Basic Multisystemic Compassion

As I approached David Bohm’s Wholeness and the Implicate Order I anticipated easy resonance with his philosophy, but was concerned I would be lost in his symbolic math. I had no idea that he had any interest in language or anything that might approach a meta-philosophy of linguistics.

I probably don’t understand enough of this to even successfully explain why it feels so compelling to me, much less why I hope it will be compelling to you. Even so, let me set the stage for his rheomode chapter with a few sentences that grabbed me.

 

…in the present inquiry the rheomode will be concerned mainly with questions having to do with the broad and deep implications of our overall world views which now tend to be raised largely in the study of philosophy, psychology, art, science and mathematics, but especially in the study of thought and language themselves…. …the dominant form of subject-verb-object tends continually to lead to fragmentation, and it is evident that the attempt to avoid this fragmentation by skillful use of other features of the language can work only in a limited way, for, by force of habit, we tend sooner or later, especially in broad questions concerning our overall world views, to fall unwittingly into the fragmentary mode of functioning implied by the basic structure. The reason for this is not only that the subject-verb-object form of the language is continually implying an inappropriate division between things but even more, that the ordinary mode of language tends very strongly to take its own function for granted,… …because the ordinary mode of thought and language does not properly call attention to its own function, this latter seems to arise in a reality independent of thought and language so that the divisions implied in the language structure are then projected, as if they were fragments, corresponding to actual breaks in ‘what is’. (pp 39-40)

 

Bohm chooses rheo because it means “flow”; so he sees rheomode language structure as flowmodal. For reasons that I hope to support as we go along, I believe Bohm’s rheomode may translate effectively as “ecological.”

My first question has to do with how universally true is this “subject-verb-object” fragmentation of language. Here Bohm speaks of its ubiquitous culturally fragmenting effect especially when discussing things that are Whole Systemic like universal principles and nature and spirituality, dogma and metaphysics. But is it true that nouns always act as static nomials and verbs take all the dynamic action in all languages, is there a linguistic cultural divide in this respect between more Eastern enculturated language, as compared to Western encultured language? Is this as true in aboriginal, unwritten languages, as of post-industrial evolving language? Are there possibly ethological linguistic trends that might distinguish between Northern and Southern hemispheres, germane to this tripartite distinction between progenitive/subject-generative/verb-regeneration/object linguistic functions?

Regardless, Bohm’s ecological rheomode concentrates full language attention on holistic implications of verbs, language as iconic of process, change, development as well as implicating stasis, solidarity, and unraveling. Verbs, verbals, have this binomial function, dialectical form of explicit thesis-function and implied antithesis-appositive dysfunction. Dynamic linguistic function is diametric, binomial analogically and, therefore, binary-balanced digitally. Perhaps analogical information is to binary-coded polynomial information as digital information is to bionically-encoded language-pattern.

Bohm processes us through a 7-stage unfolding of basic verbal bionic function. Language evolves essentially bionic because it grows through a prime relationship between Self (ego) and Other (eco/echo/reiterating environmental input). Self is my information processor, receiving both Interior Landscape (B. Fuller’s Metaphysical Constant Concave Universe) and Exterior Landscape (Fuller’s Physical Convex Universe) messages. Both categories of messages are linguistically articulated only in our left hemispheres. Both categories of messages are temporally-neurally aptic/synaptic affectively received and fractally (4-based logical metric system) co-prehended, intuited, predicated, encoded, implicating memories resonant with RNA/DNA encrypted double-elliptical plasmatic fold/flow/force patterns, defaulting to retain ionic, and bionic, balance.

Just as it is not possible to have a “true” information system that is not binary-balanced, it is not true information that is not binomially structured, with a positive polynomial +form-function that is negatively dipolar correlated with –(-) polynomial equivalently ionic disbalancing chaotic dissonance; an implicit intuited antithesis completing the 100% truth value of each language space-time event. Cognitive awareness, and therefore the development of expressive language, and word choice, is an enthymematic dialogue between right brain’s natural systemic design and development experience, and left brain’s eisegetical hypothesis that what ego’s senses are absorbing remains normatively confluent with our prior unfolding of time encultured memory network.

