems evolution.

 Investing exorbitant currency and time in campaigning for an essentially cooperative vocation seems ineffective and counter-intuitive to this Cooperative Party. We tend to nominate those candidates who invest the least in their campaigns for office. On the other hand, we do support  candidates with resources needed for public discernment, responsive to issues cooperatively and inclusively named and framed for their Positive Deviance TrimTab potential.

Dr. (0)’s Taoist Comments on Permacultural Development

When the people of the Earth all know the good as good,

The juxtapositional placement of verbs is an occidental poetic trait of dynamic time, to surprise and allow readers to draw their own balancing analogies.

 

Laotse would think of good primarily as confluent natural forms, functions, frequencies and flow, as found toward one end of a spiraling flow circle, and evil as dissonantly unnatural forms, dysfunctions, inaccessibly entropic frequencies, and reverse temporal flow at the other end. Evil is irrationally reverse-natural flow, like a river trying to flow both up and backward toward the past, a gravitational surf wave diastolically drawing back away from the shore to swell densely toward a distant place and time.

 

So, “being”for our Mentor and Poet Laotse becomes good confluently sustainable life; non-being is not living contentedly, a dissonant, dissipating quasi-incarnated chi-soul individuation process. Yang is also polynomial information being and Yin is non-polynomial reverse-temporal negatively balancing praxis teachings about where we might want to lose “non-being” (probably better transliterated for our culture as “negative” or “dissonance”) disvalues, in order for things to get better for us within our own consciousness, our own families, communities, economies, ecosystems, etc.

 

Laotse’s positive teleological assumption grows naturally and profoundly panentheistic. Our space is analogous to his Yang of positive physical binomial being. Time surfs a memory/imagine fold through a double-bound future synergetically RNA encoded Basic Fractal-Binary balanced Win-Win 4 equi-dimensional, stretching down and back along a dark liminal past horizon to a time when Sky God and Earth Goddess evolved from wind and water.

 

We were a time and place

where metaphysics emerged from metrically proportioned and patterned math,

humane children of naturally flowing systems

ReGenesis Project

It does appear we are all agreed that Earth and all inhabitants thereof are in a critical climatic and/or cultural transition. 
Within this transition, I see both degenerative and regenerative trends. These seem to ecologically and economically align along competitive v. cooperative optimization strategies, as these might appear in Systems Theory, Information Processing Theory and Praxis, and Ecological Sciences including Evolutionary Theories within NeuroSciences, Theoretical Physics, Positive Psychology, Multisystemic and Integral Therapy, Game Theory, and Mathematics–Group Theory.
Our optimal diapraxis as a Species would notice our currently emerging positive deviant paradigms; subcultures such as New Economics, cooperative politics, cooperative healthcare, cooperative vocations, intentional cooperative communities, cooperative residences, green-culture, Permaculture, Occupier, Gaia University, Food and Economic and Climate, Cultural, Earth Justice Advocacy and Investment/Divestment Policy Design.
It seems prudent to understand these shared core values as richly therapeutic seeds to plant strategically, within our more persistently dissonant and nihilistic, perhaps increasingly autistic-trending, culture.
Current pathological cultural, political, and economic trends:
  • continue under-investing in long-term lowest risk cooperative investments,
  • actively resist positive pro-life momentum, thereby turning away from Positive Deviant stories [because they are too dissonant, distant, frightening, dark, dismal to be believed while continuing to rest comfortably at night about our great-grand-children’s future prospects] with themes like Loss of Living Populations Diversity, trending toward flat-line, and, my personal favorite, Yes, Martha, The Sky Really is Failing.
So, we might respond to cooperatively positive opportunities presented by this Transitional Point/Era and Generation by mentoring cooperative investment in each other and those around us, culturally, politically, and economically.
And, we might sing and dance, share, design, develop, grow, fertilize, feed, harvest, regenerate more positive and polycultured narratives and gaming strategies within ourselves, our families, our communities, our ecosystems, cousin species, nations, and Earth.
A possible name that has been on my mind is ReGenesis Project.
Euler argued that our shared cognitive metrics evolve out of the primal dust of function, that a vector, a point, functions as a primal crossroad of two or more lines. In a tree’s primal architecture, and according to Julian Jaynes’ view of the relationship between our Left and Right hemispheres, the lower reverse-hierarchical root system provides the neural nutrients for what we productively deduce in our “above-ground” branches, and leaves, and flowers, pollinating regenerative potential for sustaining future generations.
 
I seem to be sitting firmly on a surf’s edge fence. On one side I am exhausted and want to retire to build a small eco-balanced forested habitat for myself and my diversely challenged, medically complex family, where we can grow each other’s therapy, as removed as feasible from competitive social and economic pathologies indigenous to weakened and limp ecological rationality within our not-so-humane natural culture.
 
