Contagious Health

In A Dog Lick Dog World

Are you feeling sad,
wanting your faith community,
democratic society,
to live more…
live more deeply…
live more widely…

Faithful to wealthy health, yes,
and I wonder if you are angry,
frustrated,
impatient,
wishing for more enthusiastic RESPECT,
more Aretha Franklin listened to
and more explicitly understood,
appreciated?

On my worst days,
anger.
Most days and nights,
impatient,
feeling stuck
in time moving too win/win opportunity slow,
and too win/lose risky fast.
On my best days,
impatient with capitalism
as monotheistically worshiped,
yet also multiculturally curious about remaining hope
for reconnecting personal health
with eco-political wealth.

I’m wondering if I could doubt
my own gastro-intestinal intelligence,
and what Earthly ego would I be
without bicameral ego/ecosystemic balance?

Now I’m confused.
Can you help me understand
how what you are wondering about
responds to my feelings
and win/win faithful needs,
of which I was just now speaking?

It seems like a more elite,
empowered leadership circle
in your faith community
may have trouble appreciating the fuel
investments
nutritional resources that listen quietly
and too tolerantly
too frustrated about win/lose communication patterns,
business as competitively usual
and leftbrain dominantly blind
to win/win nonviolent cooperative communion.

It feels like I am being cast
in the role of an ignored gadfly sphincter,
holding in all my compassion for healthy diversity
of theological ideas
and ecological experiences
digesting cerebrally
and intestinally,
thought
and felt nutrition
seeking healthier contagious outcomes.

I’m feeling amused
about wanting to imagine
what your perfect respected sphincter paradise,
our nonviolent win/win communicating;
what co-empathic inclusive faith community
would look like
and sound like
and smell like
and feel co-invested
and taste healthy
for you.

I feel encouraged
and supported
when you express active curiosity
about my feelings
and needs for healthy community,
safe sanctuary,
green asylum
from violent red-blooded
egocentric
anthropocentric predation.

I’m feeling resonance
yet struggling to actually connect
green restorative asylum
with concerns that “Man’s best friend.”
is a dogged species
no longer confident
our anemic human faith communities,
societies,
associations,
cooperatives,
remain Dog’s best friend.

Now there’s a species that respects sphincters!

What I Want

What I want,
probably need,
from people of compassionate
active
positive faith
in sacred covenants
in healthy energy democracies,
in cooperative co-empathic learning systems:

Integrity,
Impressive co-investments
rather than depressive divestment,
Integral cooperative ownership
more than autonomous competitions,
Intimately transparent management
stewardship
facilitation
multiculturally vulnerable mediation
among and within Earth’s holonic
holy
living webs of compassionate communication,
energy,
bicameral healthy/wealth

Intelligence, cognitive and affective,
deductive and inductive,
individual and contextual,
ego and eco,
left and right hemisphere nonduality
co-passion
co-invested balance in harmony
polypathic synergy
polyphonic
creolizing polycultural
polytheistic cooperative underlying values
for democratic global health
as EarthWealth

Is what I want,
intrinsically
intuitively need,
from people of compassionate
explicitly active
positive faith in sacred covenants,
in health-energy democracies,
in cooperative
co-empathic
deep learning communication systems.

NonProfit CoOperatism

An important truth of non-profit cooperatism,
as contrasted with for-profit corporatism,
is democratic wisdom
of co-investing capital and equity and interdependence,
giving from a healthy egalitarian heart
is also receiving a wealthier, more resilient, bilateral mind,
mind and body fullness,
ego- and eco-therapeutic resonance.

While true of all non-profit
non-competitive economic and democratic cultures,
this may be peculiarly enhanced by religious multicultures,
interfaith communions of active hope for local,
and thereby,
emerging global health of nutrition-cultured outcomes.

It also seems curious to me
that people with disabilities
and chronically homeless people,
people with significant mental and physical health concerns,
are disproportionately aware
of mystical correlations between internal
and external climate conditions,
chaotic and complex,
peaceful and resonant,
dissonant and confluent.

A balmy blue sky day
is more likely to evoke joy,
Just as cold,
damp
inside depression
political repression
social suppression
lack of economic impression
predict winter’s long hibernating darkness.

It may be
dying and dissonant faith communities,
and zealous triumphalistic fundamentalists
favoring red state nationalistic patriarchal
and homophobic
and anti-feminist fake-patriotism,
are enduring the dreg effects of theological apartheid,

Competitions in who has the most redeeming
right-wing economic effects
while ignoring green growing local democratic multicultural inclusion
hospitality
advocacy
healthy resilience
polycultural resonance.