For now, I want to narrow Bohm’s 7-stage (open-ended octave) taxonomy of  nomials into what appear to me to be the more primal 4-base stages. He analyzes several words as rheomodes. We will use his analytical structure for additional words:

Form

Reform—to form again; spatial dimensions+=+, temporal linear dimension (-)before=(+)now

Reformant [reforming, reform-ionic]—is formant in this now, so choice of form is functionally “Truing”

Irreformant [negative reform-ionic]—is not formed now, so choice of form is functionally “Falsing”

 

When I replace reform with inform, then it becomes easier for me to see not-informant as dissonance, noise, the reception of a message without nutriently redeeming value; lack of confluence, absence of a good as well as absence of truth at this time.

Generate

Regenerate—to conceive again

Regenerant—regenerating now, truing confluent with encoded experience

Irregenerant—negative degenerating-ionic, generative trend is falsing, out of formative and functional potentiating balance.

Nature

Renature—to incarnate, an incarnational linear-string identity of historical continuity

Renaturant—confluent syncing with internal right brain true/good natural experience

Irrenaturant—dissonating from natural systemic order

 

For me, although apparently not for Bohm himself, the logic implied within these fractal forms becomes more transparent if I use co or eco where Bohm uses re and rheo; these are essentially binomially-fractal flow rhythms and patterns of logic and ecologic.

I realize these thoughts have taken some bold analogical leaps, but I believe that if we embrace the basic prime fractal relationship between Interior Landscape’s right-brain dominant ecologic as a reverse corollary of the Exterior Landscape’s left-brain dominant logic, we can uncover empirical, scientific, deductively sequential, logical, rational, as well as good and beautiful and regenetically effective evidence that cognitive dissonance is what happens when co-incidention does not. In other words, we can only cognize as true and logical, right and fair and just, beautiful and good, graced karma what does not cause chaotic temporal-neural flow chaos between our right and left dominant co-incidental pattern and rhythm code memory, within our amazingly binomial information processing DNA speciated brains.

Both psychological and physical/geometric/biometric evidence combine as I comparatively analyze Buckminster Fuller’s Synergetics, Julian Jaynes’ ethological cultural analysis of the left-brain’s evolution of language (The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind). Jaynes’ conjectures have only been further supported by subsequent split-brain research. However, his choice of “breakdown” was important for his historical interest in the evolutionary relationship between consciousness and identity, and, if he were rewriting for a post-millennial audience, he would probably invest rather more ink in our bicameral buildup of right-left equi-valent permacultural balancing trends. That said, his historical evolutionary analysis remains germane for noticing this fractal flow-trend within language and ecological economies of natural systemic value, virtue, nutrition, medicine, health, mental health, power, function, form, information, and ionic/bionic ergetic frequencies.

I find natural (inclusive of human natural) fractals as deeply embedded in our Interior Landscape as Buckminster Fuller, Gregory Bateson, Guy Murchie, and others find within Earth’s, even the Universe’s, natural design and development stages and frequencies and forms. So much so that analogical fractals and polymorphic fractals resolve as ecological and logical regenerative Prime Relationship Fractal Systems.

Comparing synergetic organic paradigms, the unfolding economy of love (Fuller mentioned love as a synonym for how he understood the action of synergy) and seasoned integrity, perhaps wisdom, becomes analogous with Fuller’s fractal unfolding of Universal Intelligence.

Regenerative systemic process follows a redemptive economic cycle, in which we intend to “buy back,” reinvest in those outcomes with the best sustained yield-value and least risk of over-unbalancing-investment. Risk aversion itself seems to recommend becoming as cooperatively self-invested as environmental circumstances allow, as a first-tier priority for OCQI yield development. Self-redemptive economies lead to mutually-(co)redemptive economies, lead to self-regenerating Climax Community development, into perpetuity, or permaculturally.

