She usually hears with her lungs.
He typically sees with his heart.

Until these two learn to take turns,
inhaling

Sighed Earth’s River

I heard a new term today,
sighed Earth’s River,
“spiritual intelligence.”

I have become familiar with
cognitive intelligence,
before that emotional intelligence,
before that contextual intelligence,
similar to climate intelligence
throughout life’s tributaries,
branches
and root well-springs.

My waters do not claim these are strengths;
more familiar as opportunities
for further flowing redevelopment.

But,
just as I am not entirely clear
where emotional awareness ends
and environmental noticing begins,
so too,
where might Earth’s physical context end
and sacred Spirit’s awareness transcend signs
seen,
sighs heard?

I wonder,
rooted in my ego-centering experience,
if feelings flow toward ego inside wet identity
as contextual warm intelligence
ebbs from eco-outside co-investment;

If eco-political context,
empowering and disempowering
natural flowing energies,
welcomes,
invites,
embraces,
baptizes with awe and wonder,
spiritual intelligence of universal individuation,
river-bedded identity
co-arising heart-felt rhythms,
breath
surfing up and down,
smiles clown
and frowns crown

Polypathic signing language,
polyphonic rhythm,
polyculture flowing systems,

Analogical EarthNature
unveiling metaphoric Spirits,

Secular purpose
compelling sacred meaning

Signing reasons,
sighing seasons
pushing up
and flowing down.

Positive Directions

If you have some negative judgment
aimed directly at me, and only me,
I prefer,
in fact require,
expect,
demand you verbally
and directly confront me
with that distancing blame,
assaulting my ignorance
and failures of compassion,
too active dispassion,
furthering Earth’s emerging win/lose dissonance,
violence,
toxic climates
and egocentric narcissism;

Or, informed more fully by nonviolent communication

I am feeling sad,
disappointed in our relationship,
shut down,
angry
because I want our mutual compassion,
my vulnerability to you,
and yours to me,
our cooperatively-held trust,
to invite your directly communicated curiosity,
your hypothetical questions,
your transparency
honesty
integrity
when you observe some message from me
that feels like it carries negative energy,
lack of compassion,
too assertive
past a tipping point of aggression,
a potential trigger for past win/lose stress,
traumatic experience,
miseries of unfortunate events,
dissociation,
cognitive/affective dissonance,
the momentary despair
of not being fully listened to
with compassionate appreciation,
as we each deserve
within this interdependent web
of win/win polypathic
polyphonic
polyculturing
ego/eco-political life.

Yawns and germs
are both contagious.

So are smiles and frowns,
happy and sad,
joy and mad,
right side ups
and left side downs.

As are
good news and angry stews
health and pathology
anxious and ease
wealth and poverty
investment and divestment
compassion and violence,
positive theological experience
and negative competitive ecology.

Punishment and healing
are both contagious.

So are
injustice and peace
retribution and restoration
clean and grease
degeneration and regeneration
dying and living,
hating and loving.

My next right climate,
environment,
home,
will amply express interdependent health values,
need for belonging,
wanting to grow in resonant meaning,
cooperative resilient becoming

Will be felt
to become known;
Will be ego-known
to become eco-home.

Some inside/outside interdependent climates
are a better known fit for Now

And Now is this timeless moment

Viral rabidity
dark depression closes in
egocentric

claustrophobic feelings
against overpopulated sick inhumanity,
competing ravenous clans
overwhelming individual rights
opportunities
health
autonomously-held capital wealth.

And then violently
politically explodes
internally devouring,
pregnancy rates collapsing,
eating
and extracting
and divesting,
abusing and neglecting
our young
and old,
disabled
and vulnerably weak.

Global climate health crises
close in ego-sequestration
rumination
recusing ourselves from communication,
away from cooperative investment,
sharing touch and breath,
remembering what makes our hearts race
and slowly grow too quiet

And then non-violently explode
restoring peace of ease,
setting aside retributive justice against disease
as a secondary effect
of ecological healthy relationships
predicting unprecedented theological wealthy compassion
for Earth’s global interdependent analogical climates
optimizing resilient organic wealth
of Earth’s most resonant health.

And Still We Search

I’ll be turning 68 this spring
and still looking for a health wealthy home.

This feels remarkably like a younger traveler’s game,
with less baggage
and furniture
and tools.

Embarrassing
for an ecotherapist
to be so Earth-habitat unrooted.

Not to indulge in self-shaming,
yet my youngest son,
dependent on EarthTribe to support him
because of physical and verbal dysfunction,
is especially threatened
by Dad’s disability
to seek deep and wide root systems
of affiliation
with natural and spiritual neighbors.

My support system
continues with good faith feedback
that every challenge represents opportunities to learn
and doing so keeps us feeling young,
flexible,
even springy,
optimistic.

I wonder how much older I would feel
if I had never left my family farm birthplace
in Michigan
where this nomad epic wandering
was first inspired
to run into young adulthood
on my own two strong legs
and back
and more orthodox mind.

Now more imaginatively stimulated
by heretical thoughts of a well-cushioned rocker
next to a comforting fire,
surrounded by neighbors,
people
and birds,
squirrels
and rabbits,
chipmunks
and woodchucks,
fox
and shy coyotes,
wild turkeys
and horses
and cattle,
sheep
and goats,
mother trees
and lilac bushes,
a blue lake
and a green alpine mountain,
a shade speckled rocky river…
And still I search
for compassionate companions
on this daily revolving journey
through Earth’s nutrition nurturing seasons
active and dormant,
light with rain and snow,
sometimes feeling far too fast
and sometimes anciently slow…

And still we search,
my son and I,
for yet another right place to go.