Such competitors may need
Active participation of those with climatic disability experience,
Those who have recently been released from imprisoning cells,
Those who winter in overnight shelters
and summer outside under the stars,
Those torn apart by inside violence
looking longingly toward memories of outside childhood resonance,
Those trained by State machines to kill
as automatically and robotically as commanded
by the AntiEarth voice of a violent god.

And, such wounds
and lingering climate vulnerability
through trials of impoverished internal spirits
and externally hungry natures,
may need active hope and faith and compassion cultures
communities,
communions,
more than elitist and segregated
lukewarm inside win-or-lose capitalistic faith communities,
removed from worshiping outside blue sky memories,
cooperative climates of healthy resonant faith.

Social Justice Does Not Kill Nations

I heard from PrimeAryan DT
that socialism kills nations.

I thought it was fascist totalitarianism
that killed nations,
the lack of democratic social intelligence,
social investment,
non-violent communication,
restorative,
therapeutic
win/win social justice.

My grandparents,
at least on my mother’s side,
who seemed ancient and fragile to me,
often opined,
“When you lose your health,
you love everything.”

I don’t know if they literally meant everything:
your faith,
your active hope,
your love,
your integrity,
your egocentric voice,
your hate,
fear,
anger,
obsessive-compulsive wealth,
despair,
cynicism,
narcissism,
xenophobia.

Probably they meant only everything good,
all things social,
Beauty fading into inconsequential,
Truth into lack of significant meaning,
Life into absence of future purpose.

I was young and apparently immortal
and could not hear their wiser warning.

Now older,
I find I have little more to add
to health’s imperative
standard for resilient Wealth:

much older and more integral,
historically and multiculturally deeper
than money,
or even humanity;

older, even, than verbal communication
about healthy v pathological social-system experience.

So, why isn’t this same observation
first on the list of every political party’s platform,
every faith community’s regenerative mission statement?

If we lose our democratic win/win social health,
we’ve lost our greatest wealth.

If we optimize
our actively co-invested trust
in global interdependent health,
we regain our most resilient dreams
of cooperatively-owned wealth,
communal peace
served up with personal integrity.

“Make America Great Again”
whether triumphantly declared as “mission accomplished”
or somewhat more humble,
errs in dreaming way too small

When we could more robustly
courageously
compassionately choose
“Make Earth Healthy Again”

Which would, of course,
also make America wealthy
in all the democratic social positives,
and none of the aristocratic anti-social negatives

again?

I guess sometimes healthy restorative justice
is more like exploratory win/win polycultural justice,
more pro-social green peace meadows
than elitist
monocultural
grab and crab grass.

Reasoned Bicameral Balance

A rational frame of reference
for multicultural Taoism,
preferred by UniversalYang
and deferred with UnitarianYin,
regards experiences of systemic racism
and white straight male privilege
not only within each individual,
but within each community,
each faith community,
each ecopolitical energy-organizing sector
across this global EarthTribe.

This Taoistic reason/feeling approach
to big systemic issues
is more tipping point analytical,
probably inspired by polypathic bicameral Bucky Fuller,
And not so much monopolized by
micro-identity ego-afflicted elitism,
supremacy ideologies,
victimization debates
about how mine
is unfortunately bigger than yours.

Tao mindfulness
would prefer not to hear,
much less see or feel
Yang abusing
or even neglecting victimized Yin,
further Business As Usual
sometimes violent
Left hemisphere predations
or even verbal cultural misappropriations
depreciating healthy values
of cooperative Win/Win Right hemisphere resonance.

Taoists,
and other universal either/or egopatriarchal thinkers
and unitarian both/and ecofeminist feelers,
prefer the non-violent web
of secularYang with sacred Yintegrity,
bilaterally balanced
egopatriarchal competitive Type Yangs
fascinated with
and ceaselessly curious about
ecofeminist coopertive Type Yins,

Written dipolar co-arisingly
across the hemispheres of each heart,
each left with right non-violently winged
ego-out/eco-inside
bi-hemispheric universal Soul,
and written across the outdoor climate geospheres
of Earth,
more multiculturally inclusive
on this larger stage
of healthy democratic energy,
more resilient polyculturing empowerment.

Retiring Nomad River

I finally finished retiring four years ago,
a process that started in my mid-fifties
due to late adopting kids with special needs,
including needs for me to be home
to personally walk them on,
harness them in,
and wheel them back off, their diverse buses
and robotic ramped vans.

During those final weeks of quasi-gainful employment
I amped up my search for a new home
preferably in New London, CT,
because I had visited, and liked, All Souls UU;

But, possibly in Norwich,
where I have some family,
not necessarily white like me,
or someplace more rural
in-between.