I suspect there may be profound implications for merging linguistic and nutritional health paradigms. For example, I am aware of two psychotherapeutic models rooted in Buddhist philosophy: dialectical behavior and compassionate. They each have their strengths and they are not in any way dissonant with each other. Their primary distinction may be their point of original linguistic perspective. Dialectical behavior therapy comprehends self-identity within a fundamentally Thesis v Antithesis logos/language intellectual and feeling environment. Here we are encouraged to balance our grasping instincts with our immune-aversive instincts. Compassion therapy begins with a Basic Attendance Self-EcoEnvironmentally co-passionate mutual mentoring enthymematic hypothesis, which implies an equivalent +/(-) binomial Thesis/Antithesis Zen Vortex of mindful potential. Compassionate awareness, or love, or synergy, becomes the synergetic holonic balancing of +Thesis-ego-identity with –(-)Antithesis-bionic economical individuation. Mutually appreciated therapeutic benefits now, and anticipated for the future, is what sustains healthy interdependent minds, communication, relationships, intentional communities.

Switching to a Taoist frame, where I have more familiarity and linguistic comfort, this Positive Teleological self-identity information string, following the regenerative evolutionary and revolutionary trends of enculturing history, is the  convex force/form-power/solidarity of Yang; regeneratively completed and dialectically-binomially-economically cooperatively and mutually balanced by concave flow/function-dipolar reflective subsidiarity of co-incidentally reverse proportioning/distortioning/torquing/wavilinear/individuation unraveling Yin’s bi-functional role within Yang-quantic, or ionic, identity. Regenerative Tao balancing trends may be temporally viewed as Yin-prescient to Yang’s linguistic self-consciousness moment, as well as coincidentally wavilinear within each regenerative trending primal event-moment relationship.

Within binary information systems this seems to translate into +1.00% Polynomial information is temporally-linearly equivalent covalent with (+/-)0 QBit Polynomial Bayesian analysis trends.

Why do I think you would care about this?

Perhaps because I read Laura Brown’s feminist psychotherapy work (Subversive Dialogues) before I ran into Compassion Therapy, and something going viral that I think is called Health Home, I have trouble seeing any difference in how they describe an optimally therapeutic linguistic, or rhetorical, or dialectic/dialogical multisystemic environment. When I began my current journey toward verbally and sometimes nonverbally silencing my aversion to what I don’t find compelling in my Oppositionally Disordered daughter, and, instead actively looking for ways to appreciate her Positive functionality, reinforcing and growing her strengths and assets, assuming her screechy-scratchy dissonance has a positive-functional ethological evolutionary role for her, and for our relationship, then I find myself enjoying her more, and she appears to enjoy me more.

 

Anyway, I have certainly not done justice to the linguistic potential you might find in David Bohm’s rheomode, whether it works as a synonym for ecological flow function for you or not. Unfortunately, like Buckminster Fuller, he was an even worse writer than am I. It is easy to get lost in our long, complex strings of interactively dynamic analogies. This, however, is an unfortunate communication challenge for those with a polypathic way of using our nutrient-absorbing sensory receptors. Something I intuit that we might share, or you would not still be reading this.

Dia-Language as Orthopraxis

What are some differences between casual conversation and more discernment-intended dialogue?

Dialogue may be rooted in diapraxis, in turn regeneratively learned through the primal orthopraxis of verbal patterns and rhythms, forms with functions and “right”-pitched frequencies.

Discussion and discernment seem difficult through merely written language symbols, iconic logos, because these words and their patterns emerged from our more richly “meme” composted praxis, practice, incarnation, being and becoming, both our Right and Left hemispheres are diapraxis progenitive.

Spatial and temporal delivered “story-telling” information contextualizes both the purpose of language as objective-nomial symbol-content but also emerges, evolves our shared context of intuited choice intention as verbal, verbed, active, action-becoming communication and information for us within this specific rhetorical context. Word choice, pitch frequencies, rhythm, pattern and flow, alliterative intention, metaphors of action and verb choice each contribute allegorical, analogical Information to our emergent positivist dynamic of language-stringing within this moment’s eco-logic; eco-logos lying both positively intended and enthymematically within dialogue’s continuing invitational potential.