On the other hand, I feel inspired to find out if NCDD, Tellus Institute, Gaia University, Work That Reconnects, Naropa University, BigBrothers-BigSisters, Kittering, Schumacher Foundation, Americorps/VISTA, Salvation Army, and/or the burgeoning U.S. cooperative network of technical assistance and loan providers might like to combine their wisdom in a council platform called Interhelp.com, that might allow us to prepare an interactive cooperative investment plan, including a mutual assets report and expense budget, to help reforest our habitat with a rich polycultural global ecosystem of diversely composted wealth for sustaining life with mutual gratitude, with grassroots leadership from those who are most marginalized, and at greatest risk of living without satisfactory fulfillment.
 
This surf’s edge fence sitting feels co-respondent to this Winter Solstice season. Maybe that’s why I feel inclined to hibernate my way through this particular crossroad.

Regenerative Systems indigenously share a Positive Teleological strategic assumption, which could also be framed as Reverse-Positive Tree-ological.

An obstacle, regarding hierarchical binary and ecological analogical tree design, to producing Win-Win cooperative strategic incentives, could be resolved by imaging the tree’s root system, rather than the above-ground branches and production end of a business that starts as the increasingly diastolically condensing of nutrients from diverse individual root “strings” if you will.

At the lowest level of our digital universal population are all the individual people, or individual households, which might be better if we want this game to include positive family values, which might include the value of working together so that everybody in the family feels heard, understood, and included.

At the next level might be neighborhoods or smaller community deliberation processes which cannot achieve at least (0)-sum positive/negative ecological value balance until every constituent household has achieved at least (0)-sum positive/negative ecological value balance.

And so it goes, to the level of larger urban area or bioregion, also not able to “Win” (0)-sum positive/negative ecological value balance until each constituent community has done so.

We might next have a letter for nations, and then for all nations, no one of which will ever achieve (0)-sum positive/negative ecological nutrient well-being value balance until every nation has done so.

Competitive, egocentric characters and corporations have no place to hide in this strategy; we will all recognize each other in our desire to do our part to help us win, together.

“Ecological” refers both to economic and natural-systemic environmental “ground of all being” positive teleological values.

“Teleological values” are those that hold together Original Meaning of global historic evolution, ethologically translated through the multisystemic analogies of future purpose, Buckminster Fuller’s (0) Core Vector Synergetics, David Bohms’ Implicating Physical Frequency Order, Gregori Perelman’s (and friends) (0) soul universal theorem in Group Theory.

In other words, we tend to find our therapeutic future abundance by minimizing pathological cultural trends; which I think is probably true of any good conversation at any level of this reverse-hierarchical Win-Win Tree Game we are already playing through Co-Intelligence found in the plasmatic ground of our Being.

Economic Conscience

We mature within each Other’s nutritional field, a Commons shared by all who approach and depart our consciousness.

This field we share with mutual subsidiarity because we generated these values and disvalues through our progenitors, Elders, all our past relationships, cultures, history, lead to this field of momentary consciousness within spacetime.

If I could unilaterally choose one extreme or the other, I would always choose to have a positive sustainable nutritious relationship, rather than a negative short-term terminal relationship, with anyone or anything, from spouse through alien species.

While I cannot and must not unilaterally choose each economy, whether cooperative or competitive, for any relationship, it also seems that I am not not You either, so I can mentor a positive relationship we might have in only my imagination and memory of other past relationships. I might speak of these images and memes as my preference for mutual gratitude, my hope and faith, my love of how not not You and not You already belong together in my ergetic id-consciousness.

Regenerative pacific consciousness, positively cooperative and inclusively relational, grows from basic enthymematic attendance, fueled by eco-id well-being.

My eco-identity, id, competes to give away my nutrients to those around me who most need them. While our Yangish egos emerge Eagle topped totems, our Yinnish eco-individuating under-stories Turkey rooted nutrient systems.

Perhaps Freud thought of our Basic Eco-Identity Commons as maniacal because of his fascination with insanity, pathology, internally competitive, dissonant models of unconscious awareness. Had he been a Positive Psychologist, then he might have come to a more positive consciousness of self-identity as primally, ecologically, economically informed by regenerative natural system development; which, by definition, grows relentlessly cooperative.

Our real, true, balanced competitive identity is one that competes to give, to cooperate, to grace, to incarnate together, synergetically, recognizing we are only this moment’s integrity, and our potential for either cooperative integrity or competitive disintegration will individuate, define, label, predicate, enervate,  our next moment together.

