I began hearing you as not just narcissistic
and uncaring about the health and security of my Galveston grandkids,
not to mention our whole extended family

along coastal Texas over the next 100 years,
but sometimes I think you still confuse healthy conservatism,
which goes way back in our matriarchal nurturing days and ways,
with what sounds more like nihilistic condemnation
of any regeneratively humane future
for economic and politically empowering ecological health,
nondually co-arising like Grandmother Moon
and Gaia Earth,
who gave birth to matriarchally conservative nurturing me,
and therefore also still organically conserving biosystemic you,
my honey sweet smart girl.

I wish you had spent less time defending your right to freely express your mind and feelings,
which, indeed, brother Trevor was not contesting,
so you could have spent more time sharing your mindfulness
about our healthy and secure future,
which continues to be at degenerative risk
by further white male plutocratic domination,
as if patriotically Christian and Enlightenment
ForeFathers would have wished to see
my grandkids moving from Galveston,

Somehow I think you lost the first chapter

It is at least interesting to turn life’s political economy backward
through reverse-time focus.

Life’s memories of an uphill journey,
perhaps even a sacred pilgrimage,
toward an ultimate death of ego identity,
giving way voluntarily, or not,
to Earth’s regenerative potential, or not.

Let’s call this ecoconsciousness of light

As we mature,
we ascend and wonder
if and how and when we might ever reach what we so hope will be a WinWin
health and wealth abundant outcome,
somehow against the biological odds of decay,
for all future lives we dread leaving behind,
despite our original uphill problem
of egocentric death,
purgation.

As we approach older age of ominous portent,
youth’s omnipotent hopes more or less dashed,
it is remarkably easier to turn our mindbody image backward
toward our original embryonic becoming,
and marvel at our journey toward this time and place,
this almost eternally summarizing moment
of ego identity emergence.
Now easier looking down the vista of distance gained
to encourage ourselves about how cleverly and often clumsily,
yet inevitably,
we have arrived on this pilgrimage toward ego death as ecoconscious freedom,

it is easier to remember I cannot help a child,

Muddy Tree Family

I’m planting trees today.
Cherry trees in front,
Peter on the street,
Paul in the middle,
with Mary closest in toward the house,
all on the far side of our gravel drive.

On the same southern side,
along my neighbor’s new above the eyebrows 8-foot fence,
backside facing me,
which is fine,
more backdrop character for vines and ivy,
preferably less poisonous,
I also plant three larger fruit trees,
Dillen first,
then Spencer,
then Daquan,
after my three sons
in that original adoption-planting order.

Then, by the front porch
on northern side,
an apple tree
named Marvin after Gaye,
my first love before I knew what mine felt right like.

Three thornless blackberries
planted in the back,
Matthew first, of course,
with shared Beatitudes,
then Mark, progenitor of gospel vocation stories,
then Luke the ecotherapeutic Medicine Bush,
luxuriously black berryed, Agape.

All this vast recently adopted extending family
to greet and nourish my multiculturally mutually adopted,
and sometimes quite dysfunctionally malnourished,
human fractured family,
but rarely allowed to go to bed angry or frightened,
at least by each other.

While planting I go in and through our home
with my muddy gardening shoes,
remembering my mother’s exasperated voice,

I’ll just bet he does,
she responds,
as I reach for broom and dustpan.

Then later,

I can hear her thinking
as I plant Peter, then Paul,