Orthopraxis, as a regenerative replacement for facilitated discernment, derives from “orthopsychiatry,” prophylactic psychiatry concerned especially with incipient mental and behavioral disorders (Webster’s Collegiate). Diapraxis is an emergent culture of communication and information-gathering skill-sets with roots in multisystemic and integral therapy, skilled Dynamic Facilitators able to reflect and summarize ecological language patterns, Positive Deviance therapists, EcoMinisters and EcoTherapists.

Orthopraxis is an ecological and permacultural frame for fusing Right-hemispheric intuitive temporal orthodoxy with Left-hemispheric deductive, reflective, and octavely-patterned sensory  intent and practice. Diapraxis reiteratively and redundantly informs through what we do and do not do, in dialogue with what we say and do not say; a primal fractal frame for collectively imaging our emergent orthopraxis.

This communication and information-systemic transition from focused dialogue, expanding toward focused and disciplined diapraxis may culturally synergize with older, more religious philosophical paradigms and memes like “compassionate mindfulness” and “love.”

Buckminster Fuller understood and intended the dynamics and geometrics of “love” as analogically and ecologically equivalent to double-bound appositional flow of time-mutual awareness; synergy is dia-ergetic, mutually positively grateful and gravitational. Fuller’s synergy may be to Basic Positive Attendance as his comprehension is to compassionate mindfulness.

Red Sky At Night…

Once upon a nightime grim

all creatures of Earth dreamed

our Mother was not enough for everyone,

just “me.”

 

This collective nightmare thunderously rolled out

dark implications:

Earth is insufficient for our needs!

equity and integrity mere dormant values.

They must learn

or I may perish!

 

With such dark dreams

our primal twins,

Yang and Yin,

thrashed about in tangled sheets

each unaware of Other’s parallel flight

within this blue-black brackish night,

til Yang whacked Yin upside the head

completely unaware of how this would unfold.

So Yin hit back in fright

and soon this ruckus raised a violent alarm

among their household, neighbors, Tribe.

This outrage spread

sweeping across land and oceans

then back again to where it all began

until exhausted and dark bruised

all earthbound life fell down unconscious.

 

Within this loss of self-defense,

our open-handed peaceful nest,

dawn quietly crept toward abundant light

for all to feel and hear and touch

her sobbing singing warming beauty.

Scent of sun-baked cotton sheets

invites Yin’s eyes to uncover sight

of radiant light

abundantly growing nutrient wealth,

a yeasty compost sustaining interweaving life,

incarnating karmic response to each species’ evolving wants

and worthy hope.

 

As her awareness of Earth’s vast creation

lit her eyes of self-discovery

dawn’s diastasis filled hearts and minds

of all coincidental early risers.

We woke uncovered to discover immensity of life

and color swarming far beyond our needs,

nutrients absorbed for taste, and touch, and scent, and sound,

and sight, freely accessed to fit each synchronic need,

each longing to belong,

each Self fading into and out of Other,

sufficient place for each species’ time and space.

Last night’s primal screams of insufficiency replaced

by dawn’s ecology of karmic grace.

 

Yang woke alarmed at loss of cover.

His arms flew out to hide his fall

from dawn’s radical gift of generosity

and harmonic praxis.

And, in so doing, he hit Yin’s head.

This blow did smart

but seeded tears of redeemer healing.

Yin justly smiled and absorbed around

reminding Yang she is his graceful mentor

interpreting his dreams.

 

She sang with harmony enveloping unredeemed dissonance and disease,

hope for suffering and insanity’s dark lessons,

dawn’s well-lit vocation for us all

softly individuating within Earth’s optimizing life,

all brittle boundaries of mutual immunity

relaxing into resonance.

 

In this Transition Time from dark competing violence,

we remain cooperatively nested within Earth’s well-being,

so, dear Yang,

return toward redemptive rest,

regenerating memory seeds,

stringing songs dancing back,

back to stardust’s Ecologic Elders.