We cannot rationally, truly, share disintegration. Entropic negative trends away from full mindful consciousness follow a trajectory toward an autistic silo. Positive, integral relationships are phenomenologically and ecologically accessible to reason, confluent perception, “true” proportion and balance, Right-brained equilibrious access to our sensory receptors, neurons, minds, consciousness.

Cooperative, empathic, integral, inclusive consciousness is itself intrinsically positive, preferring synergetic pattern finding and resolving, while avoiding the toxicity of cognitive dissonance.

Competitive and negative intentions are, by definition, self-distorting, truncating, silos of merely ego-semi-consciousness.

Lack of full, or “true” consciousness is imbalanced awareness of (0)-centric value consciousness. Lack of mindfulness appears to be lack of “true” or full consciousness, and it is, but more specifically imbalanced value/disvalue information generates dissonance within our shared consciousness Commons, or Co-Intelligence.

Positive cooperative consciousness follows this Tao of intelligence by distinguishing confluent information from dissonant noise. Discernment of balanced inclusive consciousness grows much more abundantly, robustly, resiliently through mentoring praxis than merely speaking of our positive intentions.

We mature our resonant and optimized economies within each Other’s nutritional Information field, a Commons shared by all who approach and depart our grateful eco-consciousness.

Professor Swan’s EcoTherapeutic Home

Although a post-millennial Taoist, I avoid pretending any authority within cultural, evolutionary, or ecological histories, or most any kind of history, except perhaps my personal story, with which, sadly perhaps, I do so hope this treatise will not overly concern itself. I am other things as well, including a gay white, rather grandfatherly adoptive parent of four African-American teenagers, ranging 13 to 19, and the youngest, my only girl child, Yang, radiant with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) and Oppositional Temporal-Sequential Disorder (OD) when even at a moderate level of anxiety, which was, until the last few weeks, most of the time.

All that said, in my run-on sort of way, I have come back to the work of Laotse, and commentators, with some academic baggage including psychology, communication theory, philosophy, especially epistemology, holistic and panentheistic teleology (faith systems evincing meaning and purpose within the evolution of culture and information), systems theory, and then public administration, community and economic development, and, most recently, certification in Permaculture Design; which, at this point in our evolution might be more aptly re-labeled as Ecological Regenerative Development and Design because, while perhaps something may be permanent, it most certainly would not be culture, by definition a slow mutually-symbiotic radiant absorption of nutrients within an increasingly diastatic system, about to give birth to a transformed generation of reformulated function. Sounds like yeast to me.

My husband, and my second son, in their highly diverse ways, express concern about my memory and imagination juggling complex paradigmatic and temporal analogies, Alice in Wonderland conversations between mind and body, space and time, longing and belonging, physics and metaphysics, night and day, summer and winter, spring and fall, Yang and Yin.

I see Laotse as an Ecological Regenerative Designer-Shaman, writing an ecotherapy mentor manual to his intellectual and chi-optimizing organic progeny. Laotse feels informed by the flow and force functions of Earth’s natural systems, health and wellbeing, nutrition and values within not only moral/ethical frames of reference, but also metric, especially biometrically organized value-group systems and trends, like societies, and sages, and root systems, and rivers.

Pre-millennial astronomers were similarly fascinated by astrological patterns and rhythms. Perhaps my post-millennial perspective on ecological development and design derives from this same Original Natural Systemic Intent of Teleology, an intuitive responsiveness to icons of natural rhythmic change patterns and flow trends, development, and structure, regardless of paradigm, inclusive of psychotherapy, socioeconomic and cultural regenesis, economic and environmental therapy, but mainly about how to develop and maintain a safe and sane home with the capacity to grow organic wellness through incorporating global diversity.

I have been reading across multiple paradigms again. Apparently this is a bad habit that drives my husband nuts, or at least contributes to his dismay about my apparent lack of an appropriately prioritized, not to mention better organized, mind. Reading books about cosmology and psychotherapy and permaculture design, and economic policy simultaneously to see how they may inform each other, and the occasional Yes! or Scientific American magazine simulcasting, it’s hard to say exactly where this research project began. I might trace it back to slurping Mother’s nutrient stream of plasma, but something about reading Laotse, Julian Jaynes, Buckminster Fuller, and David Bohm together has shifted my perspective on my own retirement, and the apparent retirement from rationality of a too white Western wealthy male-dominant culture.