Long story short,
which is not like tangential me,
I ended up
or started out,
depending on where this story starts for you
and me
on the south end of Norwich,
just north of the old State Hospital,
seeking healthy justice
above a steep and brooding bank
down to the troubled Thames River.

From here
it is difficult not to notice
how traffic flows
between Norwich and New London.

But, in the case of All Souls UU
and UU Norwich,
not so much,
maybe not enough.

When I lived in the Hartford area
I joyfully attended the Unitarian Society of Hartford,
a fairly large multicultural tent
filled with reviving gospel music.

So, when looking for a retirement destination,
I traveled on-line to uua.org
to see what might be available
in addition to All Souls New London
and found a small cell,
apparently renters quasi-homeless,
Norwich UU,
or UU Norwich,
or maybe both
I hope.

I pictured no choir,
no active faith formation options
for people of all ages
and figured,
probably not right for me.

Long story maybe a little bit short,
it took me over four years
to make my first Norwich UU visit,
recently.

I found somewhat fewer of us
than the number of Norwich residents
on the All Souls Members and ActiveAllies list.

My background is in cooperative economic
and affordable housing development.

With an MDiv from a Catholic seminary
and a double-Master’s in Public Administration
and Community Development
from Southern Illinois,
Carbondale,
where Bucky Fuller once taught
Synergetics,

It feels awkward
to invest in All Souls together
where all souls are welcome,
by commuting back and forth alone in my blue steel truck,
while there is clearly plenty of room
and welcome
available right in my new home town,
where I now know no one except family,
over four years later.

This is a schizophrenic discomfort
for climate activist
and cooperative local community investor
me.

Back in my early adoption years,
I worked in the Office of Urban Affairs,
New Haven,
for the Archdiocese of Hartford,
where I listened to a great deal of turmoil
about aging and poor urban parishes
thinking about how to join forces
to survive
while sharing a clergy ministry team.

So, I wonder
How would it feel to UU Norwich survivors,
activists,
communicants,
healthy and smart registrants to vote local
while thinking global,
to carpool to All Souls on Sunday mornings,
to sit together
in chairs hooked to-gather,
perhaps joined by us other emigrant immigrant
Norwich residents already All Souls affiliated,

To also share a discussion circle
after the chalice light is extinguished
to check in with each other over coffee,
maybe herbal tea,
to reflect on what we heard
and sang
and sometimes endured, today,

To ponder aloud how this speaks
and does not speak
why
and how
and when we arrive together
back in Norwich,
having solved
and resolved to absolve
most of the Thames River watershed issues
rolling back and forth
and swelling in-between
this tidal river’s ups and downs.

Perhaps some of us
or even all of us
would also like to form a Sanctuary Circle
meeting during the week.

Maybe have lunch together,
share our Norwich organizing
and multicultural explorations together,
contribute to All Souls Green Sanctuary
and GRACE anti-racism projects,
restore justice to replace retributive injustice,
speak power with truth,
live together, not apart,
more resiliently.

Perhaps it is possible
to grow more robust
as a distinguished part
of All Souls,
combine resources,
economize cooperatively,
ecologize more holistically
and theologize more healthily
without losing Norwich UU tradition,
focus
mission,
effective
resonance,
green and black and brown and rainbow
resilience.

As for me,
I’m still looking at New London
real estate listings
while troubled about abandoning
a nomad’s home
in which I never let myself fully invest

While dreaming of emigrating further south
downriver toward climatically rising water levels
while still in my first five carbon-burning years
of retiring immigration.

More Questions

Why is music
more emotionally important than rhetoric?

Why is grace-full dance
healthier than verbal prance?

So many questions
more important than private answers…

I question why
my faith community
provides sanctuary to legally-challenged immigrants
24/7,

And yet, has not actively opened our sanctuary
to local homeless and health-challenged emigrants from outside places
on Sunday mornings, nine to noon,
and during Wednesday evening choir practice,
and during Tuesday evening Green Sanctuary meetings
about Earth justice
and internal/external environmental-contextual fragility,
and other health challenges
for building multicultural well-being,
faith,
active hope

Resonant throughout this local place
and resilient throughout our global pace
monocultural race
of eco-theological climate space
and nurturing time

Sung in transparent octaves of music
more intuitively significant than rhetorical debate;
one heard cooperatively
and the other spoken to win ego-support
and loss to ecopolitical competitors,

Which is not criminal behavior
yet perhaps worthy of impeachment
and excommunication
for anti-communion behavior.