 

Fear and violence display synaptically sharp;

competitive “Loser!” economies;

love’s justice peace remains buoyant, resilient, robustly evolving

cooperating mutual winner revolution

away from red skies of mourning.

Infometric EcoSystems: Tegmark meets Fuller

I appreciated Tegmark’s growing awareness of scientific research as a cooperative enterprise. It reminds me of Gregori Perelman’s reasons for disappearing into the metaphysical universe of anonymity after rejecting the Clay Millennium Math Prize for what became the 0-soul theorem.

Going back a bit further into the history of metric systems as reality and as metaphysics, I was disappointed to not find any relationship between Tegmark’s double hypothesis and the earlier work of Buckminster Fuller’s “Synergetics,” Synergetics: Explorations in the Geometry of Thinking in turn rooted in Euler’s understanding of metric systems as not so much about numeric symbols and forms, but about function. Fuller recognized both physical and metaphysical universes sharing a (0)-Core Vector, or Vortex, in a verb-functional relationship, and potentially rational, Whole System Universal Intelligence. So, I was surprised that Tegmark modeled and analogized about a universal metric stability, unchanging structures, rather than potentially regenerative when fractally wave-functioned, within a 4-equidimensional Information System, following Einstein’s 4-prime dimensional equi-valent assumption.

In Fuller’s field, or stage, theory of synergetic regenerativity, information explicates, emerges and sustains, our Physical Universe, just as a “Dark” exformed-implicated reverse-trending magnetic-ergetic wave frequency implicates our bicameral Metaphysical Universe. As without, so within, but right-brain cognized as an unraveling negative-reversed-film-fading icon of sensory memory. While this remains a conjecture, there is an appealing aesthetic quality to its thermodynamic and magnetic wave trend balance, with information synergetically wrapping into a physical universe string, composed of intertwined solar system strings, composed of planetary threads, and this one, called Earth, more recently pushing out a double-elliptical binomially-balanced DNA self-regenerating string.

All these string-systems are teleologically imaged as unraveling in reverse-implicated temporal wave streams of exformation. Perception yielding understanding, yielding paradigm development of raveling/unraveling relationship conjectures across rhetorical/relational/culturally-bound specialized languages and gestalts, intertwining toward theories, and theories emerging into prime relationship universal principles of emergently co-prehensile [comprehensive coincidental] systems.

I am disappointed that Max Tegmark has apparently missed the geometrics and the Universal Intelligent design of Bucky Fuller. This conversation would be a more synergetic read, and a read of this synergy might emerge as a scientific cultural Trimtab–greatest effectiveness with least anomaly or dissonance. Perhaps, underlying the other laws of thermodynamic/magnetic waving and stringing about, is the proto-historical teleological assumption that the Prime Law, or First Systemetric Principle, is the Law of Thermodynamic Balance, where + = (-)(-), and +Polynomials in any n-dimension = (-)Polynomials OR spacetime geo/biometrics are intrinsically irrational and dissonant without sustainable systemic formation, function, wave frequencies, or bicameral/binary/binomial balance.

In a balanced and positive teleological formation trend, metric form is to function, as +/- function is to positive/informative and negative/exforming frequency trends. All of this within a (0)-soul vector(+P)/vortex(-P) smooth-structured self-regenerative double-elliptical torus. Imagine a self-perpetuating tree-information system in which informative nutrients develop richly nutritious seeds that fall down into the soil providing enthymematic nutrients for the tree’s magnetic-south trending (implicating tendrils reaching down into the fertile rich soil) root system. What is positive for the root system is also positive trending for the leaves and blossom development.

So I guess the greatest sustainable effect for this +/-(0)Prime Relationship infometric development system is to water the flowers of cooperative intent and mindfulness, while listening with wisdom to the weeds of competitive paradigmatic monocultures, information silos of specialization, hoarding fatty wealth deposits, and lack of intent to communicate back through the wisdom of our elders and colleagues for the Continuous Quality Improvement of future generations.

Tegmark seems better at balancing ethical values than he is at balancing metric values and functions. And, if I had to choose which is most important to learn about, I would choose his flowers over his weeds.

