On Democratic Compassion

A Unified Account of Causation, Constitution, Persistence, and Emergence

I explore the prospects of a causal explanation of constitution, persistence, and emergence. I will suggest that the idea that causation involves the mutual manifestation of disposition partners allows us to think of compound entities as mutual manifestations of dynamic interactions between the parts that constitute them, and their persistence as a result of that dynamic interaction. However, I think we need to modify the conception of mutual manifestations. The mutuality has been described in terms of the equal importance of so-called disposition partners—pairs of active and passive powers—while the interaction between the objects that wield such powers is characterised as unidirectional; one object acts while the other receives the influence of the action. This view is challenged by the fact that the natural sciences do not recognise any form of unidirectional action. Instead they depict all interactions as perfectly reciprocal, in the sense that whenever one object exerts an influence, the other simultaneously exerts a proportional influence of the same kind on the first, but in the opposite direction. I suggest that to accept the reciprocity of interactions only strengthens the viability of a causal account of constitution, persistence, and emergence.

Lone Warrior Rides Again

I wonder how much,
if any, distance
we might uncover
between The Lone Warrior
surrounded by weary white YesMen,
and The Naked Emperor
surrounded by timid white YesMen.

Both Warriors and Emperors
long for those they serve
by ruling over,
by disempowering healthy democratic voices
of critical dissent,
to wake up to their personal
omnipotent
privileged vision
and sacred words,
their supremely authoritative
and defensively authoritarian
win/lose knowledge

That competition to serve as YesMen
YesWomen
YesChildren
is the only appropriate role
for weak serfs;
those with too humble
poverty of spirit
and degenerative win/win nature,=
integrity
responsibility
compassion

Rather than daring
to look into our own Lone Emperor
richly naked eyes
of narcissistic disappointment.

Like all of us,
all Naked Warriors ever healthy long for
is to be appreciated
and played with
by peers
of resonant
compassionate integrity
caring
health wealthing.

The nakedly lonely
Warrior Emperor
of win/lose capitalistic politics
is not what EarthTribe had in mind
as reborn worshipers
cast our famous ballots
for EarthMother’s sacred
non-yeswoman birth

Positive Neurological Psychology

The problem with positive psychology,
said the good doctor,
it is too social science squishy,
not leftbrain prickly enough
for natural science pathologists
proctologists
urologists
cardiologists
and invasive neurologists.

I must concede
not prickly enough
indeed
said the polyvagal systems neurologist,
but sometimes premature complexity
looks like yet another chaos theory,
and sometimes spiritual prepowerment
feels like merely natural enlightenment
yet deja vu,
and sometimes too bilaterally sticky
predicts co-arising redundant dipolarity,

Neurological bilateral structures
of left meets right hemispheres
as West greets East
multicultural mediation
as ego hugs ecosystemic health-rooted trees

continue to evolve and emerge,

In Our Distance Circle

Once upon time’s center
grows two permaculturing farmers,
multicultural mediators
of Earth’s healthy polypathic remainder,

And, surrounding them,
seven elders
and their cheer leading mascot
of disabling foolery

Arriving each spring
in his wheeled chair
to witness
and sometimes loudly prophecy,
to entertain with his win/win intentions,
studying compassionate economics
and empowering politics
and enlightening neurological communion
v dissonance.

These aged and playful snowbirds
form a Wisdom Circle
conjoined by all farmers

Committed to Earth’s health care
in humble Vermont neighborhood places
spaces balancing Green Lives Matter races
into organically interdependent co-investments.

This Circle plans cooperative gardens,
MultiCulturally designing
and redesigning shared outdoor climate spaces
in and on now abandoned places
they purchase together
to divest of Green Commons neglect
and invest in a local cooperatively-held enterprise

With land and water and healthy air-based capital
where patient customers
become curious partners
contributing cash
but also labor,
beauty
and nutritional equity,
gracious investment
and/or benignly viral infestment.

This Green Wisdom Circle
plants fruit and nut trees,
vegetables EarthMothers insist they eat
and would like as much as fruit sweet
if they remain of right/left balancing mind.

They plant hemp,
and make baskets
and yoga mats
during dispersed winters
into the retiring diaspora
season for planning futures
of health restoring EarthJustice.

Circles of weavers
and knitters
turn lambs
into shorn sheep
into yarn
into blankets
socks
sweaters
skullcaps
winter masks
with ear muff handles.

Eventually
this Circle will reincarnate Wisdom
into Fire Circles for compline meditations
and story telling
into Singing Circles
of care medication
for young through old,
for those present living now,
and here dead
and yet to arrive
within all sacred regenerating species,

Egos circling within ecosystems,
interweaving networks
of TruthSeeker Circles
sharing win/win BeautyVisions,

Communion Farming Centers
within nonviolent communication systems
for engaging nutritional health,

Sacred ZeroCore recovery Allies,
not Lone Warriors,
within Earth’s fully present
compassionate
care giving as receiving.

