Overly familiar with her defiance
patterns of fetal alcohol confusion,
neuro-systemic habits of resistance,
I, the consummate ecofeminist,
was sure my daughter felt
I was shutting wounded Ivy out
when she wanted me
to enter her toxic on-line
stream of Sponge Bob consciousness
When she came to me,
in self-care mode,
while I was meditating
reading
reflecting
writing
breathing deeply in,
then out
One gasp for hope
at a new pandemic time,
searching for one hour
without unmitigated despair
at this unhealthy contagion time,
one calming day at a time,
one therapeutic glimpse at a week,
one unimaginable month,
one lifetime of a year,
One retiring stage,
one quickly ancient life,
one emerging seamless love
at this time.
In exasperation
with her insistent interruption
in my sacred space,
I exclaimed
“Ivy, I can’t take care of you
if you won’t let me
take care of me!”
To which she replied,
“Can I sit here
quietly
next to you?”
I was skeptical,
cynical about cooperative deep breathing
with screaming screen-time Ivy,
but “You may,
if you can”
And so she did
sit next to me
at the head of my bed
where her paraplegic brother slept
post-seizure,
She leaned her black curled head
against my old white man shoulder
peacefully
breathing side by side
And that is how
we resiliently entered
into this passing
evolving
rising and falling,
erupting and disrupting pandemic
of Earth’s green
and sacred
virally emergent
health care.
Probably few of us
have capacity
to see ourselves
as both Angel
and Demon.
Many of us
have had the experience
of demonizing
and punishing ourselves
for sins of the past
extending into our present
festering
unresolved trauma.
Hopefully many of us
have also had the experience
of forgiveness
and saving ourselves
from sins of the future
because someone shared with us,
in some effective way,
that nothing
is always your autonomous fault
If only because
no organic creature,
anthro or otherwise,
is born
or can survive
radically autonomous
from non-ego centers.
Personal identity
follows interpersonal
ecosystemic individuation
developmentally
causally
and effectively.
I hear healing opportunity
in this responsible
yet not solely responsible
both/and way of consciousness
As well as traumatizing risk
of denial,
too cheap self forgiveness,

A woman’s reluctant decision

her lack of experience

most wealthy bell

In-between silent demons
we abhor
and sacred angels
we redemptively adore.
Tempting to offer an anthropological history class
and call it Earth History,
beginning with our current
messy
riled up
LeftBrain emergently dominating
our fracturing Anthropocene.
While trust seems true
and wise
when our public educational system
holds up humanism
and capitalism
as, together, supportive
of our underlying survival
of the fittest evolutionary orthodoxy,

to pay war and military,

consumptive capitalist exploitation,
and weapons development and production
taxes
and yet retain meaningful constitutional protection
for spiritual freedom of co-passionate conscience
becomes left brain cognitively complex,
if not downright chaotic.
Whether faith-based communities
can continue to be tax-exempt
feels as clear as democratic
multiculturally celebrated
separation of nonviolent religious expression
and nation-state defensive affiliation
Why a minute of silent
compassion-focused spiritual/mental experience
feels both constitutionally appropriate
and healthy democracy useful
for opening self/other governance meetings,
team huddles,
graduations and commencements
from and into great
and even smaller public transitional events,
bolstering spiritual/mental health resilience
of shared trust consciousness.
Whether inclusive multicultural
non-supremacist religious symbols,
such as a PeaceDove,
a Chalice of communal hope,
a messianic Manger scene,
and a Menorah,
can be installed in public spaces
to evoke spiritual/mental health experiences
and not toxic memories
of homophobic,
racist,
sexist victimization,
trauma,

may depend on how inclusive

our own childhood

Whether spiritual/mental health education systems

may depend on whether we believe

Whether faith-based non-profits
can apply on equal egalitarian footing
with secular corporate privileged organizations

governing grants
to increase spiritual/mental health experiences,
may depend on whether we are remembering
good faith peak experiences

fear of losing out
bullying experiences.
Whether healthy win/win
faith-based communities
and individuals can,
and even must,
advocate for public policies,
including integral health care,
that are consistent with their membership’s
most personal spiritual/mental health experience,
or not so much
These issues
and peak spiritual experience concerns
about loss of healthy wealth
also pertain to freedom
of nonviolent communication speech.
Compassionate communication,
win/win freedom
of resonant
primal inter-relationship,
is the fundamental healthy democracy
trust experience
on which all other integral rights
to spiritual/mental health
are rooted,
wombed,
incubated,
rewoven,
morphed,
regenerated.
On the other hand,
if we begin with different,
more dualistic
and monotheistic assumptions
about this relationship between synergetic religious
and peak spiritual/mental experience
of everyday sacred connection,
then our constitutional conclusions
may vehemently
and irreconcilably
and dogmatically
differ.
They are friends,
I imagine,
Or perhaps unfamiliar
yet curious
neighbors.
These two seem to like