I  recall, about a year ago, discovering Positive Psychology. I first noticed the studies of identical twins, living with each other on a daily basis. They tend to look more alike than twins disassociated at birth, or even after reaching adulthood. More recently I saw pictures of long-time happily married couples, a whole lot of high school sweethearts who stayed sweet on each other for the duration. They tended to resemble each other, even facially sometimes, in ways that are more pronounced as elders than when they were young in their relationships. Not until a year ago did I notice that people who generally have positive, can-do, yet realistic attitudes (so mono-maniacal types are excluded), who tend to feel grateful within their relationships, for whom resentment and envy are anomalous feelings, anticipate their long-term prospects for contentment and success and joy, and continuing gratitude throughout their lifetime(s). These are generally happy, loving, kind people, often swimming in some nurturing form of learning/reflective culture, especially as they move into middle-age and beyond. These are the people with whom everybody wants to live. Or at least I do.

Perhaps significant, though, I find no evidence of white Western wealthier male dominance here. Although there are many with these Positive traits, these are far more deviantly shared with people who have had a more challenging time.

So, why do Positive people meeting this description, sidestepping viral irony, tend to live longer and healthier lives than the rest of us comparatively manic depressive and cynical “realists”? I read Norman Vincent Peale’s The Power of Positive Thinking when I was about ten, but I don’t remember anything that would predict why my tall handsome African-American husband would start looking and sounding more and more like me, and I, a not-so-tall and not so handsome white guy, would start looking and sounding more and more like him, and liking it less and less. This was not our plan twenty three years ago. We actually prefer our differences more than our similarities, I think. Or at least I do, or did, and I thought that was an illustration of my somewhat positive psychological health—attraction toward diversity.

Evolutionary psychologists explain why positive psychology is so positive, why happiness is healthier than ambivalence, at least in more chronic forms. They say positive is positive because we have better outcomes so this develops positive feedback loops that lead to more and better sex and progeny over more average years.

OK, so maybe I’m not as positive as I had positively hoped.

While this evolutionary ethology sounds right to me, it also feels like this alone would predict a run-away positive feedback loop. So happy kids would almost inevitably grow up to be successful, happy, contented, and grateful adults, and old people, and they would, by now, be in complete global control of our situation, and I could take a nap, without worrying about my grandkids’ future prospects. Maybe we have some systemic constraints on the density of positiveness that any one community or ecosystem, or white straight financially-comfortable Western male can realistically contain at this time. This evolutionary frame may predict survival benefits more humbly than actual flourishing outcomes.

Doesn’t Positive Psychology also at least imply that human nature is ecologically evolutionary, that underlying our individual ego-self identities lies our mutually subsidiary network of synergetic (0) sum eco-soul chi? Mutual confluence and gratitude resonates; while mutual immunity, tension, stress, dissonance creates considerable noise, decay, destitution, death. Is a positively balanced ego-consciousness a still-emergent formation foreshadowing our understory, an eco-network of well-rooted, positive/negative balanced, thermodynamically harmonious gravity flow and synergy? Are we body-ego-identified individuals exploring our positively intended evolution as mind-eco-cellular individuating (0)-sum chi soulfood for each Other, within our own bodies and merging minds, and environments, relationships, communities, language development, nutrient economies, our own homes and families? This sounds Positive, but also Permacultured, to me.

I suspect there may be some implicit Negative Psychology mixed in with our explicated Positive Psychology; a recognition of the therapeutic value of grief, of care-giving and care-receiving, of nurturance and heartbreak as a response to pain and loss, and extinguishment, or purgation, in some contexts, as a response to dissonance and turbulence; like when my teenage sons pop their ear buds back in and turn their backs—Cognitive Dissonance Theory at work.

If only the positive, happy, more enlightening, emotions and affect could lead to improved, more abundant happiness, then I would presume that those of us who tend to sometimes be at least a tad more dull, and blind to our own gratitude for belonging with each Other, would have long ago died out, probably before dinosaurs..Glee, success, happiness, brilliance, beauty, goodness do not fully explain personal and social and economic evolution, or we would all be a whole lot more positive by now.

A response may emerge by looking at why Positive Psychology bears the name “Positive” rather than other possibilities like “Therapeutic” or “Good” or even “Correct” or “True.” Or “Perfect,” why not Perfection Psychology or even Paradise Psychology?

According to Wikipedia.com, our mutual textbook in the clouds, “Positive Psychology…uses scientific understanding and effective intervention to aid in the advancement of a satisfactory life, rather than merely treating mental illness.” What distinguishes between an unsatisfactory life and mental illness? Why wouldn’t treating an unsatisfactory life also treat mental illness? Positive Psychology implicitly, or liminally, somehow, seems to respond to Negative Psychology, our cultural fascination with pathology as unsatisfactory.