Permaculture Designs

Multicultural Appreciative Design
begins with how we nutritionally feel,
nurtured or afflicted,
resonant and/or dissonant about a few issues,
spiritually healthy
and naturally wealthy,
growing out
into more robust global matters.

Polycultural outcome win/win strategies
follow principles of cooperative economy
and regenerative choice-making
to improve health care giving
and receiving
for each humane resident’s sacred habitat.

ZeroZone is first priority,
and then out to spacetime climate periphery.

Once we notice and plan past
Zone One,
Zone Two,
Zone Three,
and perhaps more,
depending on the scale of our restorative justice
healing ambitions,
we eventually conclude by observing
wind and light/shadow patterns,
climate trends
humid and dry atmospheres,
social good humored cultures
and nationalism’s bad humored
political
blaming and shaming
win/lose capital commodified monoculture.

ask Who Are You
at your healthiest
most nutritionally communicating
win/win eco-political best,
especially in cooperative relationship
with Zone One,
often defined as those spaces and times visited
and felt revisited
at least once per day
and night.

cooperative credit union,

edible and aesthetically pleasing boundaries,

cooperative humane residents,
responsible and responsive green new deal team,
restorative justice residential authorities,
each Black Lives Matter intentional community,

sharing a residential labor of love home,

Surrounds

multiculturally mediate
bilaterally resilient left hemisphere

of deductive thought
and inductive feeling,

positive co-relational wisdom
between EarthNature and co-arising HolySpirit,
national cultures and global climates.

I know denialists of good faith
good humor
and good healthy
multicultural extended democratic
green families,

And I know apparently wiser co-arising
dipolar both/and
nondualist wisdom seekers,

LeftBrain dominant
and RightBrain spiraling
ecologically and theologically evolving
20/20 nonviolent nondualist revolutions

Sometimes I need to hear
what straight white male dominant privilege
what racism
what degenerative ungreen anthro-supremacism
what xenophobia and yin-repression
what homophobia sounds like
and smells sour and acrid and decaying

Before I can fully appreciate,
invest in,
and investigate what regenerative EarthJustice
and multicultural communion
eco-womanist green resilient health care trends,
climate optimizing wealth
inclusively democratic cooperative reweaving
looks like

And feels more like
a robust organic garden

Than extracted
exhausted
deduced-reduced
irreparably severed
fracked
fornicating
capital-hoarding oil and gas fields

Or kleptocratic
partisan
military-industrial business parties

Where not wearing masks
has become a denialist symbol
of health disdain
as compared to financial profit worship,

Climate and culture of wealth-fundamentalists
and anti-SacredEarth evangelicals
and unpatriotic disowners
disloyal to Earth’s healthy democratic constitution.

Sometimes I need

When these tools
within my belt of personal knowledge
are invited to work cooperatively together
to achieve resilient
and resonant
multicultural wisdom,

Problems begin when I expect
to speak unilaterally
and to be listened to,
settling for sufficiency of my credentialed expertise,
my zero-zone experience,
my health-wealth advocacy,
rather than searching for shared wisdom

developmental
formative

ecological

Cooperative fame prefers
becoming known
for our active love of one another
exhaling out
to encompass all wisdom circles

More powerful
healthier

Hmmm.
OK,
so maybe this is the right place
but ahead of our time,

will not be invested upon abusing
and violating the unwise,
instead committed to restoring healthy egos
to cooperative leadership positions.

unconsciously transcendent,

Cooperative circles of residents
will return as root systems
of a sacred EarthTree
communicatively communioned,
and egosystems will again live
like nutritious extended families
of mammals
amid a forest of MotherTree icons
to and for climate health,
future seeds
and wombs
of Bodhisattva EarthMother.
Doing right,
they did not know
it was called justice.
Having gone violently wrong,
punishingly win/lose,
manna v mammon,
capitalistic top to bottom,
we have deeply learned
we are called to cooperative
healthy
democratic peace.
Kind to one another,
they did not know
that it was called humanity.
Having been unkind
egotistically against each polarized Other,
we have deeply and multiculturally learned
we are divinely called humane.
They were straight
and did not know
it was called faithfulness.
We will also be LGBTQ
and will not doubt
wealthy culture calls to octaves
of climates in full color.
They were proper,
and did not know
it was called honesty.
They were improperly Yang hemisphere imbalanced,
and will become witnesses
to compassion’s universally cooperative yintegrity.
They moved about
and called to one another for help,
and did not call it favor.
They will immigrate and emigrate
for climate restoration
and co-invest in each other for help,
and call this restoring Earth’s optimal justice.
Therefore,
their actions left no trace
and their events
left no record.
Therefore,
our future actions
and wise words
will leave no history conquering trace
and EarthTribe’s creative events
will leave no monoculturing
monotheistic
monopolistic
monosyllabic history,
no summery
drawing together past
meets present
prophetically greets future,
no re-membering conclusion,
no polling trends
for restoring EarthJustice health
as our prophetic bicameral measure
of cooperative vocational wealth.