Positive Confluence Theorem for Optimizing Community Value Discernment

My work for the past couple of decades has veered away from group facilitation and detoured toward corporate grant and contract proposal writing, but I am struck by parallels between optimized proposal communication and community-building for wise discernment. Whether writing to public officials about policies and budgets, or to private sector philanthropists, the most effective way to open the doors of mutual communication are to show your constituency first that you understand, and share, our optimized outcome framework. If I start off advocating for a program, or a process, or a policy, or for money, then I am another “special interest lobbyist.” Not an effective way to start.
My still emerging theory about this dynamic is drawn from Positive Psychology and from Communication Theory.  Perhaps you are familiar with the Cognitive Dissonance Theorem: we tend to cognitively deflect messages that are dissonant to our salient gestalt. We just don’t build an iterative communication string off from messages that do not integrate with our existing gestalt very often. If we do start off dissonant and it works out, it is probably because of the appositional Positive Confluence Theorem [which doesn’t actually exist, except perhaps in Group Theory of Metric Structure–kind of a theoretical math thing] that we tend to consonantly resonate with messages that are intuitively synergetic with our Whole System value-gestalt. In Game Theory, this would be articulating the optimal and most inclusive Win-Win outcome accessible through compassionate, or appreciative, inquiry.
When the proposer of a choice-making process begins with where we most inclusively desire to Win-Win together, at the end of our rhetorical event [again, Communication Theory], then this establishes a broad, intentionally inclusive of both positive and negative deviance, framework. When the facilitator takes the additional step of proposing a rhetorical culture that values deviant inclusiveness and personal integrity, then this Win-Win Boundary Window begins to fill with the flow of a creative deep listening ecology. Individual monocultures in the room, or in the network, trend toward mutually nutrient-refining polycultures. We might think of this as the Permaculture Design’s Theory of Evolution. This requires design technology for iterative feedback loops that are accessible over time as  inclusively malleable communication strings. Positive-trending communication strings build communities of sustainable and inclusive discernment.
The theoretical limitation on Win-Win positive teleological culture-building, in anticipation of actually having the people in the room, or hooked up to each other on-line, is that procedural and normative values for mutual-flexibility [what Eastern cultures refer to as gratitude, and/or “namaste”] optimize when balanced with the value of personal integrity. We do not have an inclusive Win-Win positive framework for imagining long-term sustainable outcomes if we expect anyone to surrender integrity on behalf of flexibility, or flexibility on behalf of others’ integrity.
That last part, explicitly establishing a discernment culture that, in a sense, norms redemptive flexibility on behalf of others’ integrity typically, in Western cultures, falls prey to Cognitive Dissonance. We immediately get it that valuing mutual flexibility should not compromise personal integrity; we are fuzzier, with the possible exception of a feminist perspective, about the problem of valuing mutual integrity that compromises flexibility. If I yield to the Others’ need for personal integrity to the point that my flexibility is broken, then I have caved, lost. Flexibility will not tolerate the absence of mutual integrity, of establishing a relationship where we believe we have given at least as well as we have taken, and vice versa. The solution to both boundary issues may be to build an explicit discernment culture that holds the values of integrity-passion and flexibility-mindfulness in dynamic (diapraxis?) balance. This balance may be charted (I have not actually tried this), borrowing from Dynamic Facilitation, as a central vertical axis on each of four sheets:

The left side (bicameral-normative) is the Polynomial side; while the right side is the Non-Polynomial, or Reverse-Polynomial side, again, in information systems theory. The left side also emphasizes our collective integrity, while the right side emphasizes our collective flexibility to imagine what we might be together, but is not yet. In Taoism, the left side is the rhetorical event’s Yang trajectory, and the right side is this rhetorical event’s emergent Yin-balancing trajectory.
This emergent Positive Confluence Theorem predicts that when everyone can find themselves and each other within this holistically inclusive Win-Win Frame, we collectively begin noticing that the (0) Axials predict the most inclusively sustainable balance of both integrity and flexibility.