The Positive branch complements, with no intention to replace or ignore, the traditional pathological foci of psychology. Those other, Negative psychologists, with remedial intentions, have their place inside our somewhat shared asylum. Those ready for, and actively seeking, the good life will learn about “using your signature strengths everyday to produce authentic happiness and abundant gratification.” (Martin Seligman, 2002). Presumably, if you want to learn to use your signature weaknesses everyday to produce authentic happiness and abundant gratification, then you need to move over to that other Negative branch, which, unfortunately, is so embedded in its pathological silo that the two branches are too often not even on speaking terms within the hearts and minds of psychologists.

Kirk Schneider points “to a body of research showing high positivity correlates with positive illusion, which effectively distorts reality.” High positivity, or “flourishing,” can generate a positive feedback loop rendering some self-delighted sap “incapable of psychological growth, unable to self-reflect, and tend to hold racial biases. By contrast, negativity, sometimes evidenced in mild to moderate depression, is correlated with less distortion of reality.” (wikipedia.com, Positive Psychology, Schneider, 2011, Toward a Humanistic Positive Psychology). This reminds me of how psychoanalyst mentor Harold F. Searles responded to Edward Podvoll when he was unclear about what more he could learn, ”Your problem is that you’re not paranoid enough.”

Depression, to take a sometimes personal example, may be a correcting, or TrimTab, tipping point away from run-away positively manic delusion, just as flourishing affect and feelings associated with ego-identity and relationships can be therapeutic for all that sad poetry I write during the winter that no one wants to read, including myself, when I’m feeling Positive, “flourishing.”

TrimTabs, from B. Fuller, are small deviant adjustment dynamics that reiterate positive and negative feedback functions between Positive Psychology and Negative Therapy, showing up in the amazing outcomes of the Positive Deviance Initiative (www.positivedeviance.org).

Positive Deviance is based on the observation that in every community there are certain individuals or groups whose uncommon behaviors and strategies enable them to find better solutions to problems than their peers, while having access to the same resources and facing similar or worse challenges.

The Positive Deviance approach is an asset-based, problem-solving, and community-driven approach that enables the community to discover these successful behaviors and strategies and develop a plan of action to promote their adoption by all concerned.

This is strategized and planned positive evolution, with regenerative neighborhood and community-level effects. It is, in Podvoll’s language, finding islands of relative sanity. For example, a few parents figure out how to grow well-fed kids without any more money than anyone else in a neighborhood of largely malnourished kids.  The Positive Deviance researchers interview those families as the first step in spreading their outcomes more broadly among the population. I presume the reverse-deviant behavior or affect or feeling, or all the above, truly is positive, and not involving flourishing kids in assaulting other kids for their school lunches. Maybe these kids are flourishing because they have better choices for breakfast and carry nutritious lunches from home instead of what everybody else at school is eating.

This idea of not only Positive Deviance but also, by implication at least, Negative Deviance spreading to optimize a mutually-valued level of long-term sustainability comes to mind as I look for Ecological Mentoring Communities and Homes. Like the Findhorn EcoVillage, for example. Where are our best therapeutic cooperative models for sustained intentional positive communal life? How would one go about replicating these cultural development models within a more diverse and inclusive culture?

Apparently not with Positive Psychology alone, but some TrimTab balance between the Yangish excesses of positively functional outcomes and the Yin negative-reflective mutuality of interdependent nourishment, economic subsidiarity. Loss, pain, dissonance, wilting flowers and thriving weeds, climatic distempers, violent and fear-filled communications acutely erupt into our lives, and sometimes chronically emerge into our relationships, our communally accepted norms, our willingness to compromise on our definition of “home” and “paradise,” and perhaps even “sanity,” due to realities of the moment.

I am looking for models to form and maintain and self-propel positively deviant residential communities. Three psychologists stand out for me. The first is Julian Jaynes. I may get back to him a bit later. The other two are psychoanalysts, Edward Podvoll (Recovering Sanity, 2003) with a Compassionate therapeutic model, developed through the Windhorse Project, and Laura S. Brown’s Feminist Therapy (Subversive Dialogues, 1994).

Brown is passionately eloquent about the dis-positive ego-softening state of listening and speaking awareness essential to empathetically resonant, resilient, sustained therapeutic relationship. “A feminist therapy ethics takes the stance that practitioner and client are allies in the process of transforming…” (p. 207). This idea of therapist and ally, as empathic mutual mentors listening for dynamic functionality within their cognitive and communication dysfunction goes by the name of Basic Attendance in Podvoll’s psychoanalytic model.

Basic Attendance may be to non-violent communication what compassionate mindfulness is to actively engaged discursive synergy. Perhaps Basic Attendance has more of a peace intention, while compassionate mindfulness carries a more Western linguistic preference for active love. All of these are born of the same synergetic fabric found ubiquitously in religious and scientific paradigms as mutually gravitational attracting energy, motion, time frequencies, integrative function and force.

