The Pleasure Principle

I’m not sure what Freud’s Pleasure Principle is all about,
or was about Health and Safety;

Whether it’s in
or out,

Whether hedonistic
and narcissistic
or the mundane
secular
capitalist
corporate product
of efficient sexual therapy
and heartless entertainments.

Whether the Principle is applicable
only to secular masters
for optimal “sacred rights” experience

Or also accessible to sacred slaves
as our secularized vocation
to provide for our nasty property owners,

Whether it is the primary purpose
of capitalism’s efficient,
if ruthlessly competitive,
corporate monocultural deformation
into post-climax apathy
and cynicism
and cruel and unusual punishments,

Yet, somehow,
as I merge into this stream
of organic fossils
still miraculously refueling,

I am sure this Pleasure Principle,
Beacon of Health and Safety Bliss,
Paradise Pursuit

Could only be entered
by those wise enough to recognize
it is cooperatively
globally
multiculturally owned,
managed interfaith communion,
interdependently experienced
and multiplied

Into raptures
of organic/cosmic
internal/external climates
of and for personal
political
economic
ecological
theological
neurological win/win Climax

Of spaciated bilateral Time
dynamically equals revolutionary bicameral Space
in NonZero-Sum
open-holistic yet still emergent
equipoise waves
of self/other co-conscious
co-passionate
co-empathic

Silent UnPrivileged Stories

When I was a Big Brother
for Jason,
an African-American 10 year old male,
we went into his apartment
so he could look around
for a long overdue library book.

As I accompanied him
from room to sparsely furnished room,
looking in nearly vacant closets,
cupboards,
drawers,
the only book we found
was a phone book,
looking silently neglected
much more than actively abused.

My first white male privileged
feelings about his Mom
had to do with blaming her
for probably not even feeling ashamed
for her irresponsible choices
while economically and politically administering
their bookless house
in this pre-WWW information age.

But, then I began asking questions.
What could Jason tell me
about his Mom’s life
when she was his age?

What were stories
familiar to her,
read
or retold
or experienced
and re-experienced,
therapeutic or traumatic?

Through this widening narrative moment
of multigenerational conjecture,
hypothesis,
questioning,
contemplating,

I also learned to question
what traumatic straight white male stories
are experienced by gay
and bisexual
and transsexual 10-year-olds,
regardless of racial identification,

And by 10-year-old girls,
perhaps regardless of racial identification,
or even further amplified
by being doubly,
and silently, outside
straight white patriarchal privilege.

I found myself
suddenly
tearfully
incapable of briefly imagining
much less deeply,
unflinchingly contemplating
the trauma
of growing up poor
and lesbian
and black or brown
or too red
or too yellow
without any books
or stories,
read
or retold
or experienced
about how her 10-year-old life will matter,
could be healthy, someday,
would ever be felt safe,
unless held shamefully silent,

Not appropriate material
for books
or retelling
or experiencing straight
white
male dominant stories,
economic
and political narratives
about retributive trauma
and not multicultural
restorative
democratically inclusive therapy.

On Democratic Compassion

A Unified Account of Causation, Constitution, Persistence, and Emergence

I explore the prospects of a causal explanation of constitution, persistence, and emergence. I will suggest that the idea that causation involves the mutual manifestation of disposition partners allows us to think of compound entities as mutual manifestations of dynamic interactions between the parts that constitute them, and their persistence as a result of that dynamic interaction. However, I think we need to modify the conception of mutual manifestations. The mutuality has been described in terms of the equal importance of so-called disposition partners—pairs of active and passive powers—while the interaction between the objects that wield such powers is characterised as unidirectional; one object acts while the other receives the influence of the action. This view is challenged by the fact that the natural sciences do not recognise any form of unidirectional action. Instead they depict all interactions as perfectly reciprocal, in the sense that whenever one object exerts an influence, the other simultaneously exerts a proportional influence of the same kind on the first, but in the opposite direction. I suggest that to accept the reciprocity of interactions only strengthens the viability of a causal account of constitution, persistence, and emergence.

Life forms interdependent

As regenerations continued this bodymind practice,
MotherEarth Attachment transposed
disassociated from healthy relationships
with all empowering
and enlightening creatures,
and was replaced by “greed”
and correlated “envy”

Greed rooted in fear
individual egocenters are not enough identity,
bodies carrying minds
with unspoken messages,
they did not have enough;

Envy co-arising anger
as greed invokes fear
about insufficient empowering time
and inadequately enlightening life.

They rediscovered envy co-arising anger
because we are born with win/win attachment promise
but discover our autonomous mortality
through death of lovers and enemies,
and all creatures in-between,
through suffering dreams
of those with timeless robust health
and greed
for immortal wisest wealth.

And this is how these NeoBuddhists
reconnected ancient metaphors
of Taoist non-zero sum roots
regenerative
win/win
ego/eco
left/right bicameral intelligence
Yanged and Yinning

And this is one way
we might both start
and conclude
each mindbody full day
free from greed
and envy
and patriarchal aversions.

but poverty does not feel like a synonym
