Santa’s Unseemly Red Parade

Santa arrived on our street yesterday
spewing considerable exhaust
while riding atop a parade of firetrucks and vans,
floodlit like a nativity display at night,
full sirens and blaring Christmas carols
competing for my Fetal Alcohol daughter’s rapt attention.

Santa rolls at stately parade pace,
while ever more impatiently
my troubled daughter jumps and eagerly awaits to pounce.

For me,
much too soon,
Santa spots her leaning out our screen door,
disembarks with great royal dignitary pace
to walk the long quest for prey
on our front porch.

As I feared,
after an unconvincing HoHoHo?
Without waiting for introductions,
Santa goes straight to his task at hand:
What do you want for Christmas, little girl?

I don’t know
Haven’t thought about it.
I’m sure it’s not a stinky and loud Santa parade.
Anyway, I’m still working on what I’m giving for Christmas.

That’s awesome.
I don’t hear a lot of that.

It’s not awesome!
It’s complicated!
My dad said I should only give gifts that by giving them
I will also receive gifts.

I’m not sure I have any gifts like that.
Last year you asked for an American Girl doll.

Yes, but this year I’m working on giving American Princess me,
instead of settling for your plastic dolls.

Won’t you need costuming and make-up
to become the All American princess?

You would think so,
but my dad says they don’t meet his gift-it-forward rule
to recycle and receive back.

So what do you think you’re going to get,

Czikszentmihalyi (C) wears academic labels of Positive Psychology,
interested in why and when and where

Dear TrumPublican Christmas Klan

When you’re on top already,
proclaiming King of the US Mountain

When you hope
and have faith
and love that you are among God’s caste-up elite
in stark contrast to those sinners you would remain forever separated from,
then your separatist position

Throughout 2016 I have been reading Rob Brezsny’s Pronoia

Singing Stevie’s Wonder

I remember,
in the early 60s,
our thirty mile drive
from our historic family farm,
in relentlessly White rural Michigan,
not counting the Mexican migrant workers
whom our Elders pointedly discarded

Singing
on the first shifty shopping trip to Thrifty Acres,
through vibrantly young Black
urban heated streets
of capital glancing Lansing.

Stevie Wonder and I
nearby
yet out casting far

Him singing
all Black city churches
ringing

And me queer pillaged
in all White rural churches
villaged

Stevie and me,
harmonic neighbor memory
in my privately humming heart

Yet never possible to publicly meet

Sacred Ecology of Democratic HealthCare

Reading Csikszentmihalyi again,
whose last name would be Csikszenti,
if Mihaly, his first name,
need not also bring up the rear of his family name,
which has nothing to do with anything that follows,
I am sure you are already relieved to know.

I continue wanting to add words in.
Occasionally substitute,
probably not because my choice would be more to his point,
but to mine,
which I hope is the same as his,
only slightly different,
but probably at least as redundant
as Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi,
but in a resonantly hopeful way.

“A person without [healthcare] skill
cannot recognize a [pathological] challenge;
but without confronting a challenge
one cannot realize [optimize?] one’s [thriving healthcare] skills.”

Mihaly continues to look for a better term than ‘spiritual’ skills,

My son, nearly twenty,
living at home while attending community college,
without prospects of healthier, more robust, alternatives,
believes it is now past time
for pollsters to cast aside their neutral professional agendas
and play a more positive role
in educating this co-invested international polity.

So, ask not just Who are you voting for?
but first, try
Of the nominees for President and Vice President,
and Governor and Senator,

of these United States
in which our grandchildren’s children
will see the day when one out of every four people
now living in coastal regions