Uncovering the existence of spontaneous, innate flashes of sanity can become the building blocks of recovery…. Learning the necessary skills of this approach, especially the methods of basic attendance, allows human intimacy to become the catalyst for recovery. (Podvoll, p. 318)

Human natural intimacy is basic attendance, which might also be defined as the implicated root, or enthymematic to, compassionate mindfulness, love, or even synergy—according to Buckminster Fuller’s original coinage of this term for negative entropy—the opposite of an established relationship is something different, and more “advent”ish, more actively hopeful, than the entropic absence of relationship.

Basic Attendance includes both an intention and a practice. Intention precedes practice, “In this sense, environmental [ecological?] awareness is not only the tool to create sanity in the household, it is also the fundamental healing discipline that the patient needs.” Basic Practice of Attendance evolves out of Compassionate Therapy as a “fundamental healing discipline” ordained, perhaps quite literally, by ecological multisystemic awareness, or perhaps even a more active prehension of “Other-ness” within. “The secret of such intimacy can be learned and practiced; it is called the discipline of ‘exchange’.” (Podvoll, p.. 318) This seems to more-or-less bring us back to Brown’s feminist and holistically integral empathy.

Stretching to include human nature’s full living and often quite deviant diversity, I suppose ecological natural system awareness disciplines would include intentional breathing together, and noticing the pace of our heart rhythms, perhaps movement, exercise, artistic expression, poetry and story-telling, but also the mundanely unmystical habit of listening in full left- and right-hemispheric balanced stereo, and perceiving and feeling and absorbing and generating full sensory nutrient positive potential in full left-right hemispheric balanced stereo.

Julian Jaynes’ evolutionary theory of left-brained emergent linguistic dominance might suggest a cranial understory of reiterative, double-boundaried, Eco-Connected-SelfOtherPrimeRelationship-Mind-Right and Ego-Self-Identified-Body-Left-Languaged accessibility to and from older-brain encoded information. R.D. Laing, Gregory Bateson, Buckminster Fuller, and Robert Norton all look at diverse paradigmatic relationships between double-bind prime identification duality, emergence of binomial—analogic and digital, bipolar, and dual-nature polarities, autistic dissonant communication silos, and the ethological emergence of ego-body-self-identity awareness seminally accessible with the evolution of double stimulation capacity. (See Robert Norton’s Communication & Consequences: Laws of Interaction, p. 101) Self and Other are mutually individuated by knowing not only that when Other touches my arm I can feel this on my arm, but also when Self pinches my arm I can feel this on my arm and on my hand. Self is both subject progenitive, predicative, and object, response, outcome, in some (0)-sum balanced ego-core identity; or Not-Self-Otherness.

Non-violent communication analyzes the distinctly pathological problems that emerge from listening only with one ear and seeing only with one ego-centric eye. Feminist therapy reminds us that optimizing therapists choose to give fully balanced weight and credence to any functional intention of Other’s voice and movement, through empathic listening and responding with a voice or movement, music, rhythm, pace, flow, frequency, force this particular Other, in this particular moment might be able to recognize as confluently responsive.

When my non-verbal son, Yin, screeches and shouts and pops his lips with a sequence of rhythms and pitches, creating a repeatable sequence, he listens more attentively when I repeat these sounds back to him, more or less the way they sounded to me. For my reward, he shows the dimple on the right side of his mouth. Because I frequently get to see this dimple, I recognize myself as a well-trained Ecotherapy student; but Yin is, so far, the only effective verbal-pattern linguistic teacher in our mutually-therapeutic relationship.

When my probably insane daughter throws her food, jumps up from the table and runs away, I have learned to stretch further to see and hear through her functional neural system. It looked rather like one of her internal voices sounded an alarm, “Oops, alien incoming! Run away!!!

The most positive response in my arsenal was to see this as time to clear up her mess and go read a good book. But, when she was ready to come back to the crime scene, she wanted to eat the food off our floor (not something for the faint-hearted to even consider) rather than clear it up with a broom and mop.

When I responded with a cease and desist!, her response ranged from angry panic, incessant wailing despair, to loud protestations to the effect, “I’m hungry! Not just hungry; but hungry for this food on this wall and floor!”

With time, and more reflection on what response might Basic Attendance invite to my daughter’s dysfunctional alarm, it came to me that the alarm itself is not dysfunctional; it is my interpretation of her alarm’s meaning that was too myopic. My challenge was to regain positive and active faith in her functional intent to take care of herself. Soon after I remembered that Yang will take care of herself before she will do anything else, because she is profoundly ego-identified, it occurred to me that maybe I should jump up and run with her to her bedroom sit down on the floor with her, hold her if she will let me, and ask her what happened and why were we running away from the mashed potatoes, with gravy, and butter.

While initially all I got was silence, this was already better than all that wailing and terror. Eventually we got to I don’t know. Shortly after that, to Who threw my dinner? I’m hungry! That was when I began to have restored faith that there was a positive, yet alarming, method in her madness. She began to teach me about oppositional temporal disorder, reversed memory of cause and effect when under moderate to high stress conditions, and confusion between agent and victim, Self and Other-ness.

Yang’s reverse-synaptic affective response to her environment as a negative and toxic place for living cells probably started with her first baptism in alcohol. As she has matured and found her moments of sane nurturing relationships breaking through the insanity of her neural-hostage environment, her anxiety level has dissipated. Yang continues to mature, helped along by some music and dance and game therapy, playing with cause, effect, and reciprocal, reiterative, and appositional-oppositional temporal sequencing. Reverse role playing, story-telling with peaceful and harmonious words but saying them mean and ugly, and vice versa, ritualistic absurd name calling all have become idiosyncratic to our mutually trusting, playful, often humorous, positively expressive relationship.

Ecological awareness is feeling and hearing and seeing Self and Other with both eyes, as interdependent holons within Earth’s positive evolutionary, explicating, incarnating order. Karmic purpose unfolds as grace’s meaning, as karma’s practice enfolds grace’s intent. Borrowing from Basic Attendance but also Permaculture Design, we can choose to optimize polycultural nutrient absorption by minimizing ego-dominating distractions, predators, and dissonant assumptions of malignant intent. Bicameral basic attendance learns that well-balanced egos prehend indigenously within self-perpetuating, self-defining eco-centric EarthTribe design and development natural flow trends, functions, information. We each evolve part of Earth’s way, truth, and life; each of these three words is used to define Tao and, by Jesus of Nazareth, to define Messiah, as a new millennial manna.

Buckminster Fuller might recognize mutually symbiotic Attendance within our multi-systemic environment as a metaphysically real true way, or Universal Intelligence.[1] Fuller presciently committed intelligent permacultured design to the core TrimTab balancing principle of Greatest Effect with Least Waste, or loss of value, or least retention of dissonant values and frequencies and functions. His TrimTab mechanism later was labeled as the “tipping point” within a dynamic system in process of reversing one or more energy or information flow trends. A Trimtab’s (0) Core Vector is a “digital” view of optimized confluent analogical frequency trends, and minimized dissonant frequencies; optimized energy and information. TrimTabbing predicates consciousness value-balancing within any dynamic relationship trending toward prime, primal, or seminal; a significantly harmonious threshold toward emergently confluent ways, or Tao. Tipping points are emergently diastolic balanced flow, with reduced dissonant turbulence, moving toward some new/old diastatic, mutually enculturing stage of systemic relationship, synergetically merging two interdependent but complexly diffused, and sometimes confused, entities into one organically evolving form of stasis.

TrimTabs are tipping points in cultural self-designing moments and eras, increasing our collective prime comprehension, conceivability, compassionate mindfulness. They are balancing trend changes of function and form and frequency generating new moments of mutual sanity, or at least reiteratively building exchanges of values, words, thoughts, conceptual forms and structures that appear to have harmonious resonance between communicating minds and bodies wanting to head in the same balanced direction.

Prime mindfulness emerges from a formative infolding/outflowing intuition: just as Self identity grows through successfully individuating Not Eco-Other, so Not Eco-Other reveals our universal prime replicating teleological and ecological fractal relationship, with 50% Yang Self-Body ego-identity boundary covering [positive correlates with geometrically convex, when you learn to speak Fullerian, or Buckminstermess] our 50% interior eco-Yin chi-soul embryonic mind [negative correlates with concave], together self-perpetuating interdependent individuation, lived in balance on the cusp of each interdependently eco-self-consciously eternal temporal moment, our  mutually symbiotic event of shared consciousness.

We need not deeply comprehend primal layers of Basic Attendance to understand  Fuller’s prime relationship of 4-based geometric dynamic physics, and the process of in-formating, and 6-based metaphysical prime stage-flow functions, like color and sound round octaves shaped by Pythagorean iconic codes of value, or 2-based prime temporal-ergetic polarity, +radiant Eulerian primal horizontal cross fractal-functional perspective OVER (-)ergetically gathering, synergizing, concaved frequency temporal trend, the dark bottom view of a tornado spinning away from you, temporal spin assumption of clockwise [temporal natural flow patterns “from below” would be the dark understory view of a tornado spinning a spiraling temporal-flow string of memory back in time traveling away from you] = Right hemisphere toward Left hemisphere across elliptical space, Left toward Right across polar-linear time sequence and appositional staging seasons.

Somehow it all feels like it is soaking into our global analogically saturating culture right now, this companionship between physics and math and teleology and evolution and ecopsychology and new economics and cooperative gaming theory, and then back to Bayesian trend analysis of QBits, or Qits, or whatever quixotic quarky name we have for implicately analyzed big data-set trend strings of confluent prime spacetime relationships within overall regenerative  Hilbert-space strategic development trend-normative story lines. This generates a permacultured nutrient rich and sustained well-being frequency, full-octave, with a sometimes alarmingly, and often surprising, bipolar temporal intent, and autonomic intuition of frequency polarities.

Temporally emergent functions and stage-frequencies follow an ecological rhythm and pattern like RNA, or the four annual seasons, or the light and dark sections of a day. In Dharma and Development, Dr. Joanna Macy discusses a development fractal following this same pattern:

  1. NOTICE: metta–loving kindness
  2. HOPE: karam—compassion and/or grief [I would translate as confluence and/or dissonance, within information and communication theory]
  3. FAITH: mudita—joy in the joy of others; confluence/sorrow in the confluence/sorrow of others; trust in the trust of others; informating through informating with others; incarnating through incarnating as Integral Eco-Other Positive mythos/logos, eisegetical/exegetical string species
  4. LOVE/ACTIVE PEACE WITH JUSTICE: uppekkha—equanimity/integrity optimized value balance; a great, and deep, peace Tao of balanced equity.

So, in Bloom’s Taxonomy of deep learning, we start with

  1. an enthymematically emergent noticing of potential information,
  2. through hope of confluence researched,
  3. through faith therein reported, and finally
  4. comparatively analyzed and synthesized for analogous ecologies and economies with prior regenerative memory cycles and metric systems and language paradigms;

Basic Attendance metta is to hope, as faith is to love;

as LINE is to COSINE is to LTR is to Fuller’s (0) Core Vector fractal prime relationship;

as winter’s advent is to springing hope,

as summer’s faith fulfills in abundant Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Permaculture Design and Development optimized prime cooperative information and functional-synergetic value harvests;

as Uracil is to Cytosine,

so is Adanine to Guanine;

as + is to (-),

so is Polynomial Yang+ QBit

Reverse Not-Polynomial Yin(-)QBit..

This EcoTherapy is symbiotically and binomially born of  digital binary information ecosystemic theory and from a deeply inclusive permacultured Golden Rule, expressing each person’s positive cognitive intent through Basic Attendance  described as our mutually enculturing, empathic, and intuitively enthymematic practice of reflecting each other’s sanity by discovering analogies within our own experience and imagination, our extant range of frequency and functional and formative awareness of natural/organic/holonic potential (e.g. role play, music, gaming exercises, movement, meditation, stress reduction and artistic expressive therapies). Basic Attendance is to actively peaceful, “safe” and harmonious expression what non-violent communication is to dissonant- and risk-avoidant information patterns, like the stuff of Cognitive Dissonance Research. Cognitive Dissonance is the opposite of Basic Attendance, which grows nutrient positive roots for growing more sustainable Positive Deviance trends, especially within currently abused and neglected populations, species, neighborhoods and bioregions.

Anyway, getting back to my crazy oppositionally afflicted reverse-temporal synaptic daughter, she and I were both able to laugh at our dysfunctional fears when I was able to share with her that she threw that vegeburger and ran away so fast, I was sure it had teeth and had bitten her on the nose. She found that image amusing, and perhaps humoring this pathology helped her loosen her fearful grasp a bit, to hang on to our shared intentionally co-passionate and mindful moment of positive integral ecotherapy. It helped each of us to hear the other, and ourselves, laughing about that fearsome vegeburger. Laughter, perhaps literally, absorbs dissonant information, it is medicinal, as is joy, and all those attributes associated with Positive Psychology.

Perhaps what is still missing for me in Positive and (negative) remedially-oriented  ecopsychology theory is something that might help explain why an old widow and her not quite so old boxer look like cousins sometimes. Can we predict the evolution of body and mind confluence by optimizing multisystemic information and energy confluence in each of our relationships, each moment, each choice of word and song and dance and value? Is this not what we mean by Basic Attendance, and/or compassionate mindfulness?

How might we spread this rich compost of Basic Polycultural Attendance throughout our most cooperative and permacultured enterprises? Throughout the places in time and moments in space where those who are not wealthy straight Western adult males, 40-70, will have one of Laura Brown’s Subversive Dialogues about ecotherapeutic cooperative care for homes and families, businesses and vocations, learning and designing and developing regenerative systems and relationships.
